Browns fire Hugh Jackson

cjac : 10/29/2018 11:52 am
I think this is the last piece they needed to be a good football team
Finally
BigBlueDownTheShore : 10/29/2018 11:53 am : link
that was a long time coming.
*Hue
Anakim : 10/29/2018 11:53 am : link
And it was a long time coming. He's not a good head coach.
I would think Todd Hailey
BigBlueDownTheShore : 10/29/2018 11:53 am : link
would take over.
After watching Hard Knocks this past season
figgy2989 : 10/29/2018 11:54 am : link
You can see that this guy just wasn't a good head coach.

That said, I am surprised they brought him back this year.

I think Haley will take over for the rest of the season and then they'll go after someone like Flip.
Wow
Eli Wilson : 10/29/2018 11:54 am : link
He was talking about replacing his OC. They must have decided he was the problem instead.
my bad on the spelling
cjac : 10/29/2018 11:54 am : link
but after watching Hard Knocks you could see he was not the guy to run that team. they need more of a hard ass
Funny
BigBlueDownTheShore : 10/29/2018 11:55 am : link
so many reports had Todd Hailey being fired yesterday.

SFGFNCGiantsFan : 10/29/2018 11:55 am : link
Long time coming.

Never like to see anybody get fired, but totally justifiable.

3 - 36 - 1 with the Browns.

I wonder if a head coach has ever lasted as long with as bad a W/L record.
He is an awful head coach
Jay on the Island : 10/29/2018 11:58 am : link
Ownership should have never forced Dorsey to bring him back. From hard knocks alone you could tell that he wasn't a good head coach and he didn't have the respect of his staff. When you have to play the "I'm the head coach not you" card on day one that is a terrible sign.

He convinced ownership that Sashi Brown was the problem last year not him so they fired Brown deservedly so. According to PFT he was now trying to pin the teams struggles on Todd Haley. He obviously lost this battle.
A good amount of posters here wanted him after TC

Long overdue
He’s done as HC
greek13 : 10/29/2018 12:06 pm : link
Just awful
If browns get a good coach they Will be very competitive with the talent that they have
I was surprised they even kept him heading into this season
Mike in NJ : 10/29/2018 12:12 pm : link
Guy just didn't seem like head coach material. There was a scene in Hard Knocks where he basically shot down the input from his staff and basically said "I make the decisions, when you sit in my seat then you can call the shots." After seeing that you could just tell the guy wasn't long for the job, not a leader.

Too bad the OC was boys with the GM.
Looks like Hugh misread that situation

Long overdue.
MOOPS : 10/29/2018 12:19 pm : link
The team has no vision under him.
The Browns just keep botching things
ZogZerg : 10/29/2018 12:21 pm : link
They should never have kept him as HC this year.

I just read one of the greatest blurbs ever

Jimmy Haslam must really hate the Steelers

I’m pretty sure Haslam was a Steelers fan before he owned the Browns.

Hold my beer.

- Pat Shurmur
Not necessarily germane to the thread but this lady needs
pjcas18 : 10/29/2018 12:34 pm : link
some updates. At least Tyrod and Mayfield if not others.

When people hear the phrase QB hell and wonder exactly what it means, take a look at the back of this jersey

That's a little misleading, considering the others were fired after the season - they just all happened to play the Steelers in week 17 before Hue.

arcarsenal : 10/29/2018 12:45 pm : link
Baffling that he was left in place under the new GM after going 1-31 in the prior two seasons. This was long overdue. He's awful.

Haslam was a minority owner of the Steelers

Jackson's career .205 win percentage is second worst in NFL history among all coaches with at least 40 games. According to the Elias Sports Bureau, Jackson's 3-36-1 record with the Browns is the worst head-coaching record for one team in NFL history (minimum 40 games).

The only guy with a worse record had a level of job security Jackson didn't - he also owned the team.

Why even bring him back to start the year?
Dave in PA : 10/29/2018 1:07 pm : link
Why have him giving input on the draft? It never made sense to begin with
And Todd Haley as well

Reportedly.
Maybe Yosemite Sam

gets an interview for the job. Not sure if anyone watched Hard Knocks. This guy is a caricature of an old school football coach.

Jackson took no accountability for his terrible performance and instead convinced ownership that the old GM was solely to blame for constructing the roster not him. This week the weasel Jackson tried to do it once again by blaming the team's struggles on Todd Haley. Who would want someone like that in their organization?
heh...Yosemite Sam
Greg from LI : 10/29/2018 2:00 pm : link
Guy reminds me of onetime Bears HC Abe Gibron, though I only know of Abe via NFL Films as he was before my time.

The guy goes 1-31 but they keep him. Finally the Browns have a pulse and the fire him ? Why ? Because he couldn't beat the Steelers on the road ?
