Seems like they play hard for him and he had good success particularly early. Probably needed a fresh start. Green Bay is a good call. I would take him over Shurmur. Maybe we can hire him and make Shurmur the OC!
I don't think so. There are rumors that Jerry Jones will force Dak Prescott on the HC candidates. If they don't like Prescott as the long term answer then they won't get the job. I doubt Harbaugh will agree to that when he will have several suitors.
Harbaugh would get to stay in the division (which he knows really well) and the young and up-coming Browns would get an experienced HC who would be respected in the locker room.
will have his pick of jobs. He may also want a year off. He’s been full steam ahead HC for 11 years now.
I wonder whether his preference would be for a young QB or if the Packers call to take a shot with Rodgers for a couple years.
Have to think teams like the Bucs, Broncos, Packers, Jets will be banging at the door. Browns also although it sounds like they want a young offensive mind.
then that will surely be his top choice. The Jets are an interesting landing spot too. They have their young QB plus some very good young talent on defense. They need to rebuild that offense and add a pass rusher but they aren't in terrible shape.
If you go back to the last time they did this in 2007, they fired Billick one year after they went 13-3 and lost their QB to injury during the season.
Ravens thought it was time. They found Harbaugh and he's given them 11 good years of work. They've only had 2 coaches in the last 20 years.
Harbaugh is still a very good coach. But this likely is more organization philosophy to move on now before they end up likely doing it next year anyway. Why prolong something you think should be over?
I forgot about Cleveland, that would be the most attractive opening after Green Bay. Cleveland is set up well for the future as Mayfield is looking like a franchise guy. Myles Garrett, Denzel Ward, Nick Chubb, Larry Ogunjobi, Ogbah, David Njoku, Antonio Callaway, and Jarvis Landry is a good young core.
He was a Special Teams coach who was not on many teams radar when he was hired.
If you told the fan base of a team we are hiring a man who has no experience as an offensive or defensive coordinator, or no previous head coaching experience, how do you think that would be received?
The Ravens had big personalities on its roster (Lewis, Reed, Suggs, Scott), mainly on defense. Not easy to do as a first timer who's never been a head coach and earn the respect of the team that has had success.
He delegates authority with the offense and defense and it has worked for him rather than be known as an "offensive" or "defensive" coach. Probably should have had 2 Super Bowl appearances instead of 1 after what happened in that Patriots game in 2011.
An argument can be made that if he applied for a first time HC job today with the resume he had coming into the Ravens job, he wouldn't be hired based on owners preferring "offense."
He is a coaching success story. Whatever happens, he showed that good coaches can come from anywhere if you are open to listening, having an open mind, and not having certain preferences before going into the process.
Interesting thought, but cannot see Mara and DG having the balls for that type of move. Think Harbaugh is winner and would be a perfect fit here as we continue to rebuild.

It wouldn't be balls. It would be stupidity. Right now Giants fans are the equivalent to children running around flopping their arms and running into walls. Fire him! Dump him! Hire him!
I would go after him ASAP. Harbaugh is a really good coach. It just went stale for him in Baltimore. It happens. He would be a clear upgrade over Shurmur.

You have two options with Shurmur:
1. Based on his perceptions of players going into the season and the reality that came about, on top his own in-game decision making, which can be best described as "questionable" this season, you determine in advance that he is not the guy and you cut your losses before it becomes obvious and you end up doing the inevitable.
2. You give him 3 full years and see what happens. If you are conceding you are going to stink in 2019, why would you fire him after next season? It would make no sense.
You can make a case for either.
RE: RE: I think that Shurmur deserves another year Â
Everyone advocating for keeping Shurmur is doing it only by saying “he deserves another year”, that isn’t exactly a ringing endorsement or conviction in him. I’d be more inclined to have this view if he didn’t fail in Cleveland & if he didn’t look worse than McAdoo did last year in running the offense.
Most importantly though, the number of good head coaches is as low as it has ever been. Just look at the HC’s hired since 2014, the majority of them have already been fired. A guy like Harbaugh doesn’t come on the market often & he is a true CEO of a football team.
Level headed knows the game commands respect
relatively young mostly a winner .
My guess he will be highly sought after .
Maybe Shurmur needs more time considering what
inherited he hasn't shown exactly how good a leader he is
or is his system good enough his track record is poor .
if there was a choice its a no brainer to me .

44-45 since Super Bowl 47. One playoff appearance. Hires hacks like Marc Trestman and Marty Mornhinwig as OC. Defense has been overrated since Lewis and Reed left. Hell NO on Harbs
it's probably best to start fresh with a new coach, too. If we suck next year, which is likely, we'll probably fire Shurmur anyway, and the QB will have to learn a new offense in year two. Not ideal. Jets are in that boat with Bowles right now.
Jackson to start over Flacco - ( New Window )
I can see him going to the Packers if they can McCarthy
Browns...
He won a Super Bowl. He's not going back to that, especially in a market like this where there are very few up-and-coming prospective head coaches.
Shurmur is a WCO offensive coordinator buried in a less large play sheet.
It’s bedn awhile since this franchise had a true head coach. Harbaugh would be a very nice hire.

Agree it will be the Browns.

If you think the team looks incompetent now, imaging how they would look firing their head coach two years in a row.
This ‘Fire Shurmur’ talk is ridiculous.

What has he done to deserve another year?

but if they can get Harbaugh then it is a no brainer IMO. Harbaugh is a great coach and he would help change the culture here.
What has he done to deserve another year?
What has he done that deserves a firing?

This.
Cleveland seems to be the most likely destination for him.
Even if Shurmur is not a great coach I think he needs at least one more year, after another DG draft, to turn it around.
The ones who need to be fired are Hal Hunter and Shula.
Great post.

Not a joke at all. Actually, the joke is you’ve provided zero logic on this topic at all.
Its "C" for coach
