according to Dan Duggan on Twitter -
"Coach Pat Shurmur said the Giants are preparing new RG Jamon Brown as a starter."
Brown started all 16 games for the Rams last season but lost his job this year to Austin Blythe and was cut last week only to be claimed by the Giants. (Multiple teams put in a claim.) Brown is a mauler at 6'4/340 who prefers to run block. If he starts, Brown will replace veteran RG John Greco.

Yeah, if he works out then we only need to find a LT, RT, and Center in the draft/FA....
Make your bets!
I hope the guy can lock down a position on the right side and be a contributor for a long time, but it really shows has poor our existing talent is.
I remember when Tiki was the starting back and the arguments this place had whether his yardage was all on him or not. I think we can all safely say Barkley is doing it alone. I'm sick of the lack of a running game
it would be fantastic. I dont mean to be a debbie downer, but i dont think he will and i feel like its the players as much or equal to the scheme and the coaching...

He was hurt and lost his job. He didn't lose his job cause of his play. A number of teams would have loved to have him. One sad advantage of being 1-7 and first in the waiver wire.

that this guy gets cut by one team, and not only jumps in as a backup immediately with the Giants, but immediately becomes a starter.

A couple of you have said he lost his starting job due to injury. I thought it was the 2 game suspension? I haven't read anything about an injury. Did I miss it?
Per wikipedia (albeit not the most reliable), "On July 3, 2018, Brown was suspended the first two games of the 2018 season for violating the NFL Policy and Program for Substances of Abuse.[5] In his absence, Austin Blythe took over Brown's previous starting role at right guard, and kept the job upon Brown's return from suspension.[6] On October 30, 2018, Brown was waived by the Rams.[7]"
Sounds like a hogmollie to me .....
Strangely enough, I'm more encouraged that it was a 2 game suspension than an injury. Problems with injury has been an issue with our OL.
I think this is a great pickup. I'm hoping they try to at least focus on good to great run blocking OL over pass blockers. Of course, getting someone that does both well would be nice but if they have to choose, run blockers please.
Greco should be moved back to center for a few games. Then Evan Brown should get a shot over the final few games. If it were up to me I would just cut Pulley now and bring in someone else because Pulley is a below average backup.
Ham in Spanish is Jambon, not Jamon.

Greco moved back to center. Spencer sucks. Greco sucks - just less than Spencer. At some point in the season, Evan should see some snaps.

Pat just said in his press conference that if Brown is starting, then "we'll probably stay with pulley at center"

Hopefully, Evan is up to the task because the bar is set low with Spencer. What a shitshow the OL has been.

Pulley has looked real bad. Greco has look slightly less bad....but Pulley is getting pushed back into Eli on almost every snap. Greco wasnt all that great but I believe he sucked less....sad when that the criteria you have use...
I love jamon and queso.

Jamon is cured ham in Spanish. Don't be like that man.
With our recent luck, the guy will play great but is ready to go free agency........

He is only under contract for this year. He'll be a FA. Nothing stopping him from finding greener pasture, but nothing is guaranteed in this league. He has a perfect opportunity to earn a starting job and locking it down. The bar isn't set high here. All he has to do is suck less than the trash that has played before.
Jamon Brown's contract. - ( New Window )
Exactly...he was part of a very dynamic offense last year, starting every game at guard.
Then...he gets in some trouble, suspended....and loses his job. Gets cut w/ due to a numbers game at the trade deadline.
We benefit by being the first to claim...other teams wanted him.
Most likely, he'll be an immediate upgrade.

Sad, but at least they're trying. Under a previous regime we'd maintain and assure ourselves "they will get it figured out, just need time".
As for Monday, I expect a lot of problems due to a lack of chemistry. The final judgment on Brown waits until the end of the season. I'd also like to see E. Brown at center the last few games, but him and Kamrin Moore are permanently tied to the bench.
I mean, it takes time for these guys to learn a new scheme. Especially in our offense. Most OL cannot hit the ground as quickly or naturally as the guys that have been practicing in this offense. His first instinct is likely to be to at least get in the way of the guy in front of him a bit. Takes time to break those kind of habits.

Except, JB is only 25 and not too many years older than some draftees. I would love him to perform well enough to even merit consideration for an “overpaid” contract.
If he performs well, DG should lock him up, go get a good vet Center ( Mitch Morse from KC )and Right Tackle ( Cameron Fleming from Dallas ) and draft a C/G and swing Tackle.
Despite his name, he seems light years better than the ham-and-eggers we currently trot out there. I expect he will be starting quite a few games for us this year. And there is a high probability we sign him for next year.
Which by the way makes me ask, why are useless people called ham-and-eggers. I like ham and eggs...
Sam-I-am, I do like green eggs and ham!
Heck I even like these eggs and ham
if you never had them, despite their looks, they are actually quite delicious.

true
This guy is serviceable and vercitile. We got lucky. I wouldn’t doubt a noticeable improvement in our run game Monday night.
