Yeah yeah, it was against the Hawks.. who might be the worst team in the league. But this Knicks team there isn't the notion that they SHOULD be able to beat anyone. So it was nice to see an impressive win that will go along nicely with building up the teams confidence.
Couple notes:
-Biggest thing I noticed was the defensive intensity that hasn't been around in years. A lot of energy of guys flying around and actually closing out on 3's. Yeah there were some lapses, but the Knicks were impressive on D.
-Fizdale is breath of fresh air and looks to be the right pick for this team
-The Knicks shot 31 threes. Refreshing to see them adapt to modern NBA basketball
-49 points in the second quarter, a Knicks franchise record
-Michigan Men had a good game. Tim Hardaway Jr is your true definition of a Dr Jeckyll and Hyde player. He was wild and off at the very beginning. Then he DRIVES, makes a basket and goes off from there. Fiz should be coaching him to drive at every opportunity to help set up his rhythm. Can't stand his heat checks shot selection at times
-Kanter with a quiet double-double. He really is solid and can expect this from him night in and night out.
-Baker got 27 minutes. Dotson didn't even see the floor. I don't know why.
The Rookies
-Knox.. I was in the minority with not wanting him to start. I still feel that way. I think the Summer League really gave this kid big expectations he's not ready for yet. He's 19. Body language is still troubling. He needs to find ways to get involved without scoring. I think right now the NBA is a little too fast for him. I'm not worried about him though. Just bring him a long throughout the year.
-Robinson got a put back before re-aggravating his ankle. Didn't play after that. No word on him.
-Alonzo Trier:
First half? Or first quarter? Knicks went off in the second quarter
We scored 72 points. God damn you are dumb sometimes.
Hopefully the intensity on defense will continue.
-I've been team Trier since day one and continue to be so. EVERYONE raves about how hard he's working. Just hope that continues once his role is settled. It means little but he doesn't sound like a knucklehead in interviews despite his rep.
-Kevin Knox is going to be more than fine but he sure looks like a guy who back in the "old days" would be a 2-3 year guy in school and come into the league ready to be very good
-Love Fizdale
“Allonzo Trier’s Dunk. I didn’t mean to celebrate, it was not good class on my part, but wow man, I’m still a fan of the game. And sometimes things happen in a game and you just go WHOA”
I liked the Baker/Trier/Mario/Knox/Vonleh lineup. That really was position-less interchangeable basketball. (Baker still stinks though.)
Kemba 41 and 4
Miles Bridges was invisible. 15 minutes 1 rebound 1 point
Jarrett Allen 17, 10 and 4 blocks (including the Blake Killer everyone has seen), kid can play
LeVert 27 and 4
Drummond 24 and 20
Jaren Jackson Jr. 10 points, 5 rebounds 1 assist 1 block 3 steals
Sabonis 14, 15 and 2
Gordon 26 and 16
Bamba 13, 7 and 2, 6-8 from the field
Osman 17 points, 10 boards 4 assists 2 steals
Sexton 9 and 3 (2-7)
Kawhi 24 and 12
Mirotic 30 and 10
Brow 32, 16, 8 assists, 3 steals, 3 blocks... damn
Payton 10, 10 and 10
Randle 25, 8 and 3 (Pelicans might really surprise this year, I like that team as a sleeper)
Melo... -20, yikes
DeRozan 28, 4 and 4
Gobert 19, 15 and 3
Mitchell 24, 3, 2, 2 (As usual I like the Jazz and Quin Snyder)
WCS 24, 7, 4, 1, 2
Fox 21, 4, 7, 3
Bagley 6 and 5 in 12 minutes
Labissiere DNP-CD... he's a guy I'd keep my eye on as a buy/low "lolKings" target. Only 22.
Doncic 10, 8 and 4.... Hawks will regret this one
DSJ 13, 2 and 5 (6-19)
Booker 35, 4 and 7
Josh Jackson 18, 2 and 3
Bender DNPCD, looks like a total bust but another guy maybe you look at as a reclamation... I think he just sucks but who knows?
SGA 11, 2 and 4
Bagley 12 minutes.... LOLKINGS
Embiid better up his game because Ayton has the potential to be best big in league sooner rather than later.

dep, I did. Thanks.
...34 wins.

The Hawks are a truly awful team. I'm not crapping on the Knicks but that roster is really, really bad. The Knicks are going to really struggle this year. The Hawks happen to be awful.

THJ is always gonna be a spotty and inconsistent shooter with bad defense. But he's at his best when he's running the break and so he actually fits pretty well with what Fizdale wants them to do.
Your point about Knox is spot on, IMO. You can see it in the difference between him and Trier. Trier is three years older at 22 with a lot more college experience. He just has a really good feel for what he does well offensively. Knox does not have that yet. He's a smart and hard working kid and will get there. I look forward to 22 year old Kevin Knox and where he might be then.

