Matt Patricia and the Lions

Sammo85 : 11/11/2018 5:00 pm
Lost in the amazement of the Jets debacle and Bowles head coach status was the complete domination of the Lions by the Bears.

Outside of the Pats game the Lions have been outcoached and ineffective in just about every other game. Patricia looks like he’s got no idea what to do right now. His defense got pounded today and the offense has gone into the toilet under his watch. They’ve now had a handful of games where they’ve had massive coaching and preparation issues.

I know people question Shurmur and many wanted Patricia. Jury may be out but Patricia has had a terrible start so far as a head coach.
I was wrong about Mitchell Trubisky

I thought he was going to be a bust but he has taken a big step forward this season. He had another great game for Chicago.
More evidence as to why Harbaugh should be hired if available

Nagy has done a good job of tailoring that running game and his offense around Trubisky rather than shoving Trubisky into his offense. Very clear how good a job he’s done there.
Trubisky's success illustrates the importance of being patient

with rookie qb's. I was and still am for picking Barkley, but I think some of these rookies who are going through growing pains this season may end up as good quarterbacks.
The Lions won 2 other games

They beat Miami 32-21 on the road and they beat the Packers 31-23. Were they outcoached and ineffective in those games as well?

This is exactly what the great coordinators do.

If Justin Herbert is the Giants pick in the draft then next year is going to be pretty rough here with all the impatient posters. He is going to struggle year one without a doubt but I expect him to take a significant jump in year two as Goff and Trubisky have.
Patricia has promis
UConn4523 : 11/11/2018 5:21 pm : link
his 2 best defenders have been hurt all season and his offense struggles to sustain drives. If they can commit to running and keep the turnovers down, they will be a solid team.

Exactly. It was only a few weeks ago that some were pointing to Mariota, as evidence that

A). It too risky taking a quarterback with a high pick unless you are certain
He s the guy

Or

B). To emphasize how overvalued Mobility in a quarterback is

They might what to revisit him as an example for that narrative.
Lions O-line hasn't helped

Stafford got crucified last week like a pinata .
He didn't get much help this week either .

. I live in Baltimore. I follow the Ravens. Why do so many here have a desire for John Harbaugh to be Heead Coach? He is 44-45 since the Ravens won Super Bowl 47. That coincides with the retirement of Ray Lewis and Ed Reed. Since 2012, Baltimore has made the playoffs once. He is lousy at managing the clock, timeouts and replay challenges. He has saddled the Ravens with coordinators whom the game has passed by and has had a hand in awful drafting as he has a say.

So I ask, please tell me why John Harbaugh is desired as HC?

Not only that but they went out and got guys who fit what he’s trying to do — Robinson, Gabriel, Burton, and Miller last off season.

how would you describe shurmur's performance? He's been 10x worse than patricia
At what point does the QB have to answer for all the losing?

Trubisky is a good comp for the Giants and the 2019 draft. Yes he went second overall, but how many people were saying he was worth the pick? Very few starts in college. The pick was primarily viewed as a reach.

As a matter of fact, 2017 was viewed as a down year for QBs and look at what Trubisky, Watson, and Mahomes are doing. So far they’re looking damn good.

The Giants have five-plus months to figure this out.

I also live in Baltimore and watch the Ravens. I agree- don't think John Harbaugh is someone we should be aspiring to as Head Coach of the Giants for all the reasons you stated.
anybody notice

BB assistants fair well against him this year. Patricia did and so did Vrabel.

Interesting, a lttle...

Why does the coach take the hit for it and not Flacco? Flacco has been pretty bad since being given all that money.

Trubisky is becoming a really good player. Way too many rush judgements on him after last year and early this year. He was only a 1 year starter in college and it was UNC - he was always going to need a little time to develop.
