I caught Louis Riddick @LRiddickESPN talking about how bad Wheeler is. Someone tweeted that he might get better after a year of starts and he shot it right down ...
"What Saquon is doing in the running game behind this #giants OL is nothing short of a miracle every time he happens to gain positive yardage. Especially when running to the right. This OL is bad on that side. Really bad!
RESPONSE: "Lets hope Wheeler can show at least some type of progress".....RIDDICK: "Not going to happen... RESPONSE:..."Its possible, only his 2nd year and now he is a full time starter." RIDDICK: No. It isn’t. He is not good enough. I kid you not...it’s gross.......You could replace three of these guys with blocking dummies and you would not notice a difference. It’s sad in many ways.
Maybe Pulley helps the right side but this is disappointing to hear when you have a GM and Head Coach that were both OL and they couln't find better tackles. The Ereck Flowers disaster has had such a ripple effect. Not only was he a flop at LT, but his failure at RT really left us in a bad situation. What if Solder gets hurt??? Put Eli in a Michelin Man Suit???????
In Car he signed Mike Remmers off another team's practice squad, drafted Daryl Williams in the 4th (second team all pro last year), signed Norwell as UDFA, drafted Trai Turner in the 3rd (3 time pro bowler), draft Taylor Moton late in the 2nd round (PFF's all first quarter team in his second season). That's without giving him credit for any of the Giants OL during his time here (he's been credited with O'Hara for example but who knows).
Omameh has been a bust but I'm hopeful that with more time at RG he can at least be average or slightly below vs where he is now. We'll see with Solder. He started very slowly last year but played much better during the second half so I'm hopeful.
Hard to believe in the era of free agency, this team could be so bad on the offensive line for 7 seasons
Our drafts under Reese set us back an untold number of years.
I hope DG can improve this. So far he's 50/50. His draft looks like an A but his first FA class a C- at best. Omemah is brutal and Stewart was a real headscratcher.
I don’t know why your blasting him. Our right side of the offense, including the center, is brutal. Wheeler is not the answer. Omameh isn’t either.
Coaching, scheme
I guess that would save some cap money for other positions...

But then he ignores this when asked about Eli and the pass protection he is working with? Hypocrisy
I think his point is Barley has still been successful. Eli not so much.

barkley is 16 years younger and probably won't make it to 30 behind this line. eli was never a scrambler so all the little things footwork wise he does don't mean anything when 3 or 4 guys are surrounding you

Hey tackling dummies cost
Even if that was the case, what is he saying that's wrong here? We all know the right side has been bad.
no kidding, and the stooge strategy continues. I suspect we will be wondering what is wrong next year when nothing is resolved. Until the owners stop acting like Dan Synder and bring in alpha male GM and staff and push off owner meddling we are not looking good moving into the future.

Well, it will be interesting to see the pulling guard and trap plays. I guess probably won't lose any more yards than usual...
Nothing on offense will work until this mess is fixed
Nothing on offense will work until this mess is fixed
what makes you believe that it will be fixed? That is a really big assumption given our track record. Sometimes incompetence becomes institutional as does perception about desire to coach and play for the Giants on the offensive line.

The offensive line has been a deteriorating shit show since 2011. The prior regime did a poor job with their choices to build a new line. DG has done ok with the Hernandez pick but the rest is a mess and will need a couple of more draft picks and some FA picks just to get to average.

Nothing... He's possibly hit on one pick. While he had a good track record in Carolina here needs to up his game next year or it's going to be the same old same old no matter who is the QB

that given another offseason Gettlemen will find another couple of solid OL. Gettlemen's track record is really good in this department but nobody bats 1000.

Pretty long drought after O'Hara and McKenzie. Boothe was a nice utility player, but the reality is that Gettleman was right there with Reese and Ross while the line was falling apart, and he wasn't any more successful at stopping the bleeding than they were.
+1. Keep in mind that 40% of the great line we had was FA based, it wasn’t all home grown talent (O’Hara and McKenzie). I am a little concerned with the amount of cash Gettleman threw at Solder. It was like we couldn’t get Norwell so we just grabbed the next most expensive guy to save face. That signing could really hurt us for the next few years if he doesn’t pick it up.
Riddick would have made things worse and panicked. DG isn't going to panic no matter how crazy the fan base is.

Apparent that we should have hired a GM outside of the Giants’ typical network. I honestly wish we would have hired Riddick at this point.

Is there any basis for anything you've said there?
And if he didn’t, you’d be screaming that he sat back and did nothing...
Nice burn. Gettlemans rebuild around Eli is going so well !
