OBJ and Harry Carson...

M.S. : 10/17/2018 9:21 am
...while I would NEVER call Harry Carson a diva drama queen, there was a time (if memory serves me right) when he got so sick and tired of lousy football that he threatened to leave the Giants and either join some sort of special commando force or some other crazy idea like that.

Of course it never happened, but I mention this because a lot of crazy stuff happens when a team sucks, driving players to do and say stupid shit.

Eventually, the Giants straightened things out and Harry Carson put away his crazy thoughts/statements, and hopefully the same will transpire for out talented WR.

But that requires winning, which requires talent, which requires patience. Does OBJ have any?
It's been four years of losing

4 years of losing?
Chris684 : 10/17/2018 9:26 am : link
This was a playoff team 2 short years ago.

Can we stop painting the picture of Beckham is a victim of losing?

He's also the biggest reason we lost the last playoff game so there's that too.
May have been a playoff appearance but,
Giant John : 10/17/2018 9:30 am : link
Was not a playoff performance.
The Giants went 17 years w/o a playoff appearance. 17 years!
map7711 : 10/17/2018 9:56 am : link
Now it’s different now then it was back then in regards to making the playoffs but come on. 17 years in a row! There is zero comparison between that disaster to what we are going through now. And it’s much easier to turn around a team now then it was then with free agency etc. So I think it’s a bit of an over reaction.

Hmmm... I seem to remember the defense playing pretty well that year. The team never scored 30 points.
Mirage or not the Giants went to the playoffs in 2016

just 2 years ago. I think we are all pissed off and yes this team is not great, but there is talent on this team. I bet most of us could point out the positions that need upgrading to make this a competitive team. I am seeing at least 7 positions that could use an upgrade. That could be done next season.

So, while 1-5 is horrible and I can't stand it, the reality is there are only 18 players from last years team on this current roster. A whole new coaching staff, new offensive system, new defensive system and a entirely new Offensive line. Lots of moving parts. I believe the hope was a competitive team, maybe play offs but I am not sure we were ever going to be a contender.

Either way, OBJ needs to start focusing on the " ny " on the side of his helmet and less on the " Beckham Jr. " on the back of his jersey. Make some plays.
People have short memories

And need a villain or face to pin the blame to.

Beckham is the second to last thing that is causing this team to lose every week. He’s a maniac, a pain at times and immature— he needs to manage his emotions when times are down but he’s not the problem with this team.

The nice guys on this team are the problem. Some of the incumbents are way too comfortable with losing or living to fight another day.
If the Giants were winning

Beckham s antics would not be nearly as big a story

The biggest problem with this team is they don't win, not OBJ, unless of course you believe his behavuyiw the reason for the losing

I would think even his biggest distractors, don t believe that

could have played in front of Harry Carson if the elder Mara didnt trade the pick for Craig Morton. Another one of the Mara family hits that kept and keep on coming.
Even though they made the playoffs only two years ago
NoPeanutz : 10/17/2018 12:11 pm : link
Mac's offense was dismal. One of the worst in the league if not the worst especially in the second half. The defense was winning all those games and scoring points, literally doing the offense's job for them.
In no way am I saying this time frame as a Giants fan
Beezer : 10/17/2018 12:21 pm : link
is any fun. But having grown up watching a very bad team from approximately 1974 on, that covered my childhood fan years and well into college. When the 86 team happened, coupled with an almost mirror image of being a Mets fan from that year forward, it was an amazing feeling.

This era, right now, is filled with all sorts of bullshit and annoying crap. But I don't feel all that bad for these millionaires, or young fans who have had some really good football to start their fan lives. My son is a perfect example - First year he really paid attention was 2007. Just a few years later, AGAIN he gets a Super Bowl win ... and he was 13 years old! Crazy.

When I was 13 the Giants had won a combined 10 games in my first 3 seasons as a fan, including seasons with 2 and 3 wins. That was my starter!

In Norm MacDonald fashion, I kinda rambled there and maybe even lost the point, but holy hell, this is nothing, people!

Yep.

Like I said in another thread - I'd rather have the lunatic who can't stand losing than the nice, quiet fellas who just collect their paycheck, go home, and are content with losing.

Beckham needs to grow the fuck up already, but he goes all out on the football field and there's no quit in him. It'd be nice to see more of that from some other players. Particularly on the other side of the ball.

Defense for sure played well.

If you take him off that offense they don’t make the playoffs. Thats why i said he was the biggest reason - should have said most important player.

tried to join the USFL, losing is tough on everyone. Most of these guys have never lost more that 2 or 3 games in a season in both HS and college. Landon Collins probably did not lose 5 games in his entire college career.
OBJ
Bluesbreaker : 10/17/2018 2:24 pm : link
I think he is tied for 82 in yards per catch ...
Barkley is not far behind him .
This team has a ton of problems
Mike from Ohio : 10/17/2018 2:25 pm : link
including OBJ's immaturity, but getting rid of him is not the answer. We have a coach and it's his job to get to get keep the players in line. Coughlin wasn't interested in doing it and McAdoo was incapable of doing it. He is one of the few talents on a roster sorely lacking talent.

High character guys are wonderful, but this is the NFL and there are going to be eccentric, egotistical guys in every locker room. You get rid of them when they are average or below average talents, and you find a way to manage them when they are elite talents. If that job was easy anyone could do it.
