Herbert has not looked good at all these past few games
Which is exactly why so many of us had a problem with passing on a QB last year. I have no idea what will become of Herbert and Grier (or Darnold and Rosen for that matter)...but the fact that many of us on this board could see Eli was finished last year and the bright minds in the Giants organization couldn't is nauseating.
Is not an NFL caliber QB. He is another Brock Osweiler. He has the tools just doesn’t have the ‘it’ factor and it’s not something you can teach. His own coaching staff doesn’t even trust him. BBI needs to get over its infatuation with him.

If you don't love a QB, you don't love a QB. Can't force it. I actually liked Herbert more than Darnold, Rosen and Allen, but it's clear to me that the real franchise, transcendent QBs will be coming out in the coming years (Tua, Trevor Lawrence, Justin Fields...)

That is fair. If that is our reality, then the Giants should do everything in their power to get one of them, even if it means another awful season in 2019. Cut Eli, and play Lauletta in 2019. If he surprises, great, if not, we suck and get a shot at one of those guys.

Based on what?
Watch the way they’ve called games the past 3-4 weeks. Every big situation they run the ball unless it’s a mandatory passing situation. They don’t put the ball in their QB’s hands when they need a play. When you have a star that you trust, on any level of football, those are the guys you trust and give the ball to. The fact that Oregon doesn’t do that with Herbert (at all) speaks volumes to me.

It would mean sucking for at least two years to get Lawrence or Fields. Those two are freshmen.

The coaching has been awful. As far as I'm concerned that's the only thing that this is an indication of. Teams have been daring Oregon to run the ball which they haven't been able to do, putting them in third and long. Mitchell is the only half decent receiving threat so teams blanket him and the other guys don't get separation.
Herbert is raw, his footwork and mechanics needs work. He's far from a polished prospect but Brock Osweiler? C'mon.

Which the giants will miss out on
RE: The Giants had multiple people at WVU's game today as well. Â
had more to do with his physical attributes than anything.
He has a bigger arm than Darnold
He's much more mobile than Rosen
He's way more accurate than Allen (then again, so is Jamarcus Russell...kidding but not really)
I thought he looked A LOT better last year than he does this year (just like Darnold looked lightyears better in 2016 than he did in 2017). He obviously had Royce Freeman back there to take some of the load off and he also lost his LT, Crosby, to the NFL, but I can't really understand why he has taken a step back.
RE: RE: The Giants had multiple people at WVU's game today as well. Â
From what I’m seeing here, Herbert is not looking very good. Would be more if the same if true. As I’ve said, the kid hasn’t impressed me much, if at all, this fall. Let Gruden take him. I’ll take the edge rusher.
Is not an NFL caliber QB. He is another Brock Osweiler. He has the tools just doesn’t have the ‘it’ factor and it’s not something you can teach. His own coaching staff doesn’t even trust him. BBI needs to get over its infatuation with him.
Wait, you think Herbert is a BBI creation? Lol. Unbelievable. I’d suggest you do some research on the amount of NFL personnel that have been regularly attending his games. Are they all BBIers?

Nope literally never said that. But plenty of BBI makes excuses for his shitty performances and still wish for him to be the #1 overall pick (if we get it). This guy has been awful this year and isn't close to worthy of that kind of attention. That's the point.
RE: RE: RE: RE: The Giants had multiple people at WVU's game today as well. Â
No he isn't. He may be the better player right now, but he's not the better prospect. There's a difference.
In my eyes Grier is. More accurate, better pocket presence, better on the move, better football IQ.
Sure, Herbert is bigger and a better arm. And?
Grier is 3 years older than Herbert, playing in a very QB friendly system for the second year in a row (third on the team with the same system). At his size, you have to be a good athlete and you have to have good arm strength. I like Grier but those are big concerns which make me doubt he'll be a top 10 pick.
Herbert has flashed upside that Grier doesn't come close to. He can make throws all over the field, fits the ball into tight windows, improvises without losing velocity. But these are flashes. He needs to put it all together and do it consistently.

Oh, I get it. I’ve seen enough of Herbert. I’ve been very disappointed in his accuracy this year. Very erratic. And he’s playing in this Swiss Cheese Pac 12...so I’m not overwhelmed by his metrics as much as others.

Oh yeah. Those big 12 defenses Grier faces are similar to the 85 bears.
Where does Jones project in the draft? Mid 1st round? If Jones is the guy, maybe this works out well if we trade down and get some extra picks (hopefully some quality picks)
so Gettleman travels to see a game where a top QB prospect happens to be playing. That prospect has a rough day and this becomes a blemish on Gettleman for taking the time to scout the kid.

Makes sense...
Turned off the game because I'm going out, but apparently Herbert is doing well. 3 TD passes so far
Completion % is a concern to me. He has the frame and AA and the arm but his play has been so up and down the past few weeks. Grier is most likely the higher floor, lower ceiling type of player but I like his game. Herbert can be very very good if he cleans up some of his mechanical stuff, but he's very high risk and high reward. I personally like him, he seems to turn it on when he needs to and he looks like he understands when to whip it and when to take some off the fastball but he needs some polish.
RE: I know it’s tough to determine at the moment Â

If the QB you want is available when you're on the clock, you take him right then and there. Besides that, nobody knows where any of these guys project at this time in the process. Come April, Jones may be the consensus #1 overall or lucky to go on Day 2.
With that said, I have looked at all these guys, and IMHO, they are all hot garbage. Personally, I don't see a QB this year worthy of a first round pick let alone #1 overall. Each of them has not just warts, but massive growths...
Reminds me of a joke...
A doctor is talking to a patient. The doctor says that the growth on his forehead looks remarkable like a frog. Then the frog speaks up and says "What are talking about? I came here about this growth on my ass!"
Each of these QBs is a growth on some frog's ass!...
Some people here are really funny....

3rd and 10 on first series of down, looked like he was going to be sacked and made an impossible throw for a 15 yard out completion.
Then a few more throws to complete the TD drive.
I wouldn't have called myself a Herbert fan coming in but the TD throw in the first half and that out completion were top drawer.