Quarter. Sorry.
- Really impressed with Vonleh and Trier. Vonleh sure looks the part and Trier can really play.
- This will be a fun year. If you see Knox develop along with Trier and Mitch that’s the key. And if they can hit on one of the Vonleh/ Mario “projects” , this year is a huge success.
- They finally have some athleticism. Great to watch a team run and D up.
- Still disappointed in Franks offense. Just don’t see much game on that end.
The Hawks are going to struggle to win 20 games. Do they have one player who would start on another NBA team? I just don’t see it with Young. Thankfully he’s a not a Knick.
I said a couplenof weeks ago he ciuld be the guy who turns it around..
it seemed like everytimr hardaway started to chuck fizdale pulled him to the side and said attack..
burke was in control and picked his spots..
frank is thr anchor defensively..
kanter good on both ends
2. Was nice to see the young guys get serious burn. THJR and Kanter were awesome.
3. Kanter's contract is unfortunate. He's such a good fit, both on and off the court for this team. He's very important for the development of these kids.
4. Atlanta sucks.
5. It's still gonna be a loooong season. Young kids will tire, guys will get banged up and we won't be playing ATL every night.
6. I think Ron Baker, while overpaid, will have a role in the NBA long term.
7. Love Fizdale.
8. Fizdale, after the game, pointed out that Ntilikina is already an elite defender and was singing his praises. We forget that he was drafted as a 3 year project. He's only gonna get better.

i said that lasg night, how different the rebuild would feel with hornacek

They have plenty of time to worry about Trier's spot.
Also, THJR has a bunch of games last night and we might find a taker.
this isnt based off last night

we need to get rid of THJr. What a disaster of a player.

So I’d love to hear your opinion of Houston basically picking up Melo in exchange for Ariza
Meaning they didn’t resign Ariza
I feel this will severely backfire in Houston’s face
Of course you know I’m not a Melo supporter

Yep, of course not. But the occasional great game from a thoroughly mediocre player is a dangerous thing. Kanter is similarly risky in this regard.
Meanwhile, heaven help us if Kanter ever gets hurt. Who starts at Center then? Vonleh is not tall enough... Luke Kornet??? We still have a desperate need for a guy like KOQ or even the Beaser.
Knox looked like a nervous teenager making his NBA debut. Still flashed some nice skills.
I think as long as GS stays healthy, they may sweep a few series into the finals.
i think they implode, lost their 2 best defenders and harden, paul and melo all iso
It's actually impressive how the Knicks have assembled so many guys who have a chance to go off offensively. THjr, Burke, Trier, Mario, Knox, etc. They are all streaky so far, but if two or three go off per game we may be surprised at the outcome.
I often defended Hornacek last year claiming that it was more of a lack of talent than poor coaching. While I still believe that to a degree, I do have to say that the hustle and style that Fizdale has inspired so far from this game and the preseason is very fun to watch.
jarret allen also hit 2 corner 3s--- guy has the goods
melo looked awful- harden looked angry on the court-
nuggets are deep
Fox looked excellent for sactown
Another example of Thibs holding a player back.
Doncic had an off night shooting, but he definitely flashes as a passer and a play maker. Dennis Smith on the other hand....I think he is one of those guys that even though he may have nights that look good on the highlight reel and "on paper," is going to be an overall negative when it comes to winning basketball games. He is atrocious defensively and seems like a me first player on offense.
-The Kings are a complete joke. I can't believe either Philly or Boston is getting their pick this year. If the Knicks want to trade THJ, thats the team that should be targeted. He would actually fit their needs and they have cap space and expirings.
- Pretty excited about Friday night. Would love to seem them beat the Culture Nets.
I don't even particularly love Kanter but Robinson would be eaten alive playing 30 minutes per night right now. Robinson has impressive talent no doubt.
so your welcome again for making culture great again.
now if only the football team....
the only thing robinsonbnb is better at is shot blocking...
Knox looked like a nervous teenager making his NBA debut. Still flashed some nice skills.
Mudiay for Giles
He definitely seems to be a lot more confident, which is good to see. Too many times last year he looked hesitant and unsure. He would almost always pass on an open jumpshot or even an easy layup.

That's pretty hard to do.

lol
We are gonna blow em out. 82 and 0 baby!
I’m not convinced that young won’t be a special player. Matter of fact I think he will be damn good before all is said n done. He’s got a quick release and nba range, with room to spare. He’s not afraid to drive into the paint either. With that said I’d have probably taken doncic or someone else because of young’s liabilities.
Trier as a 6th-grader - ( New Window )
“I’m actually talking to the people over there now. Vince McMahon, he knows me,” Kanter told Vice. “I had dinner with [Paul Heyman] two, three days ago. I asked him how long he’s gonna do this and he said ‘as long as Brock [Lesnar] goes, I go, and then I’m with you.’ I’m like yes! Seriously. I’m really serious about it.”
I don’t see the concern with the cap and hardaway until the day comes where we lose out on a better player because of his salary slot. Even then, there are ways to skin a cat and that day isn’t here yet. Hardaway carries himself like a pro and plays like one. He’s not Clyde drexler, fine. He’s not a broken down slob either.
