So I have this odd smell going on in my kitchen. It smells like moth balls or and old folks home. I cleaned under and behind everything last weekend but its back again. Does this sound familiar to anyone else?
Id check and make sure your dish washer isnt betting backed up. If you have a low hanging line to your sink that can be a problem, it needs to be a high loop.
Naphthalene is present in more than just mothballs, though that is where it is most commonly found, and what its smell is most easily identified with. Tobacco smoke can also contain naphthalene and leave behind an odor similar to mothballs, depending on the type of tobacco product that was smoked. Areas with high pollution tend to have a high concentration of naphthalene in the air. Companies that produce ink, dye, coal, tar, preserve wood or tan leathers also use naphthalene to the point where the smell may be noticeable. If you live near a source of naphthalene, your house may take on a strong mothball type smell.
Coming from? Is it possible your sense of smell is off? I know that's an odd question but I remember when I was in my mid 20's, I was prescribed Adderall, and it eventually made me start smelling some weird smells that weren't there. I assume other medicarions can do that too.
the other day and took out some cash, and immediately when the money was dispensed I got a whiff of old people (what I associate the moth ball smell with) and I guess coincidentally an old person was walking out of the bank at that second so I thought nothing of it.
fast forward to 30 minutes or so later I was home and took money out of my wallet and the cash had an overpowering moth ball smell. I mean overpowering.
all of it and it spread to my wallet, license, credit card etc., my family all smelled the money and almost gagged.
I had to fabreze it, all of it, and throw it in the dryer about 10 times before the smell dissipated and I had to ditch my wallet. It was that bad.
Anyway, check your money. Maybe that's where the smell is coming from.
Still confused with how that cash got old person smell on it.
attributed it to some kind of cleaning product they used. I didnt realize it was the people themselves. I will be 40 in a few months. Maybe Im just smelling myself (the linked article says it starts at 40.)
around the garbage disposal area try, as mentioned above ice cubes along with slices of lemon. Lemon slices also supposedly help keep the blades sharp.
Gas leaks smell different so it shouldnt be that.

I know the dead critter smell all too well. This one is different.

I got a mildewy-type smell when my ice maker broke
Is it possible to check in the walls? Molds are commonly found behind the sheet rock. Just guessing .... btw.
But as said, the dishwasher also gets funky.
Clorox down the drains...
