I think that he is going to be very similar to Jared Goff. With that said he is very raw coming out and if he plays early on in his rookie season he will struggle mightily. If he is the pick then it is vital that the Giants have a veteran stopgap to play the first 8 or more games. The last thing they should be doing is throwing him to the wolves behind a rebuilt offensive line.
is a very intelligent (biology major) and humble kid. He will work his ass off to improve and he has the intelligence and talent to be a great QB. The key will be patience.
Hi Sy.
Your opinion here:
Herbert isn’t in the same neighborhood a prospect as Darnold, Rosen, or Mayfield. Agree or disagree?
Sy mentioned in a post awhile back that while early, he’d have Herbert 2nd on the list if last last years QBs were involved. Can’t reme which one he had first but I think it was Rosen? Maybe?

I tend to agree. Watched 3 Oregon games already this season and kid just doesn't seem great. Frustrating that Tua isn't eligible this season.
You watched 3(!) Oregon games and determined he will be a bust from that? That is Mike Francesa level scouting and #hottakes
Deejboy, instead of just going after everyone else's opinion, why not add something insightful to the conversation and tell us why Hebert won't be a bust. What is it that you see in his game that makes you think he'll be a big time NFL QB, and a player worthy of a top 3 pick. Not saying it to be snarky, just trying to get a better understanding of what others see.
The Giants had multiple people at WVU's game today as well. Â
Obviously not as newsworthy as DG and Abrams at Oregon's game but it seems worth pointing out.
It is newsworthy. Clearly they realize they have a major hole at the most important position in the sport and are exploring the top prospects. This is good news.
Imo, Gettleman isn't flying to watch anybody but their potential first round pick. I'm sure he will be watching all relevant players in this game but Herbert is the main reason.
Now, this makes a ton of sense. We obviously have interest in him. Is this the fifth time this year the Giants have had someone scouting him? If we don't like him as the best prospect or do not take him first overall it makes everybody else know we are interested in him which drives up the asking price of the pick.
However, it works against us too. If we don't finish with the top pick and we want him the other team will hold us hostage for him especially with the lack of top QBs assumed in this draft.
with any drafting efforts now given their track record.
Actually their draft was the highlight of their tenure so far. Barkley, Hernandez, and Hill are already starters. Lorenzo Carter has flashed and he could be a starter as early as next season. The jury is still out on Lauletta, McIntosh, and Beal.

Also, isn't Herbert staying in school?
Herbert has never said he’s staying in school. There was a random article saying that he’d like to play with his brother and people took that and went with it as fact. Much like they did when a bogus report came out last year that Darnold was staying in school
Kid will be learning under Eli Manning and possibly Peyton (do It Mara!)
If the Giants draft Herbert, they aren't paying Manning $20M+ to mentor him. Manning will be gone and they'll sign some other, far less expensive vet to tutor the kid.
Herbert has not looked good at all these past few games
Which is exactly why so many of us had a problem with passing on a QB last year. I have no idea what will become of Herbert and Grier (or Darnold and Rosen for that matter)...but the fact that many of us on this board could see Eli was finished last year and the bright minds in the Giants organization couldn't is nauseating.
Is not an NFL caliber QB. He is another Brock Osweiler. He has the tools just doesn’t have the ‘it’ factor and it’s not something you can teach. His own coaching staff doesn’t even trust him. BBI needs to get over its infatuation with him.

If you don't love a QB, you don't love a QB. Can't force it. I actually liked Herbert more than Darnold, Rosen and Allen, but it's clear to me that the real franchise, transcendent QBs will be coming out in the coming years (Tua, Trevor Lawrence, Justin Fields...)

That is fair. If that is our reality, then the Giants should do everything in their power to get one of them, even if it means another awful season in 2019. Cut Eli, and play Lauletta in 2019. If he surprises, great, if not, we suck and get a shot at one of those guys.

Based on what?
Watch the way they’ve called games the past 3-4 weeks. Every big situation they run the ball unless it’s a mandatory passing situation. They don’t put the ball in their QB’s hands when they need a play. When you have a star that you trust, on any level of football, those are the guys you trust and give the ball to. The fact that Oregon doesn’t do that with Herbert (at all) speaks volumes to me.

I tend to agree. Watched 3 Oregon games already this season and kid just doesn't seem great. Frustrating that Tua isn't eligible this season.
Like Sam Darnold bust? Or Josh Allen and Josh Rosen bust?

I wish they changed the rules. Hell I would use the first overall pick on Tua or Trevor Lawrence this year if possible.

They been through one draft in the system And have several starters, what do you see that makes you say that

Why is that? They had a very good draft this season regardless of the butthurt QB at all costs crowd.

Not downplaying DG's interest but Utah is on the way to the West Coast for the MNF.
If the Giants draft Herbert, they aren't paying Manning $20M+ to mentor him. Manning will be gone and they'll sign some other, far less expensive vet to tutor the kid.
2. A top 5 pick gets paid 30 million guaranteed. No one is staying in school if they project top 5.
Too bad Trevor Lawrence can't come out right now. I'd be willing to forfeit the final 8 games to guarantee getting him
As would I. The kid looks NFL-ready as a freshman!
:)
??
Releasing Eli saves $17M vs the cap and the same $17M out of pocket cash for Mara/Tisch,
The $23.2M cap hit includes signing bonus already paid.
Slow start for Herbert.
:)
Lolol. Wouldnt put it it past him
