"I just truly want to be forgiven...I'm nervous just about how I'll be received by the public. I still have to work. I still have to live. I have to exist out there and it just seems like there is so much hate and negativity toward me.''
No shit! Had your pregnant girlfriend killed which also resulted in devastating brain damage to your son. Fuck that guy.
"Well at first I wanted you and your mother dead so that you would not come into this world and ruin my life, but I guess since you survived, we can be buddies!"
Who shows up at a prison release just to cheer the release of a man convicted of trying to murder a pregnant woman? What a group that must have been.
Is beyond puzzling. Here is a piece of garbage who hired a man to kill his pregnant gf simply to avoid paying child support. Now he wants to have a relationship with the kid. It’s a good example of what is wrong with this country when a wretched piece of garbage like Carruth is applauded for being released from prison.

No it's not. A "smattering of applause" from what must have been a tiny group of people (perhaps friends and/or relatives) says nothing whatsoever about the 325 million people in this country as a whole.
How can a guy

convicted of the premeditated murder murder of his pregnant girlfriend, be let out after only 17-18 years? SMH
The prosecution never put second degree murder on the table and so the jury decided that he was guilty of conspiracy to commit murder, which carries a less severe penalty.
It was a screw-up. Chancellor Adams - is son has been handicapped, grown up without a mother and has been raised by his Grandmother and he looks just like Rae.
the victim's family after the trial apologizing for not being able to convict him of first degree murder.
Why the prosecution never had 2nd degree murder on the table was a complete screw-up. It was clear at the time, the jury wanted to convict him on that, but couldn't. They were at an impasse on 1st degree.
If you read that article, the grandmother comes across as just an amazing person. I am sure there is a lot of pain she has that she doesn't talk about, but I can't imagine anyone handling a horrific situation better than she apparently has.
It helps to think the world isn't just filled with people who would cheer for Rae Carruth being let out of prison, but being filled with people like her.
As someone who has studied the question of free will, and no it to be an illusion, criticizing the failures of others is simply inconsistent with being a rational observer.

here on BBI when this happened. Even though everything originally pointed right at him, I was one of the few here not ready to immediately convict him before both sides were heard. When it came in, I agreed that he should be fried. Nothing seems to have changed over the years. Immediate assumption of guilt before hearing both sides.
On another matter, unlike the recent comment above, I am more of an Old Testament guy than a New Testament guy. It is more in line with human nature. Our baser instincts of an eye for an eye but that what most of us really are. The New Testament also generally does not work. Look at the history of the religion based on it.

Agreed.
And quite apart from that, even if free will wasn't an illusion, none of us knows Rae Carruth, or what the last 17 years in jail have done to change who he is. And the question of whether he should have a relationship with his son is not ours to answer.

So the hard-determinist wishes someone "best of luck"?

You didn't study it enough.
Pretty sure he was expressing a hope that whatever determined factors govern the rest of his life work out in his favor.
Strange times.
What a time to be alive.
Strange times.
apparently the same type of people who show up to prison releases

Literally cried watching it

Totally agree.
Strange how I remembered it, I thought he put the hit out but it didn't happen, so I thought he was in jail for attempted murder.
Just a terrible story.
he was convicted of conspiracy to commit murder, of using an instrument to destroy an unborn child and of shooting into an occupied vehicle.
But not murder.

God bless that woman

Almost sounds like murder to me............legal system, ugh.

The Grandmother and Chancellor are both amazing people who seem to be doing very well all things considered.

In any case, Carruth can go to Hell.
