JPP doing well with Bucs so far

Reese's Pieces : 10/19/2018 5:13 pm
Much better than the Bucs defensive coordinator, who has been sacked.

Glad to see JPP doing well.

One of the few All Pros on the Giants' active roster accidentally shoots himself in the leg.

Another accidentally blows up his hand.

Geesh!

JPP earns respect in Tampa Bay - ( New Window )
Always liked him , Good for JPP we had some great DEs Strahan Osi Tuck

.
JPP was probably the most talented
Scuzzlebutt : 10/19/2018 6:49 pm : link
of all the great DEs we have had over the years, but he was a “sometimes” effort guy. He did not have the heart (or brain maybe) to be a truly great player IMO.
After the 2011 season

I thought JPP was on his way to a hall of fame career. He was still considered raw but he had a monster season. It's too bad that he didn't replicate that success. JPP is probably the slowest top DE off the snap that I have seen. He never gets a good jump off the snap.
When Romo was covering the Tampa Bay game,
Reese's Pieces : 10/19/2018 8:53 pm : link
he said a couple of times how difficult JPP was to play against because of his combination of size and speed.

Without JPP no 2011 championship.

Without Plax no 2008 championship.

That's enough for me.
People constantly forget that he hurt his back
bhill410 : 10/19/2018 9:03 pm : link
And hasn’t been the same explosive player since. He put on weight to compensate and he lost that freak athletic ability that he had in 2011
Yes, that's a part of the NFL that sucks

For a young player bound for stardom it can all be over in just one play.

Ahmad Bradshaw's foot injury.

Kenny Phillips knee injury.

Newsday beat writer Tom Rock said of Phillips

In just his second year in the league, Phillips had the look of a Pro Bowler: that rare combination of a sure tackler, a devastating hitter, and a smart, aggressive coverage man with phenomenal range.

Of course for Bradshaw it wasn't just one play. He went out and played through the pain of broken bones in his foot.
I think ...
Manny in CA : 10/19/2018 10:03 pm : link

The injury that did him in was his shoulder injury (which he didn't get surgically fixed).
JPP

is certainly not the most talented DE Giants have ever had.

This is a crazy statement.
yes

JPP ,Devon Kennard and Romeo Okwara have 13 sacks total
the NY Giants team currently has 7 sacks total

While everyone was concerned about offense this off season
Gettleman got rid of all these playmakers and left our defense without and good pass rushers
Trading JPP was the best move of the offseason
AcesUp : 10/20/2018 10:11 am : link
The tone of our last offseason should have been consistent with dealing him. This is JPPs MO, he plays well for stretches then gets hurt or fades. There's plenty to beat up DG about, that deal cleared out a bad contract and netted us BJ Hill. I'm hoping for similar moves this offseason.
Reese should never have agreed to pay a one-handed
GeofromNJ : 10/20/2018 10:48 am : link
player the money he offered to JPP and DG was wise to trade him.
After he was re-signed, all JPP did was
Jimmy Googs : 10/20/2018 10:50 am : link
get stonewalled at and around the LOS.

If this had been the "win now" year that had been hoped,
Reese's Pieces : 10/20/2018 12:08 pm : link
then you could discuss whether it was wise to trade JPP.

Since this has turned into a "win a couple of years from now" year, the trade was best for both sides.
