I think Dino Babers deserves votes for national coach of the year in CFB. He's led a Syracuse team that is not a top 25 team based on talent to #12 in both national polls, with an outside shot at a New Year's Day bowl. That program was virtually dead for a long time and it's very hard to recruit there, which makes their resurgence all the more astounding. I haven't seen a lot of their games aside from their heartbreaker at Clemson and their blowout win vs. NC State, but if anybody watches them on a regular basis, what other factors led to them being a team to watch on the national stage again?
Two big factors I can think of are the pass rush, Alton Robinson has been a huge help there, and Dungey. Dungey is just a gamer, not the best QB out there and will make some mistakes, but a great athlete...great runner, good arm.
Probably depend on medicals and needs a certain system to be highly successful
Agreed Dino deserves national recognition.
Don't get me wrong, I love to watch Dungey... decent arm, punishing dangerous runner (to opponents and himself), and one big, tough old school MF. But his pro prospects are very limited IMHO. And his aggressive style will get him murdered against NFL level defenders.
My fear is that Babers jumps ship at some point. That would be a nightmare scenario. But maybe he's sick of moving all over the country - he's coached for what - 20+ schools at this point?
Interestingly enough, Coda Martin, their starting RT, is married to his daughter. Martin is from Central NY and his dad is also on the staff. So maybe Babers decides to stay for a while. He's done an amazing job.
And he called it - Year 3 would be the year we see significant improvement and this team being back on the national stage. His players love him, fans love him and the media absolutely adores the guy. Coach of the Year is a possibility if they somehow win out.
Demonstrates how an elite coach can turn things around, even in programs where it seems like an impossible task.
Penn State and Syracuse had a great rivalry back in the day.
Will Syracuse pay to keep him if bigger schools with deep pockets come calling?
Who are the WR and RB transfers? They’ll have a strong WR group returning in Riley, Johnson, and Harris -awesome to hear they’ll have a fourth.

Love Dungey, huge heart, just don’t think he has the goods for the NFL. His accuracy is not consistent and doesn’t see the field well at all IMO.

I can see him considering leaving after this year, 2020 for sure. He’s a west coast guy and I just can’t see him settling down here in Syracuse. I have to think if USC or someone similar comes calling he’s gone. No chance he takes the Louisville job, that’s no upgrade IMO.

Probably all Brohm for them
I love Dungey as a college q.b. but don't think he'll be
much in the NFL. Probably get drafted in the 6th round or so, but he'll have to improve his accuracy quite a bit to have an NFL career.
Really hope that Coach Babers is with us for a while.
His leaving would probably set the program backwards at a time when the momentum is all forward. It would be a
shame.
At the season's beginning I passed on tickets for this
Saturday's Notre Dame game fearing a slaughter. Now decent tix are $350 and up and I'm hoping we can pull
off the upset.
It's been a wonderful football season and I'm looking
forward to an even better basketball season.
Proud to be Orange.
Unless USC offers him a job, I'd like to see him stay a little while at SU and get this program to be a consistent winner.
Will Syracuse pay to keep him if bigger schools with deep pockets come calling?
hes not taking a step back by going to louisville
We didn't play in the Citrus Bowl.
I was on the teams that played in the Liberty, Fiesta and Orange Bowls.
Transferred mid season and missed the Gator Bowl in 95. No Citrus Bowl.

he seems to really love the fact that we pla ur home games in a dome

You're correct, my mistake, honestly meant to say a lateral step. Obviously, Louisville has been a far better program over the last 15 years, but i'd argue given the current state of the UL program and the recent resurgence of Syracuse, that a move by Dino from SU to UL would be pretty much a lateral one (if the money is the same).
There's you're tier one jobs (USC, ND, Bama, and a dozen or so other schools) and Cuse and Louisville would be somewhere in the next tear, likely the bottom IMO.

Shit, that wasn't me who said UL was a step back, my bad. Time for bed.

Louisville is a trash program ripe with foul people running the AD. That place is a Fucking disaster.
On what planet, my ass.

reliant team with a bend don’t break Defense. They could be better if their Sr. QB Eric Dungey was a bit more accurate and able to throw the ball down field but it still has been a great year overall. Offense is a three headed running attack spear headed by Moe Neal and a big play here and there in the air by Sean Riley. If they beat Notre Dame it’ll be the biggest season since they were ranked #5 overall and went to the Citrus bowl with Donovan McNabb at the helm. Great Job by coach Dino

I stand corrected, definitely was the fiesta bowl.
Louisville's football team may be shit this year but that program as a whole is still absolutely not a step back from syracuse.
Wut?

Their success this year is primarily due to great offense, finally have a good OL, and great special teams. The defense can get after the passer, but struggle containing the ground game, and usually blow 1-2 assignments per game that give up big plays.
B, I believe Martin is originally from Texas - lives in Dino's basement this year after marrying his daughter Jasmine back in the Spring.

They didn't get Hudson last week. He only visited. Would be a nice get
Too bad this game is at Yankee Stadium. Someone is going to get hurt running a fade into one of those end zone corners. Game should be at ND stadium (just like the previous games shouldve been @Cuse rather than MetLife). Both ND and Cuse's AD (at the time) really fucked this up.
If they were playing over their heads it would have shown up at Clemson, whom they beat last year and surely Clemson didn't look past them this year.
I have been sceptical of the team this year, mostly due to their defense...but that seems to be a disease that has afflicted 90% of college football.

Dungey seems a little bit like Taysom Hill who has carved out an interesting niche position in New Orleans. He'd have to be drafted (or signed if undrafted) by a team with a creative offensive coordinator/staff.

Yeah, they beat Clemson last season, then lost their final five games, and they lost their final five games in 2016 too. I'll admit it - I'm gun-shy. I keep waiting for the wheels to come off.
For the time being, I'm totally prepared to believe that SU is among the very best of the 90% of Division I teams who are basically mediocre.

Louisville's entire athletic program is toxic right now thats why it would be a step back and babers doesnt seem like he wants to rebuild another program

Louisville doesnt have Lamar jackson walking through that door

ever since the new ad was hired he has given babers more than any other ad has given a coach from a plane to increased staff and would expect an extention is in the works before next season to increase his salary and salary for his staff

the past 2 years we had no capable backup this year do
The Louisville athletic program is a sewer and recruits know it.
Meanwhile, Cuse continues to improve its recruiting ten fold, is sinking money into tons of improvements at Manley and the Dome is going thru a major renovation shortly. Plus, they have a really good coach and excellent recruiter.
