NFT: HP Laptop - No Sound

Gary JC : 10/19/2018 8:36 am
Okay, all you tech geeks. I have an HP pavilion laptop, six months old and the sound stopped working. I went into device manager, checked sound mixer, checked both with headphones and without, downloaded a new sound driver and yes, checked mute options, rebooted several times, searched online and everything else. No sound. Any ideas?
Windows 10?

If it was a recent update, Windows broke it. There is a patch though.

Thank you. I downloaded the KB update but I can't get it to install for some reason. The list of Windows Updates doesn't list KB4468550 even though I tried to run it as administrator.

the same problem. A clean reboot (remove battery and disconnect power cable) solved it.

No battery to remove, it's all sealed. I hate laptops. lol. Thanks for the input though.

On their support site they offer a solution when no battery available to remove.

Use the device manager to find a system audio device with "SST" in the name.
Right click on that and Roll that driver back to previous version.

I think it is an intel driver incompatibility with the realtec audio hardware.

This is on an 2018 HP laptop i assume..but I think the solution will work for many.
