This.

Wasn't he unsigned until just before camp??
Not that I put much stock in PFF

But according to them we have the worst 2 OTs starting for us. Not as a group but rather as individual players.

Anybody can use the eyeball test and realize that so moves like this can improve our team which is really just sad.
One key question
TD : 11/9/2018 6:41 am : link
1) Is he ambulatory?

If the answer is yes, DG will sign him. Another DG HOG MOLLY!
Sign the castoffs!

That'll get OL better..[reasons why they get cut/waived]
He was released at the cutdown to 53.
Diver_Down : 11/9/2018 6:51 am : link
But he resigned with Atlanta when they had some injuries. He has been around the league playing for Atlanta, Jacksonville, and Cleveland. He is still only 27. He will be a UFA next year.

The question is do the Giants want to continue with the Wheeler experiment in the hope that he is improving and will progress into a reliable RT? Or do you claim Austin and see if he can do the job for the remaining games?

Agreed.

Former CFL player... He's been cast off by the Vikings, Jaguars, Browns and now the Falcons. Seems like trading one turnstile for another isn't going to make things any better.

the difference between very bad and awful isn't that much.
From what I remember reading about this guy
jcn56 : 11/9/2018 7:40 am : link
who was supposedly in demand when a FA last time around (after the Browns), he was more promising as a guard than a tackle.

If you're looking at it strictly as an OT, the question you ask isn't is he better than Solder or Wheeler, it's is he better than the guys behind them.
He cant possibly
cjac : 11/9/2018 7:47 am : link
be worse than Wheeler. However if he was available back in September there had to be a reason the giants didnt have him in for a look.
I have been beating the drum for Pasztor for a while. Even a mediocre
Ivan15 : 11/9/2018 7:56 am : link
O-lineman would be an improvement. Sign him and send Mahalik back to the practice squad. When you are 1-7, you can’t have too many G-Ts.
So sad that it has

5BowlsSoon : 11/9/2018 8:26 am : link
It has come to this.......

I can still remember the time when many of us were drooling over The prospect Wheeler can bring to the table.
I think it was last off-season where
Simms11 : 11/9/2018 8:44 am : link
people were clamoring to sign him. Reese was still making those decisions however. Could be good depth signing, but he’s not the answer at tackle.
27 years old, 43 career starts, primarily at RT
sjnyfan : 11/9/2018 8:52 am : link
I don't think there's much of a decision here. He's better than both Wheeler and Mihalik an he has OL versatility, which neither of them do
small incremental changes
section125 : 11/9/2018 9:10 am : link
can lead to improvements.

They need a center badly.

micky, what other option do we have? Hope and pray that the players we currently have turn the corner?

Yes, its unlikely players signed mid-season after being cut will amount to much, but in the NFL you never know.

This is lazy analysis. Some teams have more depth at certain positions than other teams, and not all cuts are due to a player sucking (salary, age, injury, etc). While I wouldn't advise looking to the waiver wire to fill all your needs, you can pick up the occasional gem.

At this point, Austin and Jamon are 8 game rentals as they both are UFAs next year. Some might say that it will stunt the development/confidence of Wheeler to be replaced by what amounts to a tryout player. Who cares? The players saw the opportunity this offseason - knowing that there are few entrenched starters (Solder by nature of his contract and Hernandez by his draft status). The bar is set low based on the past half decade of futility. All they had to do was show competency and they could lock up a position for the future. They failed. Yes, we are at the point of slinging shit against the wall to see if it sticks. If that hurts Wheeler's feelings, tough shit.
is this the

PFF does have Wheeler as their absolute worst rated OT.

But their grade for Solder is actually pretty decent: 71.3, #23 in the league.

He was available during the preseason when the Falcons cut bait the first time. They re-signed him after some injuries.
They should bring him in
AcesUp : 11/9/2018 10:31 am : link
Some of the guys starting for us should probably be on waivers, they're the same caliber player. The Giants should be trying out as many players and combos as possible in the hopes of finding 1-2 guys that could:

1) Upgrade the OL enough to possibly get some sort of evaluation out of Lauletta in December
2) Maybe find 1-2 players that could be a factor next year - whether that is a longterm starter, 1 year bandaid, or depth/competition.
I think the league is taking pity on the Giants
SHO'NUFF : 11/9/2018 11:56 am : link
and throwing them a bone.
The Giants
PaulBlakeTSU : 11/9/2018 2:07 pm : link
should bring in literally every single offensive lineman that is let go by another team.
Some of you are hilarious
Jint Fan in Buc Land : 11/9/2018 9:28 pm : link
You guys realize there is not a limit on how many ol you can bring in and our ol sucks right? Maybe you're afraid he'll slow the progress of all the up and coming guards and tackles we have lol
