NFT: Atlanta United MLS

ij_reilly : 11/11/2018 10:32 pm
I attended my first Atlanta United MLS game tonight, playoff game against NY FC. I heard it was a cool game experience, but it was just outrageous. Wild crowd and super high energy. Announced attendance of 70,526 at the beautiful Mercedes Benz stadium. What a great time!

I’m curious regarding what MLS games are like in cities other than Atlanta, as compared to Atlanta. Do the fans show up for the games? Are they rabid?

Or is the Atlanta experience an anomaly?

Was the roof open?

The NYCFC coach was all bundled up but everybody else was in short sleeves. The stadium sounded crazy loud on TV. And the field looked solid too despite having the conversion from american football.

It looked absolutely awesome on TV. Me being a City fan and an NYCFC fan made me jealous. Yankee Stadium for soccer is a joke.
Fans do show up

at least on TV, they show Portland a lot (and those fans are really into it). 70k is unusual, though, and would only happen in a shared stadium (Baseball/Football). The MLS only stadiums tend to seat fewer fans, usually in the 20-30k range.
Red Bulls will go into that place and get a result

This is the year we get that god damned cup.
Roof was closed

It was too chilly for the roof to be open.

I already bought tickets for the next game.

My family had season tix for the Giants from 1975 - present. I've been to my more than my fair share of NFL games.

It's just my humble opinion but by and far the best fan experience in the metro area currently is Red Bull arena, especially so since MetLife stadium is atrocious.

It's a freaking cult like

Atlanta and Seattle

definitely draw the biggest crowds but there are enthusiastic fans in pretty much every MLS stadium. Even when you have a small crowd, when one entire end section is standing and chanting the entire time, it makes for a fun atmosphere.
It's a good live experience

in a lot of cities. TV ratings aren't there, but it draws live better than a lot of people realize.
Always have a great time

When I go to redbull games. Real fun atmosphere.
Atlanta is owned

by Arthur Blank and he deserves a lot of credit, because he's doing the right thing by the fans down there. I'm not sure what they charge for tickets, but it's my understanding food and drink at the concession stands are at rock bottom prices.

A guy can bring his family to a match and not have to blow a huge portion of his paycheck on hot dogs, soda, and beer.

Good for them!
Yeah the concession prices are great in mls

You can get a 24oz can of beer for $5 I think at redbull arena.
Mercedes Benz concession prices

are not allowed to be inflated over the regular restaurant prices.

We got 2 killer pulled pork BBQ sandwiches from Fox Brothers, one of the better BBQ places in Atlanta. They were huge. No way my lady friend could finish hers. And I was too full to finish what she left. Two diet cokes, non-drinkers here. Same as restaurant price, very reasonable.

The Benz is just a great facility.

"The Gulch", which is adjacent to the facility, has just been cleared for a huge development deal. It will be a walking mixed-use area.

Atlanta is a boom town.

Now all we need is for Arthur to bring us back a hockey team!

Atlanta United sold/distributed over 1 million tickets already this season.
