What If Jason Garret Became The OC Of The NYG?

Eli2020 : 11/6/2018 10:54 am
How would you feel?

Trepidation? Excited? Apathetic? Sad?

I actually think he would succeed here. His offensive scheme is deadly when executed, and is great with creating open space for tight ends and the slot receiver.

What y'alls thoughts?
Nope

get younger, it's time for new ideas.
I'm not sure how great he'd be
santacruzom : 11/6/2018 10:56 am : link
But I'm confident that he'd be at least twice as good as whoever our coordinator in 2019 is.
Jason Garret is the answer to the question...

I want them to "do the opposite" George Costanza style.
Fuck no.
Section331 : 11/6/2018 10:58 am : link
He's not a good HC, he's not a good OC. Maybe a QB coach, that's about it.
Ezekiel Elliott
CromartiesKid21 : 11/6/2018 11:01 am : link
had 96 total yards in the first half.. and then touched the ball 6 times in the 2nd half. The Titans didn't keep Zeke in check.. The Cowboys kept Zeke in check..and that's ridiculous
Why would we
rocco8112 : 11/6/2018 11:02 am : link
change the staff we have now? Clearly they have it all under control?
Agree re Zeke.

Cowboys should have tried to wear down the Titans, but instead they let Titan D stay strong and fresh.
Scheme
AcesUp : 11/6/2018 11:10 am : link
I don't know how anybody can watch that game last night and want Garret, that scheme is one of the reasons why the offense has struggled. The NFL is evolving extremely fast, it has to because of the convergence of new rules and the necessity of NFL coaches to fold in college spread concepts. Some teams and coaches aren't adapting, Garret is one of them.

I don't have a problem scapegoating Shula, although it's hard to say how much is on him, Shurmur and the talent itself. The Panthers offense has actually lost some players on offense since last year, specifically on the OL, yet their offense took an enormous step forward this year with Turner. I'd like to see a more progressive offensive mind at OC to work with Shurmur.
Garret
UConn4523 : 11/6/2018 11:17 am : link
has been one of the biggest coaching failures of this decade considering the talent he's had over the years. I want nothing to do with him.
I'm not saying Garrett is any great shakes
jcn56 : 11/6/2018 11:19 am : link
but who knows what kind of coach he might be without Jones' pulling all the strings. I don't think he's ever really coached a season without heavy interference.
I still remember the playoff game
UConn4523 : 11/6/2018 11:19 am : link
where the Cowboys ran down our throat and then suddenly just stopped running the ball. It may have been the Marion Barber days when he was still an OC but still, he does the same thing a decade later.
Agree that Zeke is the key to that offense and not Dak
GiantBlue : 11/6/2018 11:25 am : link
My God...first....ESPN sure made Amari Cooper as the next coming of Jerry Rice, Randy Moss and OBJ in one! Jerry spoke in the pre-game like he was going to open the heavens, part the Red Sea and cure cancer before the night was over.

He had a nice play or two, but most mostly indistinguishable.

Dak is terrible and to put the ball in his hand to try and win the game is crazy. Zeke, Zeke and more Zeke.....Keep Garrett!
I think he'd be a head coach candidate if we were to fire Shurmur
Go Terps : 11/6/2018 11:29 am : link
Remember, he's in the family.

I think he's a lousy head coach.
Any Romo-era playcalling is irrelevant
Eli2020 : 11/6/2018 11:35 am : link
Tony Romo has adamantly admitted that during those games-including that playoff game with Marion Barber-he would consistently check out of run calls. It was probably his biggest weakness as a QB.

Then we would still suck

Garret is about to get run out of Dallas by Cowboy fans
joe48 : 11/6/2018 12:48 pm : link
Romo carried Garret for a lot years, Now that they have Dak Garret has been unable to put together offensive schemes that support Dak’s skill set. He has lasted as HC because he is a yes man for JJ. Garret has one playoff win in 8 years as a HC.
Garret: good guy, but...
jonnyess : 11/6/2018 2:32 pm : link
look at his body of work...he's not the answer to ANYONE'S problems with offensive production
I don't get Jason Garrett as a solution to anything.
81_Great_Dane : 11/6/2018 2:48 pm : link
BUT:

1) In Dallas, he's not really in charge. Jerruh is.

2) There aren't a ton of hot young coordinators to promote. Shurmur was last year's hot coordinator, though he's not exactly young. Part of the reason retreads get re-treaded is that there isn't enough new coaching talent to go around.
But,

Giant coaches have NONE in 7 seasons! Have I jumped the gun?

If Garrett was on the sidelines the only thing he brings to the table is, we would get more favorable penalties called our way....

I remember when Jerruh was afraid, he might lose his OC, Garret, so he gave him a big raise as an OC, and then hired him as HC......must be a McAdoo thing.....

I was always unsure of Garrett's offense. It's hard to judge when you have an excellent player like Romo. With him gone, they look like crap and I'm not so sure it's just because Dak sucks. Had Romo gotten a line like this in his prime they'd be dangerous.
