Herbert is more athletic. But Costello just looks like a pro QB.
I think Herbert has a higher ceiling if he puts it all together but also a much higher bust factor. Of course, Costello has a much better OL than Herbert, which makes it harder to compare them. But Costello just has that look. Herbert reminds me of Darnold.
I don't see any parallels between Herbert and Darnold Â
Even moreso if you believe the reports that the Giants didn't consider any of the QBs in the draft last year a "sure thing". I can't remember the exact wording but sure thing kr franchise qb come to mind.
.The brass is out west for the 49ers game. With an extra day until the game they are strategically fitting in a trip to see a QB.
.The scouts have seen most of Oregon's games. They have been scouting him heavily so this was a "see with my own eyes"
.He is not a sure thing to declare. He is a top 10 pick but not necessarily in the top 3.
.The best argument for him to declare is the strength of the '20 qb class where he is 3 at best, where this year he is 2 at worst.
Watch the duke QB. I like him. Yes I recall Dave Brown.

We all recall Dave brown with horror, but let us also recall Eli Manning in his prime. His college coach at Mississippi is now the coach at Duke. So let's use that comparison instead of Dave Brown.
This guy has the skills but obviously needs some grooming.
I can get behind him as our QB but much rather see him sit for a half of season or season behind a veteran. I think putting him right in would be a mistake.
RE: Just because they scouted him doesn't mean they'll Â
Really...why not? I mean they had to pay for airfare and a rental car probably, not to mention the price of the game ticket. Why do all that and not pick the guy...

I agree 100% - I was trying to emphasize the same point. You did it better.
Eli will start next year and we won't go for a QB in this next draft. Too many other serious problems need to be addressed first -- and the pickings at QB this year look thin.

If the Giants don't come away with a QB in this years draft I expect Eli to be back next year as well. They will then go all in for a QB in 2020.

Any scenario where Eli is on the roster in 2019 is a massive mistake. If they don't like these QBs, fine. Start Lauletta and use the cap savings with cutting Eli to sign other players that can make the team around him better.

Yeah, I'm not sure that this is a case of Cutcliffe building great NFL QBs as much as simply having the opportunity and a good working relationship with the Manning family.
Six quarterbacks whom Cutcliffe coached in college have gone on to play in the NFL: Heath Shuler, Peyton Manning, Eli Manning, Erik Ainge, Thaddeus Lewis, and Sean Renfree.
in and of himself really doesn't reassure me whether a QB is worth a top level pick. The name is familiar, but I have a hard time thinking Peyton or Eli would not have had the same career without DC.

This is more likely, our organization is stupid, lazy, and incompetent. This has been proven since 2011. They will double down on the phrase "we are fixing the oline".

They did fix the OLine with Omameh and Solder, oh wait...
Let's wait another couple years to draft a QB, while they are at it as well. What a cluster%uck this organization has become, Good Lord!
RE: If that roster bonus is given to Eli next March Â
If we have the #1 pick and DG is taking a QB, then it doesn't make sense to keep Eli. If we are picking at #3 or lower (Monday night's game will dictate our draft position see Ray's thread), then there is no guarantee that we get our guy. Other teams will be compelled to trade ahead of us knowing that we will looking to draft one.
Eli can get his roster bonus and if the draft falls where we get our guy, then Eli can still be waived without having to pay his salary. We will still be on the hook for the roster bonus and signing bonus, but save the salary.
Of course, if DG wants a stopgap until the rookie takes the field, he'll likely just keep Eli at $11.5M.
That's beyond dumb logic. What makes you think Lauletta is an upgrade to Eli? Spoiler alert. Lauletta upside is that of Jeff Rutledge. A long term backup. The hatred of eli is odd to me. Again on top of the online there ate other serious issues. I think the skill players, for example, are overrated. Beckham, engram and Shepard all drop WAY too many passes and get a huge pass around here. If it's me. You move on from Eli then move on from the clowns also and blow it up. I'm not against a young qb, by the way, just hate the false narrative its on eli. It isn't.

Because anything is better than Eli at a $23M cap hit at this point. I know you still have undying allegiance to Manning, but you need to let it go. He hasn't been good since 2015, and his continued presence on this roster will only hold them back further. You can spew all you want its everyone else's fault. They need a change at QB.
If we take a QB at #1 per say whatever saves us cap space
and salary . Eli could start the year and do his farewell
tour . Say they take a QB its economics for the team
I'm guessing next season is his last in Blue .
They could take a QB and release him and start whomever
and it doesn't mean they start a rookie .
We still need to see Lauletta I would think thats gonna happen soon . We have to lose out for the most part
not to hard to do we stink Monday maybe our last win
if were lucky .

His value is terrible and signing a backup quality player at qb will mean savings that can go to the line, or other positions that are needed. It will probably net the same results. Of course this place will have the Eli fanboys ripping the shreds off of whoever follows if he performs the same as Eli.
This is not to mention the absolute terrible message they send to the entire team who has already lost faith.
It does not matter if Lauletta is better or not, they have to try him and get a read. JTGiants with a terrible post and then calling people dumb........I suggest you read Eric's review and his assessment of the qb situation.
If Lauletta is not better this is the perfect chance to find out--because its not as if they are winning.
By this logic Kurt Warner should have played every snap in 2004.

We have been going back and forth since last year and I suggest you stop making predictions. Just a few weeks ago you guaranteed the Giants would win at least 3 of their next 4 games. They are a whopping 0-2 since you made that bold prediction. You also need to let go of your insistence that Eli is still good. Here is a direct quote from Sy in his review of the Redskins game:
"His entire game looks awfully slow. His mental reactions, his release, his footwork, and his arm. There isn’t any juice there."
That is exactly what I see and have been saying since last year. IT IS OVER.
I think Herbert has a higher ceiling if he puts it all together but also a much higher bust factor. Of course, Costello has a much better OL than Herbert, which makes it harder to compare them. But Costello just has that look. Herbert reminds me of Darnold.
Darnold problem is he's just a nutjob with the football and NFL coaching so far has done nothing to remedy that.
Herbert has far superior tools though, Darnold I don't think ever had elite QB potential, Herbert does.

Just saw yesterdays highlight vs Utah and he looked impressive in the loss. Took 4th lead.....after being down most of the game.
Wow. That’s some deep intel right there. Thanks for the info!
Don't you wanna be very, very good at being bad?"
Be bad, get the pick.....

Actually it is because it’s apparent that some people need to have this insight drilled into them.

Exactly.
He has what I would describe as an "effortless delivery", even the deep balls. I would imagine his passes are very easy to catch.
