It’s pretty clear at this point that we are in full rebuild

mode. I think it was wishful thinking on the part of ownership and our new GM that we could somehow become a playoff team this year or even next. A buddy of mine who isn’t a Giants fan summed it up pretty well. The Giants are like the house you are interested in as it has great curb appeal (eg Beckham, Barkley, etc), but once the inspector comes out you find out that the foundation is ridden with termites and that the HVAC system is shot (the offensive line being the foundation obviously and tne HVAC system being Eli). We’ll see how the rest of the year unfolds but this may be at least a three year project from the looks of things.
Actually, many

of us kind of figured it was not going to be a good year. Ownership of course is going to sell they are trying to contend or else the fans will not show or buy gear.

I predicted 6-10 and that was optimistic.

Agreed, you kind of have to wonder if the reality of us being bad for a while may have played a role in the Barkley pick, especially if they weren’t totally sold on the QB’s. Barkley brings a lot of attention to the team even if we are bad. I mean honestly what young QB would even be successful with this line anyway?
the owners do not want you to believe that

although you could have 15 holes in a wall, they would patch each one instead replace the whole dry wall sections
DG gets an F in FA right now

I can't say that any signing or trade has helped this team. The draft looks promising but I still think we should have drafted a QB or traded the pick. I love Barkley and think he may be one of the best RBs ever but I don't want to be the Lions with Barry Sanders. I would like to win. We don't have a winning QB right now and we are paying like we do.
Using hour own analogy
UConn4523 : 10/20/2018 4:34 pm : link
wouldn’t a full rebuild mean finding all that damage and then just knocking the house down?

We are in get better mode. We can’t cut everyone and then hope to find 53 new players.
It's worse
Coach Red Beaulieu : 10/20/2018 4:43 pm : link
It's like the owner of the contracting firm that built the house is riddled with nepotism, a co-owner who doesn't know anything about construction, and they treat the company as a toy rather than a business that has a goal making money/winning.

We’ll get Tom Silva and the crew from This Old House to take care of reinforcing the foundation lol.

Barkley was the best prospect period. Think only Peyton Manning equaled Barkley's 94 rating, ever. So Barkley was not window dressing.
What’s more tragic:
LAXin : 10/20/2018 5:17 pm : link
In 2013, our GM so so so misjudged his team’s overall talent and lanscape, and, coupled with prospect that his stadium would host the Super Bowl, childishly installed a Super Bowl count-down clock in the locker room. The team promptly responded with the first ever 0-6 start, and the clock became a laughing spectacle around the league for five months.

Now, five full seasons later — that’s more Han one full NFL life time — that GM had been fired and, contrary to many BBIers’ cocksure claim, did not “have multiple offers elsewhere”. Not one team kissed his two rings and requested his service, in fact. Not one.

And what did our new GM do? Signing the WR diva and a 30-yo OT to $90M+ contract each, declared the 37 yo QB “with several good years left” ... and the team rewarded him with a 1-5 start, with no future QB on the roster.

I lived through the entire 90s, and this is depressing.

Try the 70's - we should be joyous about this team. In fact I'm interested what other old folks like me think - the 70's had no hope for the present or on the horizon. One horrible loss after the other. Even Perkins who was supposed to be the savior said "screw it" and went back to college after 3 depressing seasons (out of four) and he won a playoff game.

The 70's for me was the Yale Bowl and Shea and Csonka and Pisarcik and Tim Mara and moving to New Jersey. Todays situation not nearly as bad.

But then came George Young and LT and Phil Simms not being injured all the time and Bavaro and the rookie T. (Pepper) Johnson dancing on the 50 yard line in Pasadena...

Yes, it's frustrating thinking one team has BOTH Barkley and Beckham and they're not scoring 40+ a game... ridiculous in fact, but I'm patient. I waited a long time for one SB that I thought would never come let alone 4 - But I do believe this is the start of something good.

The draft has produced two players....

And remind me again what position we were picking?

Still can't even pick from the 3rd round on, even with the second pick...
We should have cut bait on Flowers last season.

He almost single handed lost the first game and we will pay for not replacing him for all of 2018.
Must be nice to be a Mara

Just like many on here your comment shows how you completely missed the point as to why a QB should have been taken. It was NOT to win now. SO why are you talking about the success of the QB this year when choosing the QB had NOTHING to do with the success of the team this year?

Secondly, even more scary is what DG did by going after an older LT instead fo a guy like Hubbard. If you know you are going to stink, why would you get SOlder?

No, I didn't miss the point because I disagree with the point. I wanted the best player. The best player by far was Barkley. I did not like most of the QBs and of those I liked Rosen. Good for Darnold that he appears competent. But Barkley was clearly the best player in the draft.

With half a brain knew this was a multi year fix, a major overhaul, a rebuild, whatever you want to call it. Don’t know why this is coming as such a revelation to so many.

The third guy out there is a body, not a starter....if we had a starter, he wouldn't be out there...
ridiculous
bc4life : 10/21/2018 4:44 pm : link
add one maybe two more OL starters and a few more pieces should be all they need to be competitive.

you are what your record is - but they have still been in most games. Philly game was embarrasssing, but, you pit the Champs stength aagainst a team's weakness - you rarely come out on top.
