The first, you have to hit OBj quickly, but he didn't....then he rolled right and didn't see Ellison, ALL ALONE IN THE CENTER OF THE END ZONE!
Third and 2, throw a quick dump, 5-8 yards behind LOS and with 3 guys keying on Barkley? At least look downfield, fake pump at someone and then try Barkley......but Eli looked nowhere else but at Barkley and the play never had a chance...
It's so easy to defend this offense, just follow Eli's eyes....

Lol it’s a designed play!!!! There’s a lineman 6 yards downfield. There is absolutely no one else to throw the ball too. The WRs aren’t even running patterns.
1.) not every play works as expected and Eli did not read the zone defense (as per both Eli and Shurmur). Happens. There were plenty other plays that failed also.
2.) At that point in time Shurmur should have seen that Atlanta was keying on Barkley every play and used him as a decoy. He is great and can make something out of nothing lots of times. A quick slant should have been the call. How about something to Engram..

But Wtf was that play to the left later in the game... I believe it was a quick swing pass to Engram who gained a few yards, but Barkley also swung out and was like 5 yards behind him all by himself in the backfield.
Seemed like ridiculous play design, or someone fucked up...

Yes this is true. Eli really needs to work on the no look pass!

I think this is right here is by far the most overlooked part of that play. Not only was Eli gun show throwing an easy one to OBJ. But he also missed a wide open Ellison. On the same play, he missed two easy throws in the end zone.
1. I 100% think he should have thrown it
2. I am far less convinced they score as the defender appeared to be gaining on OBJ and had decent position to make a tackle.
3. I am 100% convinced people would shit all over Eli had OBJ been tackled short.
But the correct play, imo, was to make the throw and trust the receiver.
Second play...
I HATED that call, but it looks like it may have been successful had we blocked it. Had to get that first guy blocked. Still, pretty shitty call in that spot.

there isn't a lineman 6 yards down field. There are 4 blocking and one on the ground at the LOS
it's distorted, the defender was right on him. But Eli has to throw that ball to OBJ 100 times out of 100. Lead him out front and let him try to get it.

How can you tell what the other WRs are doing?
Then who is the player at the 36 yard line engaged on a block? Its Pulley. Theres only 3 OL blocking and Engram is going out on a pattern.
How do I know the WRs wre blocking? Cause they showed the replay of the WRs not even running routes. And the analysts pointing it out and saying it was a designed play....lol

2nd play is just sad.
Picture is not misleading, OBJ is over a step ahead and is faster than the DB. And yes he needs to lead him or the DB will catch up. Bang, bang play that needs to be made and is made in college and pro games weekly.
How many DBs catch OBJ from behind?
If you're using that 2nd one as indicative of Eli checking down Â
You didn't watch the game.
It was a called swing pass which was already being blocked downfield when he threw the ball. Every receiver in that play ran 10 yards and stopped and stood there. The problem was that none of the O-Line got out to help Barkley

I mentioned this play in another thread. I thought it was a bad design but you're right, someone could've fucked up.
Seems to me they were keying on Barkley all night and the play should've had Barkley going the other way, bringing some defenders with him. The way they ran it though,(to the short side of the field taboot) there was no room and too many defenders to give the play a shot at breaking it long and only netted 8yds.

I think the first thing he needs to learn is how to escape 4 defenders within 1 yard of him 1.4 secs after getting the ball or step up in the pocket right into the guy your RB just got blown up bye.
These were actually complaints made in the game thread last night

I get that. I'm not faulting Eli. I'm puzzled why we are throwing a screen pass 9 yards behind the line of scrimmage when it's 3rd and 2.

That wasn't for you (I actually agree that it was a shitty call) that was for the ones claiming it wasn't a designed swing pass to fit in their anti-Eli agenda no matter what (See Doomster)
Watch the play again. It's clear this was a designed play. You can see the WRs start to block as soon as they get near a defender without even trying to look for a pass.
Has to go to Odell. Inexcusable. The CB might catch Odell, he even has an outside chance to undercut the route, but awful to not even try.
Missing Ellison, I'm not sure about. You always teach QBs not to throw against their body while rolling out so it depends where exactly he was at the time.
IAEF
This is simple.
1. Eli should have thrown to Odell.
2. Horrific play call.
If you see it often, it means someone's actually coaching the team to do that.
