Giants need to follow the Raiders Q

EJJ : 10/22/2018 4:52 pm
Seeing what Chuckie and the Raiders got for Cooper it's time for DG to Show us why he's the man in charge. Time to start wheeling and dealing to stock pile draft picks.
We have talented vets like Snacks, Jackrabbit, Vernon, Time to get younger and less expensive players for the future.
I think most fans would welcome some action rather standing pat and not moving on from these guys and building for the future.
Agree, like Cashman a couple of years ago.

The trade deadline is early in the NFL so it is hard for owners to commit to selling at this time of year but that is in the best interest of this organization.
Salary Cap people

learn it, understand it. The NFL is not MLB. Trades in NFL accelerate money against your cap. The Giants have no room to make trades.
Saints

It came across the wire services that the Saints are looking to acquire a CB
I would trade Jackrabbit to the Saints for a (2)

I love posts like this trying to look smart by making it sound impossible. Trading Eli would save us approximately 4.8 mil. I don't know how that works as we get into the season with paychecks but that shouldn't be an issue other than the fact nobody would want Eli.

Snacks would save us money against the cap and probably return us something of value. He would save us money against the cap.

Jenkins would cost us money but not much. If we cut him at the beginning of the year it would have only been a half mil cap hit.

So, yeah, there are two players in Snacks and Jenkins that probably aren't in the longterm plans that could help get us some assets now.

So, yeah, know the cap. Blah blah bullshit.

Landon Collins is another guy that saves us about 1.2 mil

I don't know if we are signing him long term. If he isn't in our plans it makes sense to get something for him now.

Thing about Collins is he is only 24 years old and has yet to play with a legit FS next to him. Get him an above average FS and watch him flourish
Sell now

I personally like Collins but he's going to cost a ton and he hasn't been the difference in us becoming a top defense. I think in the right scheme and supporting cast he is a great piece. But in terms of building a defense I don't think he should be the guy to build around. Also, his play has fallen off lately. That last game he was absolutely abysmal in terms of tackling.
I am all for trading guys when it makes sense....

however, trading Snacks is a mistake. He is the heart and soul of the defense. His is the best run stopper in the league. Without him we will get run over. Before he came to the team we were giving up 200+ yards per game on the ground at times.

It was said that we have a handful of premier players and then the rest are just guys who many not even belong in the NFL. Well, dumping our top players leaves us with basically an entire roster loaded with nothing.

So, we need to be extremely careful who we let go or trade. Cap money means nothing if you cannot get production in return for the player you walked away from.

Want to get rid of Jenkins? OK...what do our corners look like then if Eli Apple gets an injury? I suppose I can come out of retirement.

We cannot afford to do what the Raiders are doing because we have absolutely no depth.

+ 1

Every guy you trade for draft choices, you have to replace, and often times the guy you choose as the replacement isn't as good as the guy you've traded. This team doesn't have a surplus in talent, so I think it's wise to hang on to the talent you have, and add to it.
Silly people

Trade all the good players for draft picks?

You need good players to win.

Yes, trade Eli if someone wants him and we have decided to move on. Same with Collins IF you have already decided not to keep him. You want to trade players you are not going to keep next year. IMO maybe Eli, Collins, Vernon. I really don't see many others who would bring anything back.

I guess we could probably get a #1 for Barkley?
The one that really floors me is the idea of trading Snacks...
EricJ : 10/22/2018 7:23 pm : link
There are two players on this roster who to me are untouchable... Barkley and Snacks. Each one is the foundation of the offense and defense.

If you cannot stop the run, you simply cannot win...period.

Snacks is not the heart and soul of this team. He is a guy that admittedly said he didnt want to be a captain last year because he knew it was going to be a bad year. Great player? Yes. Great leader? Nope.

Plus, his play this year isn't what ot once was. We are still getting run over.

Do I like Snacks as a players? Yes. Do I think he is part of pur long term plan? Not even close. His knees are only getting worse. Better to sell high on him than let him deteriorate.

I am not trying to trade players just to trade players. I am, however, trying to be objective in where this team is and where it is headed. If we can get another 4 year player out of Snacks that can potentially be a future core player then I am for that because this team is at least 2 more offseasons away from competing.

Robbie, if we can get someone to plug up the middle then fine.

When? Imo, if this is done right it'll take two more offseasons. Finding someone to replace him doesn't need to be done now. We also have Tomlinson and Hill that can play the nose. They definitely will not be as good as Snacks but that shouldn't be the goal. The goal should be to get us into position 2 years from now. What will help us more? Having Snacks 2 years older if his contract hasn't run out or a young guy that we can choose? Give me the young guy that we can choose. Our run defense has sucked for 2 years. Snacks is not helping us win right now so lets get something while his value is high.
I would trade Curtis Riley

For two superstar and one quick development in Madden, DG needs to do the same and get rid of OBJ.

DG doesn't do computers so he probably doesn't play Madden.
