College Recruiting Question

Reale01 : 11/4/2018 9:05 am
I work at a High School in the USVI. We have a kid who is a really good athlete, about 6' 5" 240. There is no competition here, literally no competition, we do not have a basketball or football program. Based on what I have seen from my time in the states he would definitely be worth a shot for a D3 or lower D1 program.

Is there a way to make contact with some of these folks? It would be great for him if it helps him to get into school somewhere. He is a good kid and a good, but not great, student.
I know my alma mater

At least for Football allows you to see who recruits in your region to allow you to contact
Does he play a sport?

Basically you need to do a few things:

1) Get some video of him playing his sport or at the least practicing it.
2) Get some numbers on him. Size, speed, strength, etc.
3) Either hire a recruiting service or manually contact a bunch of coaches directly.

Most, if not all, colleges have recruiting forms you can have him fill out online.

I should have also mentioned that coaches are going to want to see him in person. Most often they will host camps during the off-season for potential recruits.

I am gonna get some numbers and get some film of him doing some stuff. Also gonna look and see if there are any showcases in the area. I think he needs to find a coach the sees the raw potential and thinks he can make something out of it. He moves REALLY well for his size.

JUCO school might be an option? The football programs pretty much exist for lesser-known players to showcase their talent. Well, that and when players can’t qualify academically.
Camps.

Get him in as many recruit camps as possible at local colleges or big time schools at states close by.

If a mod can give you my email shoot me an email. Dealt with recruiting for a number of years at my last job. Have a lot of juco and lower level college coaches I can get you in touch with

Thanks, I would love to hear from you. JUCO might be an option. I am not thinking pro-potential just hoping it helps him to get an education. He has a great story to tell having come through Irma and would be a positive addition any campus. You can email me at Reale01@aol.com
Maybe Prep School
bebopson : 11/5/2018 6:49 am : link
There are a lot of low profile, but talented, kids who attend a post-grad prep school for a year to increase their profile. In fact, not just post-grad, but also regular high school age students. Take a look at the NEPSAC https://www.nepsac.org/
These schools are academically rigorous as well.
Other Sports

He could also be a candidate for non-revenue sports. Lacrosse, Rugby, Rowing. Depending on class, it sounds to me like he should try to get into a boarding school in the USA with a strong sports program.
Football is the Most "Athlete Forward" sport...other than Track

If a Kid is 6-5 and 240 Pounds, and He can Move, He can quickly be "useable" on a football field. The game highly features an ability to aim brute force and athleticism in very tight deployment---Soccer, Basketball, Baseball require much more in the way of very specific skill development to compete, no matter the Sheer Athleticism.

A Video of a Big, fast kid in a pair of shorts, playing handball or volley ball or ping pong...and maybe catching a soccer ball or basketball---that bshould be enough for a d-2 or d3 staff to have interest. The d3 guys have a surprising depth of non-athletic money to help a kid. A GREAT d3 program might be a place for a really athletic low experiecne kid to gain some knowledge and traction and experience. Those d3 coaches, especially, will be thrilled to hear from you.

There are independent college

recruiters out there. They get paid a percentage of the scholarship if awarded one. So they work to get the best deal for the kid and ultimately themselves. But do your research.
I'd seriously look into what tim duncan did

he went to St. Dunstan's Episcopal in Saint Croix per wikipedia.

I'd honestly just call them, they have a contact somewhere.
