LT: Alejandro Villanueva, UDFA cut by Eagles, signed with Steelers in 2014
LG: Ramon Foster, UDFA Steelers 2009
C: Maurkice Pouncey, 1st Round Steelers 2010
RG: David DeCastro, 1st Round Steelers 2012
RT: Marcus Gilbert, 2nd Round Steelers 2011
Such a stark contrast with our team in terms of drafting guys that are not only good enough to remain on the roster for multiple contracts, but can accumulate so many starts together. They got a little bit of luck with Villanueva, but credit to their personnel staff and coaches for seeing and developing a pro bowl LT in a castoff defensive end.
We've got a ways to go.
And the Steelers hire very good, dependable coaches - like Mike Munchak.
I will now sit back and enjoy as the Eli Army shows up to say BR is only as good as he is because of the talent around him...

Considering hes never carried them, it's a valid argument.
They spent a greater part of his career with elite defenses.
Pathetic

Just to fulfill your prophecy....
...BR is only as good as he is because of the talent around him...
True. The O Line plays as one. Just like our 2005-2010 line.
I didn't use the word special anywhere, but "Nothing special" has yielded multiple pro bowls and a group that allows them to run their whole playbook. We're a long ways from that.

He's mocking a poster on another thread that made that assertion

haha I know. someone last night in the game threads said Pouncey was nothing special despite being a near HOF lock right now.
2014 Richburg C 2nd Rd Draft Pick, didn't work out
2015 Floweres LT 1st Rd Draft Pick, didn't work out
2018 Solder LT 62 Million Free Agent, didn't work out
There is a clear distinction between the two teams. The Giants have invested in there line, just like the Steelers have. The difference is Pittsburgh has hit on there picks, while the Giants have not...

The Giants reached or overpaid for everyone of those as well.
So they have a winning record with usually a scrub QB playing? Wow. Goes to show how theres more than just QB play that goes into an offense. Thanks for proving my point all along.
Charlie Batch: 9 starts
Tommy Maddox: 2 starts
Dennis Dixon: 3 starts
Byron Leftwich: 1 start
Michael Vick: 3 starts
Landry Jones: 5 starts
Ben is a great QB who elevates talent around him. But, boy, has he been in an excellent situation on the whole.
When was the last time we saw anything resembling any of this?

Haha. I came into this thread just to look for this. Awesome.

Ah gotcha. Totally went over my head.
The Steelers are one of the best drafting teams in the league. Arguably the best drafting team in the league over the last 20 odd years.
Look at how they’ve churned the WR position the last 15 years without burning premium picks or going nuts in FA. Look at what they’ve done at the RB position. Always committed to the OL and front 7 on defense.

That’s true, but it doesn’t tell the entire story.
The Steelers have a luxury item with Roethlisberger at QB. His ability to make plays in and out of the pocket is extraordinary, especially for his size. He has skills that are transferable to any era.
This is a player on the verge of being one of the top ten QBs of all time. If gets a third SB, that will be sealed.
Isnt it ironic that Ben's best football came when the dominant line came? If you took Bens numbers from 2004-2012 and then look from 2013 on when their OL has been awesome.... you will see staggering results.
Munchak is a brilliant OL coach.
