A lot of Shurmur hate tonight, and plenty of it justified. I liked going for 2 even though it baffled people at the time, but he made a lot of questionable mgmt calls tonight.
But before we bury the guy I think he needs a chance without Eli running his offense. Whatever is said (or not said) in the media it's obvious the system isn't being run to his liking. It's clearly not a fit.
I don't know that a 4th round rookie is going to look good running it, but (1) it can't be worse (2) I think Lauletta might surprise people (3) sign someone like Bridgewater or even Tyrod in the offseason and let's see what they can do. Shurmur inherited Eli and I think he needs to shake loose of him before we can evaluate it properly.
He is not a head coach. He’s a coordinator.
I'm open to canning Gettleman though. He's the one who came out front and said Eli was the guy when it was painfully obvious to many of us that Eli is toast.
His record in Cleveland was abysmal. His short time here has been laughable. A 12 year old playing Madden has better time management skills than he does.
He's had the short end of the stick with some of the personnel, but they shouldn't be this bad. He's not going to get remarkably better any time soon.
Is he all of a sudden a good coach?
Fuck. That. Bullshit.

I agree with this, I just don't think he'll have the luxury of having time to pick and develop a QB. This franchise isn't stable enough for Shurmur to survive that long.
Giants are also penalized rarely for procedural meaning he can teach.
I do want to see him with his handpicked guy.
Witten kept saying Ryan was throwing to his spot when rushed while Eli was holding the ball. Witten said the WR were open and so did McFarland..We could not see the WRs so I'd have to believe them. Witten sounded frustrated with Eli.
Yes the line blew big time 1st half, but so did Atlanta's.
What tf did you expect to see this year? Did you really expect a winning product? Did you see the roster turnover? This was always going to be a bad team because nobody was turning this around in one year. This team was 3-13 last year, and experienced a ton of change, and still needs a competent QB, because this is a QB-driven league. They don't have it.
I'm enjoying this season because I'm getting to watch some exciting young players in Saquon, Hill, Carter, etc, and watching the Giants do what they need to do to get the next great QB and build the roster, which is lose a lot of games.
As much as some of you are sick and tired of the losing, this is exactly the best thing for the long-term interests of the franchise.
Again, the expectations from some of you are laughable. There's no magic fairy dust that was going to make this team a winner this year.
I bet you take what politicians say at face-value, also, huh?
What was he going to say? Eli was under contract for not one, but two additional years. Of course he was always going to be the QB for 2018, even if they had drafted Darnold.

Oh please. There was plenty of politicking going on during the hiring/evaluation phase. And even if he did think Eli could do it, it's clear now that he can't. So where do you go from here? Fire the first year coach after only giving him a cooked Eli to succeed with? I think he deserves a shot with someone else.
Then you were unfortunately deluding yourself. I knew in preseason, where my suspicions were confirmed, that the team was going to lose at least another 12 games.
Don't know how many seasons it takes for people to realize this team can't win with Eli anymore.

I don't know what your expectations were but I expected to be better then 1-6 and playing horrendous football.

Bingo. In hindsight that flukey 11-5 season really set us back. A great D and some fortunate wins masked plenty of problems. Eli hasn't played well (consistently) for a long time.

You make many points. First and foremost the roster turnover. Only 18 have returned from last year. That was a bad roster though and while I like DG and Shurmur, I think there are were a few signings that didn't make much sense ( Stewart, Omameh ) and a few that should have been made ( retain Fluker, sign a Right Tackle and keep Jones ).
This offense has been out of sync too long now.
Case Keenum made it to the NFCCG with this "system." Another brilliant take from you.
He's not doing much to inspire confidence right now, but we hired him for his work with QB's. If we're going to now turn around and never give him a shot with anyone but Eli @ age 37+, I'm not sure why we even hired him to begin with.
Lauletta should be playing ASAP - at least see if he can do anything with that.
