I don't know what to say, except right now I'm very discouraged, seeing FA Omameh completely flop and big $$ OT Nick Solder play the worse football in his career.
It's complicated, players deserve much of the blame, but the biggest share belongs to Offensive Line coach Hal Hunter. I think he's over-his-head.
So we should have taken a serious look at Incognito when he was a FA a few years ago...
A few tackles worth a look from mid 1st through mid 3rd...
If they can sign him in FA and Brown works out during the final 8 weeks of the season, Gettleman can use his 2nd and 4th round picks on linemen or BPA to develop the roster.
Halapio might still be back as the starting C for next season, plus add a draft pick for competition and you can see an Oline coming into formation.
Of course, all of this depends upon the further development of Hernandez AND Solder playing at a reasonable level.

They'd better be sharks. I don't want anybody but straight up predatory, murderous, mentally insane, great white shark killers with frickin laser beams on their heads for next year's team.

Are you ok?
Need a young line to grow together
Draft is ideal option. However, that's a crap shoot as we've seen for several years.

I am hopeful that we see Jamon Brown improve the line and that he maybe worth re-signing. In FA I'm hopeful NYG focuses on the center position first then RT. Bringing in a couple young OL in the draft is a yes as well but I can only hope they get a QB and another OLB. Free Safety is the other position that needs upgrading.
Hopefully, Jamon Brown proves competent. At the very least, he proves to be viable competition to Omameh. Right now, we have no competition to force others to improve their game. Greco needs to go back to Center as Spencer is awful. Greco isn't any great shakes, but he is the best option for the remainder of the season at Center.
Next year, we will likely continue with Halapio, but we also need to draft a center to hopefully push him off the roster.
Assuming that Solder and Hernandez improve and Brown/Omameh turn out to be competent, then our biggest need is RT. Wheeler can not play in the NFL.
First step in improving the OL for this season and going forward is to get rid of Hal. He is a losing coach that has coached losing lines his entire career. How he was ever considered is beyond me.
I would definitely look to upgrade the coaching.
I think there are many opportunities for improvement here, but unlikely we will complete in one offseason. Significant gain is not unrealistic, though perhaps not likely.
Did your High School team lose this past weekend?
In one year?
1% chance.
We're on our 6th year re-build and we're further now than we were 6 years ago.
Just hoping for some progress in 2019 beginning with a kick- ass Center.
Round One: Jonah Williams; OT; Alabama
Round Two: Tyler Biadasz; Center; Wisconsin
With five parts of requisite talent, the play will improve.
As for Eli, I personally subscribe to moving on a year too early rather than too late, but unwilling to hang my hat on Lauletta either.
Hernandez is a "hog molly" and he is fantastic. Great pick IMHO. I think get the right players.

"fantastic" is quite a stretch, he's been a liability in pass-blocking having allowed 6 sacks already. I think he will be good eventually but he's nowhere near fantastic.
Pieces will have to be moved in and out to find the right combination. Then AND ONLY then, will they have a competent unit to go against some of the nastiest front sevens.
in terms of lower round picks that could develop into
solid starters same goes for LB's at least get a few special
team demons we don't even get that .
Have to do better in drafting Talent football players instead of just athletes .
Probably see at least 3 players drafted for the O-line
Hit on Two and were getting there . Couple of more FA so
we have at least something to work with .
I think the OL just improved a lot with this gift from the Rams. Center and RT are the remaining pieces.
Sadly it won't be.

I'd love to have Williams but let's be real, ain't nobody letting any good olineman walk out their door.
Forget Halapio, though he's an OK blocker on his own it's the centers job to get everyone's assignments in order.. and we had about 50 blown assignments in the few games he started.
The guy is a car salesman for fucks sake. If we don't get a new center we are in trouble.

From PFF:
Quote:
Through eight weeks, Hernandez’s overall grade of 72.9 is not only the highest grade among rookie guards this year, but it’s also the 14th-best mark ever recorded by a rookie guard over the first half a campaign. Through eight games, Hernandez has been a bright spot on an otherwise putrid offensive line and has allowed 13 pressures on 350 pass-blocking snaps. He’s also provided support for Barkley and the Giants’ ground game, earning a 67.5 run-blocking grade – the best mark among rookie guards this year.
I think we all know that PFF scores are debatable and he may be the best rookie guard this year but there is no way on earth that allowing 6 sacks through 8 games is "fantastic". Again I am not saying he won't be good but I have not seen "fantastic" at any point this year.

Solder will be the LT regardless next year- hopefully having some room to step up in the pocket will allow Solder to play to his strength, which is taking the edge defender up field past the QB's launching point (rather than stonewalling the defender).
This means C and RT would be the biggest holes. I like Yodny Cajuste from WVU or there are a couple of guys on Wisconsin who I'm going to be keeping an eye on as the draft approaches.
As for FA, it will depend on the cap situation, but I'm intrigued by the idea of taking Daryl WIlliams on a flier deal coming off injury. He is a Gettleman draft pick and was an all-pro last year who likely won't be resigned by the Panthers with the emergence of Moton.
The best overall OL on the market might be Matt Paradis, the Broncos Center.
Ju'Wuan James has potential, but has been a bit inconsistent. He'd be a major upgrade at RT however.
