College Gridiron Showcase - Documentary

kelsto811 : 11/7/2018 8:05 pm
Apologies in advance for the length. This will probably deter readers and posts but even if we get one person's feedback on the Documentary, that's appreciated.

So I was there when the idea for this event was just a seed and not even planted, and now it has grown to be the 3rd largest College All Star Event (200+ players, 150+ Pro Scouts, 60% of players receive NFL opportunities) and most professional scouts I've spoken with peg us a step above the East/West Shrine and #1 in scouting accomodation. Sure theres probably a lot of smoke being blown there, but I'm only a little naive.

The guys we put out there, if you find the right one, that makes a career for some scouts. Off the top of my head, I think the only guy there last year on the Giants current 53 is Jawhil Davis. Jylan Ware is on the PS I believe.

Some random background... We are heading into year 5 and the Senior Bowl sees us a huge threat. We know this since the city of Mobile made a multi-year contingency offer out of the blue to be our official Venue. Crux being the SB is okay with this. We obviously were considering it and viewed it as a potential mutual relationship. They said no and life goes on. On top of that we compete for player talent AND they nabbed Danton Barto from us who was one of our top evaluators. Nice little rivalry but in all seriousness happy for Danton.

Anyway, this honestly isn't meant to be a humble brag/look at me post. I wanted to share something and ask for an honest opinion. We were offered to have a documentary taped on our event last year, and accepted. They are doing a continuation into what will be year 5 for us and year 2 of the doc. I attached a brief trailer below. If you saw this trailer on a video platform you used, would you watch it? Add it to your watchlist? Completely Ignore it? Etc. I assume 99% of people have no idea what this event is and I'm curious if pursuing the doc or looking into a new direction is inevitable.

If anyone has questions or wants to attend, my email is kelsto811@gmail.com. There's no cost to attend and watch. We do have a Scouting Workshop headed by former NFL scouts which costs money. Butnit requires you to pre-register and I'll only provide the link if you email and ask me specifically.

To Sy'56 - If you happen to see this, just want to say that you do spectacular work. I can't say enough good things. I'm not sure if this is an everyday gig for you or where your professional loyalties (if any) lie currently with scouting but I just wanted to let you know that if you were ever looking for an opportunity, I'd be more than happy to get you a scouting credential and into the scouting room. Even if just for attendance...but the networking opportunity alone is worth it as all 32 NFL teams are represented with the majority having 3 or more scouts each. We go from Assistant Scouts all the way up to NFL GM's. I know I saw you on MSG(?) last year so you probably have enough plugs already, but shoot me an email if you were interested at all. Hell, Barto's spot is still open too.

for sure.

I think the trailer looks a little weak, something you would compare to a high school highlight tape. Too many quick glances, not really knowing what the flow is. Would like to see some familiar faces/names of players that have participated in the past that currently play in the league....etc.

Kelsto what is your email?

It's pretty much what I expected to hear. I'm trying to push these guys to properly re-work this without stepping on any toes since this is their field of expertise and also with the understanding they already put a ton of time and effort into it. Truth is it isn't getting picked up by anyone near the level of Netflix if it looks like that.

Shoot me an email. We're in Fort Worth from the 5th-9th.

But I do watch a lot of TV. That looked like they tried too hard to be like the opening of the show Ballers, which isn't really that good (I do like the show)

I would think focusing on some spectacular plays from a name or two that made it to the NFL would be better received.

Seemed like the same 4 or 5 shots through the whole thing. Also looked like it was all offensive sets shown.

Just doesn't grab your attention
