They have always still had a serious hole. Either no defense, or no WRs. Their QB is over rated and really cannot win enough games when it is put on his shoulders.

That’s a really shitty retort. The point is Dallas is lauded yearly for how amazing their line is and that’s how you win in the NFL but they don’t have a thing to show for it. I’d actually rather be the Giants, they don’t have to pay Dak Prescott.

That's going to happen, guys go down in the NFL (although usually due to injury not disease). The fact that they never addressed the QB position for life after Romo is the bigger problem.

No team is tap dancing to a Lombardi Trophy on the back of a shitty OL. A good OL certainly doesn’t guarantee success but it’s definitely a prequisite to getting in the conversation.

You can debate how you build a quality line and the merits of burning premium picks on OL, but pointing at Dallas as an anti OL point is completely misguided.

Did you miss 2011?

Teams go deep in the playoffs with mediocre OLs. I won't mention the Patriots and their investment since they're the outlier.

There are plenty advocating that we spend premium picks, resources and time acquiring OL before we address the QB position.

You can twist all you want, nobody said OL play was unimportant. Just that you can't ply a ton of resources into it, in particular ignoring the most important skill position on the field. You don't need premiere OL play to win, you just can't be the worst.

Dallas is going to be in an interesting bind - keep paying that OL or pay Prescott. Either way they're in trouble.

If there's any hope, which is doubtful, probably the best outcome for the Giants. Redskins are the only team in the NFC East they haven't played (and lost to).

was going to wait until after the Giants game. After all if NYG win maybe I'll have to look at the playoff race :)

and build a big, expensive OL. Hasn't won them anything, and it doesn't seem like it will any time soon.

Yeah, much better to follow that giants model and have your season over 8n October!

That’s a really shitty retort. The point is Dallas is lauded yearly for how amazing their line is and that’s how you win in the NFL but they don’t have a thing to show for it. I’d actually rather be the Giants, they don’t have to pay Dak Prescott.

Did you miss 2011? The OL played a lot better in the playoffs than they did in the regular season and they were a solid pass blocking unit all year.

Who are these teams you speak of? You’re creating some bullshit narrative out of thin air.

It amazes me that any Giants fan would advocate kicking the OL can down the road after watching this team the last 7 years.
Well the Giants haven’t kicked the can down the road

Pugh, Richburg, and Flowers all had problems. Flowers being a top pick made it a disaster. Then they spent on FAs like Baas and Schwartz which also didn’t work out.

Don’t confuse not doing something with doing something and failing.
I didn't, which is why I don't advocate the bullshit
jcn56 : 10/21/2018 7:44 pm : link
Overreaction that is the 'we need to spend years rebuilding the lines' crowd.

The 2011 line was awful at first, incapable of doing much, and finished mediocre. And guess what, with good enough play from the skill positions that was enough to win a SB.

Nobody is suggesting we should abandon the OL rebuild, just that an average OL combined with players like SB and OBJ, and average QB play should be enough to compete.

If there's a qb you want to lead your team for the next ten years, of course you draft him. If that guy isn't there, but there's a stud at another position wait another year to go qb.

What if that stud isn't there for the next 3 years, then what? Do you compromise? Go FA? Run whatever you have in the roster out there?

At some point, the Giants need to find the solution, and until then, they're likely going to be cellar dwellers.

So what? Just throw your hands up and say we tried? I never said they didn’t try, but this isn’t youth league soccer where everyone gets a participation trophy. The OL needs to be fixed regardless of what they invested in it in the past.
Really?

I had no idea...
If we can get a right guard and tackle along with some mobility at QB
joe48 : 10/22/2018 5:04 am : link
We could score points consistently. Add another pass rusher and we can be competitive next year. I am not saying SB.
