Should the Giants go DL Round 1, and QB Round 2?

nyjuggernaut2 : 10/21/2018 2:56 pm
It appears based of recent draft projections and scouting reports that the upcoming draft is top heavy with DL talent (Bosa, Ferrell, Oliver, etc), and that many of the top QB prospects are considered more low-end Round 1 talents than blue-chip top 5 type talents. It may be in the organization best interest to address the DL in Round 1 and draft someone like Nick Bosa, and then grab a guy like Daniel Jones or Grier in Round 2. Just a thought...
If they were to go that route
allstarjim : 10/21/2018 3:01 pm : link
A better idea may be to trade back up into the bottom of the first round to get that 5th year club option.

I think this only becomes a possibility if Herbert stays in school.
That's what I stated

On the Justin Herbert thread, draft either Nick Bosa or Ed Oliver or Jonah Williams and the go Daniel Jones in the second. I wouldn't touch Will Grier with a stick, he's a bum in a QB friendly system that made Geno Smith look like a Heisman worthy candidate... hard pass
They run a 3-4 defense.

That's the beauty of both Oliver and Bosa, they can play in any defense.

You go best player available. That is a good strategy to replenish the talent on the roster, IMO.
When we won super bowls ...

We had very good to dominate DLs. We can use more talent upfront. You hear me complain if they drafted a talented Defensive Lineman.
Should be "won't hear me"

If Herbert stayed in school I think Jones would probably be a first round pick. He may anyways depending on how the rest of the year and the predraft process goes.
Still too early
Sy'56 : 10/21/2018 3:43 pm : link
A lot of football to watch/scout

But if there is a pass rusher that can bring back what NYG used to have in that department, it is certainly a strong play.
Way to early to even speculate ..

I understand it's the downside of a losing season I didn't
expect to be eliminated after six games .
When you know where you are picking and what moves you make
even this season we may seems some moves and wouldn't be
a bad idea to accumulate as many picks as you can plenty
of need's .
BPA

WCO QBs are common, Giants need to get smart at roster building.

Team needs help at every position expect DT and RB.

With that said I would go to a difference maker on D in the 1st. Then try again to fix the OL.
Go BPA
RobCarpenter : 10/21/2018 4:06 pm : link
Choosing position over value is a terrible draft strategy.

You always look for a playmaker in the first round -
Ira : 10/21/2018 4:09 pm : link
someone who lifts the offense or defense because he's a step above most or all other players available when you pick.
Jones is a first rounder.
chopperhatch : 10/21/2018 4:19 pm : link
It wont be a questiin after the combine. It might not even be close if he plays well against Miami and Clenson.
If they don't like a QB enough
Bill in UT : 10/21/2018 4:36 pm : link
enough to take him in the first, it's probably not worth using a 2nd for lesser QB
Even a left tackle
idiotsavant : 10/21/2018 5:16 pm : link
If the player is a rare one, and move solder to the right side.

Pass rusher, OK.

Etc

I wouldn't complain about getting a difference maker on D. However and I know it's early, but it sounds like the draft is deeper on D this year and if that's the case, I'd look for a top OL in the 1st.

We need to fix the OL ASAP, and allow us to use the playmakers we have to the fullest. I think with an O hitting on all cylinders we can get away with an average D.

That said if a difference maker on D is head and shoulders the BPA, then I think they'd have to take him and I'd be good with that.
Fix the Oline

We Drafted Barkley, fix the damn Oline first.

Let’s play some games before we start projecting about

Drafting players. I can the OP can’t wait until season is over. We have 10 games to evaluate the players we have on the roster.

This may sound insane, but ...
FStubbs : 10/21/2018 6:38 pm : link
DG drafting offensive linemen in every single round of the 2019 draft is actually a reasonable course of action.
The Giants need to go oline in rounds 1 - 5! Playing a young qb
SterlingArcher : 10/21/2018 6:49 pm : link
behind that oline would be criminal.
Yeah, who needs a QB in the NFL
jcn56 : 10/21/2018 7:05 pm : link
in 2019? Let's sign Sam Bradford and just pick OL/DL first overall until 2023.

I hate using letters to shout out how i feel ,but for the sixth year in a row can we draft fucking OL with our top draft picks so that we can run an NFL type offense.

FCS!

Agreed.... Also we do not have a 3rd round pick in this draft. I'd trade back and load up on the OL early in this draft. We need to fix this OL with some young talent now. OL this year, Barkley will rush for a 1000 + plusssssssss.

Problem is they are not taking a LT with a top 3 pick because we just signed an average one for a ton of money. They are not taking a guard that high or a center so they have to go Defense
Maybe they can work out a trade to bring back Flowers

Giant John : 10/21/2018 9:15 pm : link
Depending on free agency then line next either oline or dline. We still have lots of holes.
I’m not going QB as of today..
Sean : 10/21/2018 9:21 pm : link
I’d go BPA every round which hopefully includes some pass rushers & OL help. I move on from Eli & attempt to trade Beckham for more draft picks in 2019 which we are light on right now.

I’d start Lauletta at QB, he will either be serviceable or he won’t. If not, we are in solid position to go QB in 2020. I’m not overreaching for a QB in 19 to make up for not doing it in 18, I’m fine with Lauletta.
The GM Needs to be Right
giantstock : 10/21/2018 11:02 pm : link
With a pick that may go extremely high on a crummy team-- he needs to make the right call. If the QB's are not that great then sure pass on them in the draft.
