The top of the table rounding into out, but every team is trailing the top two. Maurizio Sarri sets EPL record for unbeaten run as a new manager, even with Chelsea dropping two points against Everton. Tottenham rounding into form following what looked like an initial world cup lag. Arsenal salvaged 1 point against Wolves.
Interesting to see what MU does over the next few months.
Please tell me how long you have been rooting for City.
Since I was a kid. My father was English. But never got to watch them much other than PPV in the early days. The NBC coverage has been awesome to witness over the last several years.
But this game was over the second Mourinho benched Alexis and played a midfield that is probably the slowest middle three on record. They played better but Herrera wouldn't start for any Champions League contender - neither would Rashford. Shows the investment Abu Dhabi has made in the team.
Seems to deploy a tactic that is diametrically opposed to what is necessary to win a game like this. Only when he's forced by the other team to change does he do so. It's like he's stubborn just to be stubborn.
And that nonsense in Turin last week was straight trash. He's unbelievably unlikable.

The link below--which won't work as hyperlink because, for whatever reason, BBI can't field links to NYT--is responsive to Bobby's note re. Abu Dhabi investment and at the same time to cosmicj's reference to Der Spiegel exposé on City, Real, Bayern, UEFA, FIFA. I am not a big fan of Rory Smith's, too full of himself, but his views are reflective.

I don't mind Rashford that much, he's a bit ponderous, but he's still a very young kid. And I'm surprised you didn't mention PP sitting up in the stands, not even dressed (unless he was injured UEFA last week?)

Colonel, hope you are well. We're actually talking about three different things (any of which would take a long post):
1) Pogba: I'm going to take this at face value and that he was really injured because if you look at the way United set up, and specifically where Fellaini was playing, that is where Pogba would've been. And they would've been much better on the break and more of a threat. They had good spells but really needed someone to spray passes all over the park. NOW, why he chose Fellaini to start instead of Mata in that role is Jose.
2) With City, it's separating the greatness of the project and the football being played with the billions spent to get there, the flaunting of FFP and the fact that City is a national entity for the UAE (part of their strategic economic plan). Great quality of football and Pep is a master mind (is the Barca documentary out yet), but when you have resources to get anyone you want.
3) Mourniho: I do think he's funny, even if I don't agree with his tactics. I don't think his tactics were that bad in the game, he just didn't have the right players (a whole other discussion). All of the reading I've done on him is that he's actually a personable guy who builds strong relationships with players, but the Real tenure kind of broke him a bit and he should've taken time off.
I don’t think the absence of Alexis had anything to do with it Â
He has been horrible for United, he’s finished. Always was a wasteful player but at his peak he created enough to make up for it. Doesn’t contribute anything now, Arsenal dodged a bullet there, would have been a real mistake to give him a new contract.
As a Liverpool fan I’d be happy if Mourinho kept trying to force Alexis into this United team, but even with his affinity for older players it appears he has too much sense for that.

My only point would be that in the same fixture last year, Alexis' wide play is what got everything going. But yes, i agree that he should be in Italy and not England at this point.
Was at Inter. His desired style of play fits that league tremendously. And still does. I know there have been some rumors over the last few months that he wants to go back there and he probably should. Unless he can change some of his ways, I don't think his style is suited for a consistent top 4 finish in England anymore.
Jose M. not amused.
A pox on their house? Settle down.
2-0 City in the 48'.
Game on!
