My office just relocated to Beach Street in the city but I’ve been referring to it as Beat Street which the title of the movie from the 80’s that actually is one of the most unappreciated films of all time, let alone the narrow confines of the &0’s. And don’t sleep on Beat Street 2, Electric Boogaloo.

and that movie, Heathers, may also be the answer to this question.
Either Heathers, Just one of the Guys, or Youngblood
3 goood choices. I was just thinking about Youngblood. It's never on, it never gets mentioned with sports movies. But, it was good. Keanu Reeves as the goalie!
Splash
The Untouchables
The Princess Bride
Bull Durham
Local Hero
Raiders of the Lost Ark
Die Hard
Trading Places
A Christmas Story
Back to the Future
Caddyshack
Wrath of Khan
Blood Simple
Spinal Tap
The Right Stuff
Raging Bull
Jesus Phil- the thread is about underrated movies Â
not only because it so accurately detailed what life as a high school teenager was like back then, but to see all of the current day stars who got their break in that movie.
Honorable mention for me..
Easy Money
The Burbs
My Bodyguard
The Evil Dead
three really good ones. And 1980 film Breaker Morant is in my top five movies of all time. Brilliant acting in a true story set during the Boer War. If you haven’t seen it, and most people haven’t, I can’t recommend it enough.
You're fuckin' right I'm Plettschner! Arnold Plettschner!
Three times decorated in two world wars! I was killing
people while you were still swimming around in your father's balls! You little scumbag! I worked five years in a slaughterhouse, and ten years as a prison guard in Attica!
Essentially, another Chuck Norris/Steve James macho flick, but a good one bc the bad guy was a really scary killer hiding in an old theater, Phantom of the Opera style
It's got Modine and Fiorentino before they became stars.
It's got two of the more underrated sports scenes (the Pele/3 min. speech and Shute walking up the bleachers with the log), and a great soundtrack led by Journey and a cameo from Madonna.
Complete 80s movie.
Th actress who was the lead in Just One Of The Guys Â
With Julia Roberts. And I have actually ate at this pizza place in Mystic, Connecticut and it was great.
Holy shit, I've never actually heard anyone claim that pizza was even edible let alone great. I'm especially shocked someone with a Yalebowl handle, presumably from New Haven, would say it.
threads with the word underrated in it going forward. Maybe a ban, like with political threads.
I feel like most people consider something underrated if either: most critics don't like it, but most audiences do or many people just didn't see it due to limited distribution.
half this thread is classics.
Like when I see Citizen Kane and the Godfather on the most underrated movies of all time thread. Those are the exact opposite of underrated.
Or I could just care less about these threads and I'm not sure any of you really want that.

Good call. Couldn’t be made today with Joel playing a Korean man but a fun movie. Always wanted the sequel. Would have been great if the foe was a rogue trainee.
See, an ordinary person spends his life getting out of tense situations. A repo man spends his life getting INTO tense situations.
You ever read this? Diuretix, The Science of Matter Over Mind? That book'll change your life. I found it in the back of a Maserati in Beverly Hills....know what I mean?
Some nice friends you got there, Otto.
-Thanks....I made em myself!
When they peel back the bedsheets and it’s not the boy but a slimy breathing humanoid, it gave me hella creeps. Still does.
Last Starfighter also had a notably strong theme song and soundtrack. Anyone who doesn’t tear up a little when Alex and Maggie head for the stars in the end probably just doesn’t have a heart.
1. 48 Hours
2. Beverly Hill Cop
3. At Close Range
4. Big Trouble in Little China
5. First Blood
6. The Karate Kid
7. Rvenege of the Nerds
8. Stand By Me
9. Young Guns
starring a young Matthew Modine and Nicholas Cage; directed by Alan Parker, who also directed Mississippi Burning and The Commitments.
Birdy is a weird fun movie with an excellent sound track from Peter Gabriel and terrific cinematography. But most of all, it has one of the best endings to a film you'll ever see. I highly recommend it.

Very good call! Maurice. But Fred Savage's voice makes me want to kill things
Thats not underrated. Thats just a shitty movie. Lol.
Overboard on the other hand.
Seriously, I thought Bull Hurley could beat up Ivan Drago. But that movie was pretty shitty compared to Croc Dundee
......mmmmmmm....not MOST underrated IMHO

Either Heathers, Just one of the Guys, or Youngblood
No wait, you're probably saying, "Never heard of it." Exactly.
Sho Nuff!!!
Ruthless People
Down and Out in Beverly Hills

If we’re going Fiorentino films from the 80’s, I’m selecting Vision Quest...
I’ll toss in Repo Man and Real Genius.
I’ll toss in Repo Man and Real Genius.
Really, anything with William Zabka playing the bad guy
Just One of the Guys
Karate Kid
Back to School
European Vacation
Actually the last 3 weren’t underrated, just awesome

In the original spirit of the thread I nominate this fucking cinematic masterpiece:
St. Elmo's Fire
Better Off Dead
Oh and honorable mention to a couple of movies with the Corey's:
Lost Boys
License to Drive
"The life of a repo man is always intense." Such a great movie.
Would add: Vacation, Christmas Vacation, and Back to the Future
Weird Science
RoboCop
Honorable mention for me..
Easy Money
The Burbs
My Bodyguard
The Evil Dead
yeah loved Repo Man. Forgot that one. I have it on a VHS tape... but no VCR to play it
The dirk bike kid
Hollywood knights
Seems like old times

Explorer's was fantastic.
By the way how did you start this thread without posting a pick of Linda Kozlowski?
Here is a more recent picture. Please feel free to add your favorite.
Only one reference so far. All you need to know about BBI movie critics.
The Hidden
Love this movie. Poor man’s American Graffiti though.

Bbi'ers also get triggered by the term JAG XD
The Hidden
weird, I always think of Night of the Comet as a comedy but it is definitely a horror movie as well.
It's a free rental on Roku right now. It's an "80's movie" that was shot in 2014.
I still can't decide if it's the worst movie I've ever seen. But I couldn't stop watching it. So bad, it was almost good.
+1.
that was a good movie
Such a quotable movie. Love it. “Mama, can I go play in the basement with Yorku?’
When they peel back the bedsheets and it’s not the boy but a slimy breathing humanoid, it gave me hella creeps. Still does.
Good call. Couldn’t be made today with Joel playing a Korean man but a fun movie. Always wanted the sequel. Would have been great if the foe was a rogue trainee.
Also, great end credits sequence.
Great Outdoors - Land of 1000 Dances - ( New Window )
I named my 2nd bike "The Thunder Road."
All 80’s movies about kids on bikes exploring things are the best movies. Goonies principal among them. Explorers up there too.
Monty: Yeah, well you were the inspiration for twin beds.
Weird Science
RoboCop
Beat me to it on WWS. Recommend it to friends all the time. Loved to hate that a-hole Vick!
Also, Cloak & Dagger and Nothing But Trouble. Maybe even Labyrinth.
My original list included White Water Summer and Summer Rental, but those were taken already.
The River Rat (Trailer) - ( New Window )

Even for a troll, you're a fucking idiot. That was made in 1977.
Another Michael Pare gem..."Streets of Fire"
Great call, it was an excellent sequel. Well, technically it was a prequel, but nevertheless.
