NFT: This is why some have issues with Jordan Raanan

montanagiant : 11/8/2018 12:58 pm
So he goes on Twitter and posts the following:
Quote:

@JordanRaanan

Eli Manning says he's worried about this week, playing against the 49ers. Of his conversations and the open line of communication with coach Pat Shurmur over the weekend: "It's always good. Communication is important."

9:09 AM - 8 Nov 2018

He got this from a NJ.com article but here is what was said in that article:
Quote:
After 15 seasons and two Super Bowl championships, Manning says he doesn't feel any differently about this week's game than any that came before.

"We worry about this week," Manning said prior to Thursday's practice, when asked if he's worried that Shurmur might make the switch to rookie Kyle Lualetta in the coming weeks. "We have the 49ers. I have a job to do. I'm going to do it to the best of my availability."

So of course on Twitter

So what actually happened is Eli gave his patented good teammate response to the question yet Ranaan presents it completely in a different way but leaves enough ambiguity so he could have some deniability. I know it's not much of a big deal and maybe i'm nitpicking but IMO it illustrates exactly why many think he's nothing but a shit-stirring hack
Raanan sucks
dep026 : 11/8/2018 1:00 pm : link
why is this a mystery to anyone anymore? The best part is he knows he is a certified shit stirrer and doesnt care.

Jordan doesnt know how to spell q-u-a-l-i-t-y.
I don't mind Raanan like others do...
SFGFNCGiantsFan : 11/8/2018 1:01 pm : link
But that's really, really bad. Horrible journalism there.
I've posted before about my dislike for Ranaan

When Ranaan first came to NJ.com
PaulBlakeTSU : 10/11/2018 12:15 pm : link
he created a bullshit poll on Tom Coughlin that still annoys me to this day. He gave the readers five scenarios for what the Giants should do with Coughlin: FOUR of them had Coughlin returning in some capacity, and only one of them had Coughlin going. Naturally, the option with Coughlin going had the most votes, but with only something like 35%. So 65% of the votes were about Coughlin staying.

So the follow up article had the headline: "Readers Choice: Tom Coughlin Should Walk Away from the Giants". I know that editors often write the headlines, but if you read the follow-up piece about the results, you wouldn't have known that most Giants fans wanted Coughlin to stay.

Towards the end of his NJ.com tenure, I thought he improved and put out some good stuff. Once he went to ESPN, he reverted to clickbait crap.
Hopefully Ranaan comes on here to defend himself
RobCarpenter : 11/8/2018 1:04 pm : link
And troll us.

I had followed him on twitter to get news on the Giants but then I realized how god awful he is and stopped.
Raanan..

also has a case of rabbit ears.

He'll likely respond here and try to spin it in some different way.

I'm with Paul. As soon as he left for ESPN, he would rather generate clicks than actual reporting.

He's basically just a fucking hack.
He works for four-letter network.
Racer : 11/8/2018 1:07 pm : link
If he went back to the more constructive style he had with NJ.com they'd fire him.
Why is anyone surprised?
Jay on the Island : 11/8/2018 1:08 pm : link
He works for ESPN. They always try to twist things to create drama for clicks.

Giantophile : 11/8/2018 1:26 pm : link
flagrantly bad journalism.

At best its complete incompetence(I'm not that naive) and at worst he he zero credibility after that tweet. I never thought he was that bad, but wow, what a loser.

I get what you are saying. However, his job and income are based on clicks. It is throughout all journalism now. It is part of the reason there is such a divide in this country. Hate and anger is good business for the media, it is why they encourage it. They are not judged on the quality of the article, instead it is the number of clicks. Us talking about him here, even negatively, is good for him. It is why he trolls us at times.
As mentioned several times
figgy2989 : 11/8/2018 1:35 pm : link
He is a terrible beat reporter. What type of hair products do you use again Jordan? That was a hot topic for him during training camp.

As some have mentioned, he had gotten a bit better towards the end of his NJ.com tenure, but he was basically leveraging that to get to ESPN where he has mailed it in ever since.

There is a reason the guys in the Giants locker room don't like him and he has to use other reporters stories to write his own. He must get clicks for his bull shit writing, otherwise, he should have been part of the last ESPN mass layoff.
I also find it comical
figgy2989 : 11/8/2018 1:38 pm : link
That he comes on here. You know he is refreshing this thread as we speak.

everything he does is not worth paying attention to.

Tweet is an awkward summary of the quote, makes it seem like Eli is particularly worried about the 49ers when his point was he is just focused on this week

That said, it was a tweet, likely quickly fired off in between meetings or assignments. I don’t think it was done to intentionally stir the pot

So if you give him the benefit of the doubt, he's not malicious, just an amateur and careless.

Yeah, I kinda agree. In this instance.
My Favorite Raanan moment
Gmen88 : 11/8/2018 2:00 pm : link
Was when he was hammering his guys pre-draft a couple years ago and then freaked out when they didn't draft one of them. Realizing he had no sources must have hurt. What a hack.
....
Kmitch83 : 11/8/2018 2:04 pm : link
There is no real journalism anymore. All these guys care about is clicks on a site or getting as many re-tweets as possible. Every "beat" reporter is a complete hack.

Come on, he purposely took what Eli said out of context and painted it in a completely different way. If this was Ranaan's first time pulling this kind of crap I would agree with you but he has a proven track record of pulling this shit

I'm not sure that has any rational meaning. If he takes the day off, he won't do his job?
From Eli’s transcript:
BBelle21 : 11/8/2018 3:40 pm : link
Q: When we asked Pat (Shurmur) about your status for this week, he said you’re starting, but wouldn’t guarantee anything beyond that. What was your reaction to that?
A: You worry about this week. We got the 49ers. I got a job to do, and I’m going to do it to the best of my ABILITY.

Jordan sucks
That is such shoddy, irresponsible and pathetic "reporting"

Between meetings? What meetings? He's a reporter, not an executive. He doesn't get the benefit of the doubt about firing off a ham-handed tweet as he's racing down the hallway to a meeting at his job - the tweet is part and parcel of the job itself.

I’m sure he has espn staff meetings and scheduled interviews for stories and that he’s trying to get the message out quickly rather than delaying it and wordsmithing it like he would for a full article. There is a much lower bar for accuracy on Twitter given the character limitations

I’m not debating that it was sloppy, clear the tweet did not accurately convey the quote. Whether it was intentional or careless is inconclusive

Both are bad looks for a paid journalist and intentional is worse IMO, but not by much.
It's probably intentional

Just that there is a bar for truth (not to mention that we are supposed to accept that) is horrfic and shows why there is no such thing as journalism.
