Dep is being a bit dramatic but point remains Giants have gotten killed thus far with that deal...
Hindsight is 20/20. It's nonsense to pretend that Gettleman should have known Solder would be as bad as he's been. And it's a dick move to be outraged that he's cutting Omameh. Are you with dep that we should be jumping on DG for this move?
Easy...not sure where you are going with this but back down with your pitchfork. Solder got a shitload of money like most overrated free agents. Yes, I know he was, or may have been one of the better options available but I can criticize any damn move made that I want. And this one is clearly critical-worthy...
It is his work as a whole with FAs. Solder, Omameh, Stewart, etc. sucked but part of that is the position we are in. No player is coming here via FA for equal or less money. Shitty teams have to overpay. That is just reality.
The good news is we capitalized where it matters and that is in the draft. We just have to keep that going. When it comes to FA now we have to find bargains. We cannot be players in the first wave of FA. It is too expensive. See what players are still around that teams aren't going hard after initially and get players for cheaper values and see what sticks. It is okay to miss on FAs. It is just much more difficult to deal with when the contract is huge.
In the league needs TE help.... it kind of proves my point. Doesn’t it? Lol.
You guys are all right. Solder has been solid this year and his contract isn’t bad. It’s Eli’s fault and he isn’t getting help. That’s all... lol.
No....it really doesnt...you thick, loudmouthed simpleton. You are suggesting that the contract of a guy who plays every game is worse than contracts that were signed by teams on players with a noted injury history that miss significant time as the worst in history.
Dont you tire of people pointing out to you that you're brain-dead?
Lol. Who’s throwing the tantrum now.
Calm down buddy. This isn’t the end of the world.
Im not throwing the tantrum. Im sitting here eating a sandwich and sneering at your nonsense as you innundate us with lols as if you are above the rest of us.
Solder is having a bad year. But I guess calling him the worst contract of all time is incredibly logical after half a season.
Whether it’s about Eli, a fantasy player, the Bulls, etc you really dig on on what you like and don’t like and don’t budge. You double and triple down and then get mad when people don’t agree with you.
No I don’t care if people disagree with me. What I find funny is when I give an opinion that people take personal shots or bring up history on non related topics and just hurl insult after insult.
Dep is being a bit dramatic but point remains Giants have gotten killed thus far with that deal...
For sure. But it’s thus far. Let’s see it play out. But being billed the worst contact in history is completely agenda based and honestly not worth responding too.
What does cutting Omameh have to do with the Solder signing? I have no problem criticizing Gettleman for his misses in FA, but this isn't a thread that would seem to warrant that reaction. This is one where we say, "well, at least he can admit when he misses".

Agreed. But keep in mind what has happened with oline is at core of most problems so threads sometimes drift as you know within the same conversation.
He had a terrible first free agency period with the Giants but instead of hanging onto Omameh in hopes that he plays better next season, possibly under a new OL coach, in order to justify the signing he admitted his mistake and now the Giants will receive another 4th round pick in return. Reese would have hung onto Omameh.

I’m speaking only for myself, not interested in name calling. Just seems odd how far you go on things that are still going to take a long time to play out. Add in how much you defend Eli no matter what and it shouldn’t be difficult to see why people find some of your posts to be ludicrous.
To put on my optimism hat (whoops, i may have thrown it away) Â
I used to think that, until we started reading about how bad his communications are on the line. You can't slot someone between C & RT who can't communicate

Chopper asked me a question and I answered it. He didn’t like my opinion and went on a tangent. I’ll back my opinion as much as possible.
I really could care less if I am right or wrong. I don’t think Solder is or was a good signing. His play this year has been deplorable. So when you put together his play plus his contract, I have no problem with my original statement. Is it too early to say it? Probably... but maybe it does come true?
But look what’s being said. Just terrible things. I mean people are even bringing up Eli as a reason why I am wrong. Just madness.
But I always liked and respected you... so I actually will listen to what you say. But some of these other posters... I feel sorry for them.
Would anyone want Ereck Flowers back on this team in any capacity?? Complete cancer, an idiot, and was clearly not serious about playing professional football.

damn Chop...I sounded good in that Solder signing thread.

