The Jets are getting a ton of praise for drafting Darnold, but a few months earlier they were offering Kirk Cousins the richest QB contract in NFL history. Would that have been smart? The Vikings bailed out the Jets & are getting worse results this year for it. The point is, sometimes the right decision is made later or teams fall back to the right decision.
I bring this up with regards to Barkley & the Giants. If you think QB should have been the play, you can still acknowledge how well Barkley has played in addition to being a grown up in the locker room. What if Lauletta fits Shurmurs scheme and runs an efficient offense similar to Keemun last year? If Lauletta doesnt cut it, then we go QB in 2020.
I totally get the argument that the Giants are wasting time right now, but Rosen is getting pounded & Allen is already hurt. Darnold looks good & his demeanor/attitude fit NYG franchise QB. But, Barkleys demeanor/attitude is pretty damn impressive as well.
I do think Lauletta needs to start ASAP though. Barring being 3-5 at the bye, I would encourage the Giants to give Lauletta the reigns @SF in a few weeks. That is a full half season of playing time.

If Barkley busts they can shit on the Giants. But he looks every bit as goood as advertised. The same assholes wanted Laquan Treadwell two years ago.
You need it all. Great coaching great players and a bit of luck. Darnold may be a great QB but the Giants were broken in every facet. The mantra that at least some of theses teams who drafted are better off just for having one is moronic. If Winston and Marriota were here last draft they'd have gone Just as early. 3 years later are those two teams fans feeling better s a young QB

I know everyone wants to bash Eli but he won more SBs than Brees and Rogers. And head to head, Eli is 2-0 against Brady and I will always be grateful but it is time to move on just like Montana, willfully or unwillfully. All Giants fans should and will always to be grateful to him

That couldn't of happened due to Eli's contract and would of stopped them from signing anyone based on what Cousins wanted.
Now that we have Darnold on such a cheap contract (for now) we can set ourselves up for more lasting long term success. With Cousins you would be looking at hopefully a 3 year window and a lot of uncertainty after that.
Luck had something to do with it. The Jets loved Darnold from the start but never thought he'd be there considering the franchises ahead of them that desperately needed a QB

This is nothing like Rex and Sanchez. Darnold is light years ahead of Sanchez in his development. At a younger age too.

Darnold can't choose his opponents. But it was nice to see him go in there and win a game for us when the Jets played like crap.
