Anybody remember this? Long story short, I went to see Chris Stapleton last weekend out of town with my wife. Great show. Anyways, on the way home, we're in the car and my wife suggests we listen to a podcast with an interview with Chris Stapleton. We settle on a Joe Rogan interview because Bobby Bones is completely annoying.
Anyways... They're getting into this conversation about being manipulated by the music business, not being your true self, and Joe Rogan (hilariously to me, been laughing about it since) mentions the time that Garth Brooks "put on a wig and tried to be that other dude", which they both chuckle. Chris Stapleton is completely cool and not wanting to put Garth Brooks down, but he is clearly amused and trying to keep his amusement under wraps. Anyways, here is the clip of from that part of the interview:

Party Off, Garth: The Short Life And Long Death Of Chris Gaines - ( New Window )
I mean, they did a Behind the Music on this fictional dude, and Garth Brooks hosted SNL but performed as Chris Gaines.
It was like he was trying to be a white Prince. It was so bizarre.
Hey grandpa, it was 1999. I think most of us remember it.

and I wasn't even into country music when it happened, but I remember it

I can never tell on this board, anymore.
Seems Chris Gaines would be more likely to do that.

I thought he was pretty funny when he hosted SNL
He had a segment where Tracy Morgan was making fun of how gay he thought that Chris Gaines character was while Garth weakly defended "him"
At least he had a sense of humor about it
