Eli is declining and hearing footsteps, and without a proper OL in front of him, he's often a sitting duck with PTSD.
With Lauletta, you have no idea what you've got and until Shurmur/Shula feel like he's demonstrating grasp in practice, he won't see snaps on gameday. He also will likely not have even a mediocre OL in front of him, which will be a factor in the the coaches' decisions on whom to play.
Either way, an old schooler like Shurmur will likely defer to the veteran over the unknown.
to getting Lauletta ready to play, while doing so with the parallel goal of winning the game(s) at hand. Shurmur, his coaches, and the players want/need to win games in order to protect their spots with the team beyond 2018. There's not much thought being given to 2019 yet, that's DG's job and roadmap to lay out for his subordinates.
It goes against the grain of what fans want, and to some extent it goes against the team beginning to look towards 2019. But, ownership will likely choose the former as well, given the livelihood of many is on the hook at the end of the day.
I'm impressed with what I've seen on video of Justin Herbert, Â
but I can only find three of his 2018 games on youtube - Bowling Green, Portland State and Cal. I'd like to see some of his other games, particularly his less successful ones to get a balanced view of what he brings to the table.
He's been a bit inconsistent at times, and protected by some of the scheming at times due to the talent around him. He also lost most of the 2017 season due to injury.
totally right. why i’m not insisting we see Lauletta this week.
However anyone claiming not to see Lauletta play at some point this year because he probably won’t be better than Eli is missing the entire point.
i’m not even getting into some of the blind bats around here that insisted there would be some robust market for him or that he could still be highly effective in a better setting.

Yep, at some point Lauletta figures to get some reps, probably after they're mathematically eliminated from the playoffs.

Hassan, why have you not been more active around here this year? I assume apathy. You and I took endless piles of shit from the posters who would defend Eli to the end last year. Please post more.
meant not giving up on the 2018 season, that's a hard deal for many.
But that's the problem Jon. I would have gladly taken a punt on this season if it meant moving on from Eli. He is a relic from a long lost era of football. I watched the sunday night football game last night with a random falcons fan and I asked him point blank, "what is wrong with the Giants?" In two words he gave me the correct answer, "Eli Manning".
And the fact that so many of us on a message board could see this team needed to move on from Eli and the guys that get paid millions to make these decisions couldn't is tired. I also dont want to hear the argument that Eli's contract made it impossible either. They would have had to eat 12M in dead money, but they still would have freed up 10M in cap space with cutting him last year. They decided to go all in with Eli when they should have planned for the future. And now here we are in the midst of another atrocious season.
part filling the stadium on gameday and selling merchandise and concessions, part respect to Eli, part we're sorry for the benching fiasco, and part hoping Eli could win some games and bridge them to the next QB will some sort of grace and positive effect.
The situation is bad enough where the changes needed will take time to take effect. Draft picks, chemistry, etc need time to develop. DG's plan, right or wrong, will take time to take effect (and for his mistakes to be rooted out and fixed).
I realize these aren't things fans want to hear. But, I'm prepared to watch this team stumble, grow, and hopefully point the arrow up next season. They all need to learn how to be pro's, learn how to do all the little things correctly when live bullets are flying, and then learn how to win as a collective force.
2016 was the outlier, it had enough of the TC culture and imprint left in house and the defensive upgrades along with Eli/OB's big play ability resulted in a strong season. The emperor had no clothes as it began to fade and teams figured them out.
w/o Darnold yesterday. The guy is 21 years old playing on a crappy team. Remember Eli in year 3 throwing 4 picks against Minny? Then went on to win the SB. With the yound QBs, need to wait 3-4 years to truly evaluate. That's why if you pick the wrong one, it sets you back 5 years.
From what I've seem so far, all 4 guys picked in the first round look like they will be good QBs in a few years.
If Herbert is similar to these guys after evaluation, and we can pick him, gotta do it.

Sounds like an STD. No thanks.

But, that's not how the team will operate in real time. Mara will focus on filling seats and from Shurmur down their focus is win and return in 2019.
2019 falls down their list.

Daniel Jones is doing more with less in my opinion. Still a little too early to declare who I would like on the Giants.
There is something about Daniel Jones that reminds me of Phillip Rivers. I don't know what it is. but he does.
