Max Unger vs Clint Sintim

wonderback : 11/9/2018 3:37 pm
It's a crappy, crummy day in New York. I'm bored and pissed that another Giant season has gone down the drain. In a bad mood. This pick has been pissing me off for years. We still haven't found a center. We picked this ridiculous tweener instead of Unger. I was annoyed then and, given the state of our offensive line, I'm even more annoyed now. Just had to vent.
Hmmmmm,

I thought Morgan Freeman did a convincing job as president at the time.
And plenty of people here defended it at the time.

Because he was just a center. We all know how easy it is to get a center in this league. Not worth a high draft choice.

Nine years and counting andI'm still waiting

I did too Britt. I for one prefer that Doomsday masterpiece over Harry Stamper's constantly breaking AJ's balls.
Affleck was the bomb in Phantoms, though.

What if Unger busted on the Giants because developing and coaching the Offensive Line is the issue and not the athletes?
We could have had our center
chopperhatch : 11/9/2018 3:51 pm : link
but we traded him away for what? A 7th?
I agree

I'm still trying to figure that one out. Can't wait to see who we draft in the 7th round. Can you? Can anybody?

I think that was the biggest head scratcher of the offseason for DG. Over the Stewart and Omameh signings even. He was a solid Center and better than Halapio in my opinion.

Worst part it wasn’t really a super high pick. Never mind the That the Giants ran a 4-3 and he was a 3-4 LB. The now closeted Reese fans on this site still think he was a good GM. The refrain there were players there and they picked mantra is then repeated. Yeah. Max Vs Clint.

I’ll leave two more to show why Reese was incompetent and had zero clue about OL.

Glenn Vs Wilson.( forget the injury) they needed a tackle. Bad.
Engram over Ramzyck or Robinson. Needs a tackle worse. And Engram sucks. Thought he would be ok. Reese won’t get another sniff as a GM. Another joke that we heard if he was canned

Reese was an arrogant ass. That he got so much cover here is sad.
2013 another good center was available

Couldn’t be. No good linemen exist. Never available when on the Clock. Cant pass up Those great athletes Jerry loved. Unicorns are more common than a Giant OL that doesn’t suck. Since Snee I’m praying Hernandez develops

Let's hope that's not true about Gettleman. So far, year 1 has been a fiasco. Don't know how much more of this crummy line play I can take.
I knew that was a shit pick from the beginning

and the only pick I'm sure was based on a personal relationship with the coach.

for Barrett Jones from Alabama in 2013. He was the top rated OC in the draft.. he never panned out either, but Im a fan and Reese did this for a living

2 picks...
Sintim was the
Pete in MD : 11/9/2018 4:45 pm : link
first pick on day 2 (under the old set-up.) I remember hearing Phil Savage, who with the Ravens at the time, saying on the radio that Clint was the highest rated guy on their draft board on the second day and they considered trading up to get him. He fit better in a 3-4.
This does sum up the biggest weakness of the last decade

Hmmm. Then why didn't he go to a 3-4 defense and excel?
And how about that Time they Passed on Tom Brady!!!!!

Remember when they drafted Travis Beckum to play H-Back, even though Gilbride's offense never involved such a player?

The idea held that in cold weather, Beckum would be a very useful player because the wind had held up a number of Manning's passes in 2008 when the passing offense stumbled. Of course, he was way to small to play TE, he never played out of the backfield, and was nothing more than a waste of space.

Because he wrecked his knee.

Sintim was a helluva pass rushing 3-4 OLB who was completely miscast as a 4-3 SAM. If he had been drafted by the Steelers (and been healthy), he would have been a quality player. He was the very definition of a square peg in a round hole on the Giants.
Wahoo piece of trash.

LeSean McCoy was taken after Sintim too. I was screaming for either

him or Unger.
vividly remember Sintim's 'highlights' footage
ColHowPepper : 11/10/2018 9:44 am : link
he was slow, too slow picking his way toward the RB, had difficulty clearing through traffic, little to no quickness, and no explosion on impact. He was not athletic.

Yet, for years, the defenders of the R&R creed, said he would have made it big but for his injury. Well, yeah, 'big' in the James Brewer scholarship mode.
That was a rough pick
Jay on the Island : 11/10/2018 9:49 am : link
Reese not only passed on Unger and McCoy but also G Andy Levitre, Phil Loadholt, Sebastian Vollmer, and Connor Barwin.

As for Sintim,
Doomster : 11/10/2018 11:24 am : link
who can ever forget his only sack when no one blocked him?

Saying that he would have excelled in a 3-4, rather than a 4-3, is ludicrous.....the guy was slow, overpowered no one, slow to react, and I have no idea what the Giants were thinking when they drafted him....

How the hell could Reese have been so bad from '11 to '17?

Because he was just that bad, could've gave him 20 years and the results would remain the same
I remember when Sintim

was drafted - many MANY folks here on BBI first guessed it as a bad fit our defense at the time and they were proven right.

What's sad is that Sintim's best year can't sniff Hosely's worst. And that's the guy you choose to bring up?

What's even sadder than the fact that Sintim flamed out (even before the injury) is your blind hate for VA Tech. Maybe you'll get redemption this year. Or maybe it'll be like the last 14 years. You know which outcome I'm rooting for.
