Even though the Giants listened to trade offers for Landon Collins before the NFL's trade deadline, sources expect New York to place its franchise tag on the Pro Bowl safety if the team can't sign him to a long-term extension first. "I don't think they let him out," one source familiar with the Giants' thinking told ESPN. |
Just add some weight.
Just add some weight.
The Giants approached him about this after his rookie year. It was an emphatic no by him and he went on to have his best year trying to prove everybody wrong.
Brilliant scoop by Schefter.
Exactly. Collins has played on exactly 1 fully functional defense in his career, and was one the best defenders in the league. He's worth way, way more than a pick in the low or mid 90s.
The Giants have good options with Collins. Sign him, transition tag him and see what his market value is, franchise and keep him, franchise and trade him.
Exactly... someone please tell me who in the front office with this knowledge is talking to Schefter.
I don’t get the “shitty defense” thing. The Giants defense is on the field way too much and demoralized because the offense is putrid.
I think the defense is more than adequate and given support from the offensive side of the ball is well inside the top half of defenses league wide.
Don't wreck a good thing trying to change it.
Yeah and how much of that is due to always having to defend when the offense can’t score more than 2 TDS per game?

Collins, use the tag if necessary. He is still a great player on a shitty defense.

How many 3 & outs have they forced. How many leads have they protected?
Don't see it. I think there's a direct relationship between not being able to keep your mouth shut in the face of team struggles and overvaluing yourself in free agency.
Is he really going to want to play here? Waste some of his key years?
Don't know.

I think he'll stay with the team for a fair contract.

Or in other words, willing to trade for a 2md round puch while simultaneously wanting to resign longterm?
I find that....bizarre. You either want to keep him or you dont.
