Why does Antonio Brown not get the same negative attention

bhill410 : 11/8/2018 2:03 pm
As Odell? If within the last three month Odell threw furniture out of a high rise condo window almost hitting a little kid, called the cops over his car being stolen and then slammed door in their face when they showed up, had multiple tantrums on sideline when not having it thrown to him and got cited for driving over 100mph this place would be in meltdown mode. These are isolated incidents with Brown either, he has been a much bigger malcontent than Odell but never gets criticized nationally for it. Blows my mind.

And this wouldn't happen to Brown here, because Brown would never make it this far with his diva antics.

in New York. The New York media turns anything into a story. Also, Odell is just WAY more popular than AB is. That's not a knock on him at all, it's just fact. Odell is a superstar with the younger demographic.
Couple reasons:
Keith : 11/8/2018 2:06 pm : link
1. They win
2. OBJ gets caught in the crossfire when Giants fans defend Eli.
3. He's not quite as excentric as Odell.
...
26.2 : 11/8/2018 2:06 pm : link
Because of the Carolina game. That game put the asshole-OBJ on full display and it didn't go away. AB didn't have a game like that.
I think people are ok with football players being thugs

but have a problem with them being whatever you want to classify Odell as (i'll leave the description up to you)

Also the Steelers are winning (compared to the Giants)

The point OP is trying to make is Brown has done a laundry list of things quite worse.

AJ Green did.
It is unfair towards OBJ
montanagiant : 11/8/2018 2:14 pm : link
But the difference is that all of OBJ's actions that have been scrutinized endlessly happened on National TV seen by millions.

Sure he got heat over the boat deal but mainly because he played like shit the next day. Also, the coke in the hotel room with that chic died out pretty quickly in comparison to the kicking net incident.

They are much worse but I think the point is that what OBJ catches the most shit about is what he does on National tv. Also just as it starts to let up on him he goes and does something stupid again (peeing like a dog) on TV which allows the talking heads to review all the other stuff from the past
I think much of it has to do

with a straw man argument that isn't there.

People who defend Beckham constantly feel the need to compare his actions to other morons across the league, when the simple answer is, those other guys are morons too.

Is Antonio Brown a bigger idiot then Beckham? Yes. Maybe people around here don't say it as much because they're not Pittsburgh Steelers fans? Just a hunch.

Brown is a better player. Better receiver, much better punt returner as we've found out this year.
Uh, Brown gets dinged quite a bit...
bw in dc : 11/8/2018 2:38 pm : link
Made national news for quite a number of days when he video taped the Steelers locker room after a win. He was goofing around while Tomlin was delivering the post-game speech.

I am no Brown defender
jvm52106 : 11/8/2018 2:39 pm : link
by any means but, he produces on the field far more regularly than OBJ. At the same time, OBJ tends to make a "weird" scene when he does have issues and they tend to attract the more attention because of the manner in which they occur.
Man, can you imagine
Keith : 11/8/2018 2:43 pm : link
OBJ with Big Ben and that offense? He'd put up insane numbers. He's been stuck in this brutal offense for the past 3 years and still puts up stud numbers. Odell is as good as any WR in football and he's just a baby compared to AB(I guess in more ways than 1?). He did allow that one punt to hit him in the leg though, so obviously he sucks.

NYC & they also suck so more negative attention

Same reason why Eli Manning is graded so harshly for better or worse.

Or why any premiere MLB FA struggles so often in NYC.

I get the Burgh vs NY to a point. The fact that if this were OBJ it would be a ESPN headline and free for all from the loud mouths on their shows. Yet it will be a blip on ESPN’s radar is a disconnect for me. Again the Burgh news ouylets are tame in comparison so that delta is understandable. But ESPN would blow this story up if it were OBJ and probabynot so much for AB.
Because he's in Pittsburgh...

I think one major contributing factor..
EricJ : 11/8/2018 3:29 pm : link
in addition to what was already mentioned here is that two of Odell's incidents happened on the field and the TV cameras caught the incidents and were played over and over again.

The meltdown with the net and also the spearing with his helmet incident when he basically lost his mind fighting with Josh Norman for the entire game.
I don't buy the NY media spotlight
MBavaro : 11/8/2018 3:30 pm : link
theory anymore. That was definitely the case 10-15 + years ago. Now, there are hundreds of national media people, and dozens of media outlets, able to look at anything anyone does nationally, and send their take on it to everyone nationally instantaneously.

The fact that AB doesn't get scrutinized as much has very little to do with the fact that he isn't in New York. Not any more. I'm not sure what the reason is......
I've been saying for years
longlive#10 : 11/8/2018 3:31 pm : link
Antonio is like the same person as Odell... except worse.

Their demeanor and personality traits are very similar, but I think Odell is actually much smarter in the way he carries himself (more class)

It is crazy how Antonio doesn't get nearly as much negative attention as Odell. I will never begin to understand or even try to understand blatant double standards.

This is an interesting dynamic.. Desean Jackson, Pacman Jones, Asante Samuel, Aquib Talib etc.

Yeah you're fine.

Odell dances and takes out anger on inanimate objects sometimes.. crucify him!
The answer...
BigBlueinChicago : 11/8/2018 4:13 pm : link
Because the Pittsburgh Steelers win games. A lot of them. They make the playoffs. A lot of the time.

That is why he gets minimal negative attention. End of answer.

Is that fair? Probably not. But it's what it is.

If the Giants over the last 5 years were a perennial playoff team, the Odell "stuff" would not be much of an issue.

But when the team is 6-10? 3-13? 1-7? The focus changes on every little thing that may contribute to the team losing regardless of whether it's true or not.

In the last 13 games Odell has started, the Giants are 1-12 with the "drama" (if you want to call it that).

They will never be treated on equal footing on this extra stuff as long as one guy is on a playoff team and the other is on a team picking annually top 10 in the draft.

Josh Norman is a scum bag. But there could have been some serious damage if OBJ connected fully. I don’t mind going after a player but that was a scumbag move by OBJ. If roles were reversed and Norman did that to OBJ... the reaction here would be quite different.

There are several New York dailies, all in competition with each other, and constantly comparing this team to the other team in town. They live to stir shit up NTTAWWT, and they have to- that's what keeps it interesting.
In Pittsburgh and other markets, the media IDOLIZES their one successful sports team. Instead of getting in their face and testing their durability, the media picks them up and celebrates them.

Get over yourself. If that's the worst choice he makes then I say good. He's a great football player, loves his teammates and they love him and most of all he wants to win badly. He has never ever just mailed it in no matter what the score. The guy always gives 150% and those are the type of players this team needs. So what if he has a billion tattoos, freaky hair and an earing the guy always comes to play

You just described every national media outlet. This is no longer a NY phenomenon. And all of the recent OBJ drama I've seen, I found it on Foxsports, CBS sports, ESPN, Yahoo Sports, Barstool, etc......

Norman brought that on himself, him and his buddy should've been ejected before the game even started.

Only thing regretabble about that hit is that it didn't end Normans career. Fuck him.

Classy. Moments like these I tend to disassociate from Giants fans.

Fans who actually believe the panthers were going to hit with him a bat before the game in the middle of the field make me wonder sometimes....