Is Gettleman is running this team like it's a Yahoo fantasy football team.
Maybe we should limit his allowed waiver moves?
Are you suggesting he should have held on to him? Or that he shouldn’t be trying to add players at all?
Wtf? Are you Omamehs mother? It’s the only explanation...And fwiw, Mrs. Omameh, your son fucking sucks so stop whining about him getting dumped for a waiver wire claim. Instead of asking the league to change the rules to protect your son, how about telling him to play better?
You're a joke.
Gettleman missed on all of his FA signings.
Great he figured it out, awesome.
It was a bad signing, like every other one he made this year.
I only hope Mara cuts bait as quick.
RE: RE: Let’s pause to remember our Sr VP of player personnel Â
Chris Mara specializes in NFL free agents. That’s his area of experience. He’s doing a great job.
This might explain why the draft was as good as the FA signings were bad. DG is ultimately responsible for every draft pick and FA signing, but he also has to rely on the opinions of other people. This FA debacle will hopefully convince him that like Ross, Mara should not be one of those people.
He can't fire Mara.
I'm more and more of the opinion that Reese largely, since Mara was "promoted" in 2011, gave wide leeway to his roster ideas.
You are over top with the DG talk. He’s not the laughing stock of the laught. He has had a good track record in free agency in the past. Yes this was not a good year for him but no one would have ever imagined Solder playing so bad.
Also people seem to just overlook the fact that he seemed to have a really good draft as it appears so far. And good drafting is what will make this a good team that stays good, not free agency.
And if we have learned anything, we have learned that no matter how good your skill players are, you cannot and will not win with a horrible line. I truly believe even with an avg line this time would be in playoff contention
Will this give the Giants an additional compensatory draft pick ?
Based upon “over the cap” the Giants may be able to get an additional 5 th round pick
Yes I believe this guarantees the giants an extra comp pick... I had said a couple weeks ago to expect this to get the comp pick.

I couldn't even get through all the anger in the thread above.
My 2 cents' worth on this: We are seeing much more accountability for the players in this regime. O-line stinks? Flowers, gone. Omameh, gone. At least they are identifying problems and getting rid of them. The last regime seemed to be stuck in "Well, there's nobody better available, so we might as well stick with the guys we have."
The new regime seems to think "This guy's playing like crap. Let's move on and try someone else. What the hell, we can finish last without him."

Much better IMO.
Fans are going to be grouchy when their team continues losing. Gettleman's accountability is very peculiar: he gets rid of the better players and the lower players. Sometimes he replaces a decent player with a lower-talent player. Personally, I don't think DG knows what he's doing.

Besides Fluker for Omameh what better player did he get rid of that he replaced with lesser players? Fluker left via free agency and he wasn't a big loss as some make him out to be. Flowers was a cancer and had to be cut. He was playing very poorly at RT anyway so there was no decline by inserting Wheeler.

Funny thing about Fluker is he would have been helpful with Barkley selection. Some extreme arrogance and incompetence assuming the current unit could run block and pass block.

Omameh was supposed to be a better version of Fluker but he was just a lesser version.
Talent evaluation continues to be a massive, massive problem.
This right here. Making a mistake and correcting it isn't the worst thing in the world. It seems like it has been an offseason of mistakes, following what have been 5 years of them, with a brief hiatus in between.
It still looks to me like the Giants have a scouting problem, one not limited to college personnel. I'm less taken back by the fact that Omameh was signed and then cut than the possibility that the next moves are just as bad if not worse.
As for Omameh - if he and Solder were plan B, have a look at Norwell. He's been doing poorly in Jax. So that's two we signed, and one we had interest in - and none of them have amounted to crap. And Norwell doesn't have the excuse of playing on the Giants shitty line, where you could at least blame linemates or coaching on underperformance.
It really looks like our plans centered around three players who at the end of the day have proven to be worthless.
