With the Giants off yesterday, I watched the first 3 episodes. Pretty fun.
I didn't know a lot about the Netflix series, so I learned this: based on Shirley Jackson's 1959 book that was up for some pretty lofty literary awards that year.
Also: Stephen King once called the novel “as nearly perfect a haunted-house tale as I have ever read."
Looking forward to watching more when I have a chance. Pretty entertaining, and season-appropriate. Some seriously eerie, suspenseful stuff, and a handful of interesting characters.
Anyone else watching?
So far, I give it a "yeah, I recommend you check it out" rating.
I'm hopeful, going forward. So far, so good.
Really? lol That seems a bit much.
I stopped watching.
The one on Hulu about the hitman...now that one was pretty fire.
What happens ... yeeeeeee-ikes. LOLOL
I'm not easily startled, but if you allow your own childhood "gotta close the closet door before I do to sleep" moments a little play ... OH SHIT! lol
Like I said ... it's fun.

I don't mind the interplay between the kids, as grownups. It's interesting to see who they are as adults, and speculate on why, based on the way they dealt with living in a haunted house when they were kids.
I feel like the "melodrama" is a pretty believable byproduct of tat sort of fucked up experience as little kids.
Twilight Easter Egg - ( New Window )
I'm three episodes in. Very intrigued by what exactly happened to their mother.
Definitely a great watch.

You're exactly at the point where I am (3 in).
Theo had the premonition when her Mom touched her - that gave an idea. The "why" part is still to come (assuming the premonition ends up being correct). That was when her Mom gave her the gloves to wear (so she wouldn't pick up on people's "stuff" all the time.
I loved the scene where Theo visited the home of the foster family. Pretty gut-wrenching. She is my favorite character thus far (Theodora).

but I'm enjoying this. I like telling the story in flashbacks crossed with how the family is managing in the present what they went through as kids. The scary parts are definitely delivering. But they also build the characters well.

Yeah I was trying to pause each frame at the end when they're fleeing on the final night to know what she was seeing when she grabbed her father's arm. She's a great character.
The basement scene in that episode is unreal. But the show does a good job of picking its moments. It's not just pure horror start to finish. At least not yet
TBH though, I don't believe 1960s "scary" translates well to 2018, but it's still a movie I recommend.

Agree. The "horror" was left to the viewer to imagine as Theo was able to experience what her young patient went through, and to determine who, exactly, "Mr. Smiley" was. Pretty cool writing there ... tough to watch. All too real for many children in that scenario, I'm sure.
I was going to watch it by myself because my wife doesn't like scary stuff. But I talked her into watching one episode with me on Saturday morning and we ended up watching the whole season lol.
The show wrapped itself up very well at the end as well.
I don't think it's gory at all. But again, I'm 3 episodes in. There's a little blood ... nothing radical. More just eerie as hell.
My wife says she won't go to the basement without me for a month. But she still watches. lol

I see the This Is Us thing from the way it's presented, with the constantly shifting timeline.
I'd say not at all. There is probably one scene in ep 1 or 2 and that's it. It's about 1 second long and doedsn't show much. It's a great show. I think I may be desensitized to horror though. I found it creepy, but I didn't find it scary at all.
Big fan of Kate Siegel (Theo). But I'm a little older ... so Carla Gugino is the one I enjoy most. (You'd think with the whole Molly Pan thing, I'd love Levy Tran, too. Guess I've moved on.)
I did recognize on my own that Mrs. Dudley (one of the caretakers) is Annabeth Gish! Remember her as the youngest sister in Mystic Pizza?
Once again? I am old. lol
Not at all.
Someone said episode 6 is ... something ... the best? The scariest?
TONIGHT!
Lots of chills!
