NFT: I need some book recs

DC Gmen Fan : 10/21/2018 9:58 pm
Just got a Kindle and want to read more books. I'm into thriller type/psychological thriller or mystery- books that make you think and have some good twists.

Anyone have some good recs?

Thanks!
It doesn’t fit itnto any of those categories

But every day I’m becoming more and more convinced that “The Panic Virus” should be on everyone’s reading list. It’s pretty much an autobiography for some BBIers.
Donna Leon Inspector Brunetti series

is very well written in the "crime" and cultural genre. (Venice, Italy)
Any Ruth Rendell novel (or Barbara Vine, her other pen name) are good reads. The novels she writes under her own name tend to be psychological while the others tend to be more like traditional English detective novels.

By Richard Preston. A science non-fiction about Ebola virus. A good quick read that’s hard to put down

Mystery book of the month club?

Was thinking about getting mom a book of the month club for Christmas. She likes mystery paperbacks with no graphic sex or violence. Any suggestions for individual books or a book of the month that might fit?

I think good authors is a better recommendation than just a good book. A good source is a Mystery Award such as the Edgar Award or the Shamus Award.

Wikipedia lists award winners for each.

One of a trilogy, Highly recommended.
This really isn't the genre you're looking for,

but "Beneath a Scarlet Sky" is an absolute page turner. It's based on the true story of an Italian teenager during WWII who joins the resistance when the war comes to Milan.

It's the best book I've read all year.
Thanks for the recs

It's very long, but really holds your attention (at least it held mine). It's in the early stages of being made into a film as well.

Excellent read. Couldn't put them down. Conspiracies, unsolved mysteries, and murder. An awesome thriller series.

Obscure one. I've posted it here before, but y'all might enjoy.

Sort of a New London Noir type of thing. Hilariously so.

+1

I love that series and was going to recommend it myself.

There are also a lot of great books that are free and may be found on sites like:

http://www.gutenberg.org/wiki/Main_Page

http://www.feedbooks.com/publicdomain

A lot of libraries also now offer Kindle books (I live in Fairfax County, VA and borrow Kindle books all the time).

Also check out BookBub - I get a daily email of links to discounted or free books in the genres I've selected and have discovered a lot of great authors that way. What's nice about free books is that if you try them and don't like them, you can stop reading and delete the book without having spent anything other than a little time checking it out.

Enjoy!
