Towards the end when Jimmy offers Karen the Dior dresses - were those guys going to kill her or beat her up/rape her? Or was she spooked for no reason?
be ambiguous. It looks like the guys in the building are just doing work of some type, and their reaction to seeing her in the doorway is one of,"who is this woman and why is she standing there?". They just kind of stop and stare at her.
So you could take it both ways, either Jimmy's desire to clean up loose ends/intimidate Henry, or, Karen's growing paranoia.
...he couldn't have believed she would walk right in there. I felt like he was judging her response.
Of course, I may have over thought it.
Here's an error nobody could notice - truck hijack scene is an actual old Beacon Fast Freight truck. Error is that the logo on the box wasn't used by Beacon until about 1980.
she was rumored to be having an affair with Paul while Henry was in prison
Pretty sure that’s been accepted as fact. Any one of several sites telling the true story talks about that.
I’ve always found it interesting that rumor has it John Gotti and his crew were the ones who whacked Tommy in the infamous scene where he thought he was going to be made.
Now, I’m pretty sure that rumor comes from Henry Hill, so who really knows, but apparently Gotti and Billy Batts were friends, thus Gotti and his crew being the ones to take revenge
but Jimmy says he has the dresses in a store, and when you see the "store," it's not a store at all, but a ramshackle abandoned looking place.
The two guys are not expecting her at all. They see her in her leather skirt and jacket and perk up.
My thought was always that Jimmy didn't have anything planned there. He was being watched closely by the feds so he needed separation from anything that might happen to Karen or Henry. Perhaps he knew the guys down there were scumbags and would do Karen some level of harm, in a sense sending his message without him having worked to send it.
Yeah yeah, just ... go in there Karen. Then he'd walk away and the guys in there would ... whatever.

Completely agree! The viewer is not meant to know for sure.
But Jimmy's reaction, the way he keeps standing there staring down the street, clearly is meant to give you the impression that she had good reason to be afraid, IMO
Only because it was such a piss poor attempt and they never tried again?
If they wanted Karen dead I’d think jimmy would have come up with something a little less transparent and he would not have quit after one attempt. But who knows...
Yeah .... me to. But, I think it is one of those questions that only Scorsese knows the answer to. Kind of like the ending of the Sopranos ... was Tony hit or not?
It is one of those water cooler topics ... that will be (could be) argued forever.

Great point. I read the book over 20 years ago and couldn't recall that part.

My Dad drove for them.
Made sense to kill her, weakest link in the chain

Now I have to turn my back on ya...
