NGT: McCoy Fired as Cardinal's OC

johnnyb : 10/19/2018 1:41 pm
While the cardinal's performance was pathetic last night, as mentioned on a few threads this morning, the OL was terrible. It is a shame McCoy is the scapegoat.
mike McCoy Fired by cardinals - ( New Window )
McCoy wasn't the scapegoat, he was a big part of the problem.

3rd time in less than 2 years he's been fired. Guy has done nothing in the NFL other than ride Peyton Manning's coattails one year to pay check after pay check.
They can hire

McCoy was 100% not a scapegoat.

He was the worst OC in the league by far. His play calling was laughable.

Agreed, he was the worst coordinator in the NFL this year. Can’t spend a high draft pick on a QB, pay a RB and then be this brutal on offense with absolutely no signs of getting better.

johnnyb : 10/19/2018 2:00 pm : link
last night the issues were the OL, not play calling. And Josh Rosen was not that good, even when he had time to throw. Never said McCoy was a great OC, just hat he takes the blame for a situation that has many culprits. GM, HC on down.

Yeah but as an OC your job is to make in game changes. Similar to McAdoo last year he did nothing to help Flowers. Why on earth is David Johnson not moving all over the place? The OL can be helped by an up tempo, quick hitting offense and they have some personnel for that.

Couldn't be more obvious the Cards OL was a joke last night. Couldn't be more obvious the Giants OL has been a joke all year. (FO ranks them dead last). It's was the #1 problem for the Cards last night and is the Giants #1 problem all season but according to BBI it's the OC, or the QB, or the WR, or the play calling, or the head coach.

Byron Leftwich is the new OC. Interesting. I didn't even know he was coaching. He last played in 2012.

There's a lot of inexperience on that coaching staff and now they hand over the offense to someone who's never beeen an OC before.

The most important job of a Head Coach is putting together his coaching staff. It is something Parcells excelled in, Coughlin not so much. Wilks did a lousy job (as it appears to me, I don't pretend to have all their resumes in front of me, but when you see a lot of former NFL players with not much coaching experience on the staff, I don't think it's a good sign).
Last year was Leftwich's first as a coach
Milton : 10/19/2018 2:27 pm : link
They are setting him up for failure, it's not fair to him. They should find a recently retired offensive coordinator with experience in a system similar to the one they run and hire him as assistant head coach.

I don't know. Its a good learning opportunity for him and it shouldn't come with much pressure given what we've seen out of that team at this point.
Leftwich has been on some lists as a future HC candidate

Cannot do worse then McCoy. Bruce Arians endorsed him as a OC. I hope Byron does well.

he definitely is not a scapegoat. I don't watch many Cards games but listening to the radio the main issue is how he used David Johnson. Johnson is better around the edges, yet McCoy continually ran him up gut repeatedly. They were expecting him to be fired with the long week if they didn't perform last night.

Dear Bill,

The Jets offensive line is ranked 21st, yet they r averaging 27.5 ppg on offense. The chargers offensive line is bad too, but go and see how many points they put up per game. Cant put the blame on o line all the time

STFU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Their defense have been a turnover machine and they are awesome at running the ball.

You on the other hand suck altogether.

Sxdca you don’t suck. That was harsh.

Your posts and threads do since they are so agenda driven.

Part of the issues were the OL, correct. However, David Johnson was run up the middle at nausem when he excels in space. McCoy was 100% part of the problem last night.

Yeah man! I can’t believe BBI had the audacity to fire McCoy! How stupid are they?

Wait, what the hell does BBI have to do with McCoy being fired?

I always liked Leftwich as a player. He was my top-rated QB the year he came out (I forget why I liked him better than Carson Palmer, maybe it was just that I had them ranked the same). But it's asking a lot of a guy who only has one year of experience as a QB coach. A rookie OC paired with a rookie QB is not a formula for improvement for either of the two. Maybe Rosen's injury will provide them with an excuse to go back to Bradford. At least then you're pairing a seasoned veteran with the rookie OC.

Like I said, it's nothing personal against Leftwich. I like the guy. I like his potential as a coach for some of the same reasons I liked his potential as a player.

Said Leftwich called some games in the preseason, and when he did they moved the ball.
