NFT: Headspace Meditation App

DC Gmen Fan : 11/12/2018 3:39 pm
Anyone use it? Is it worth it? I did the beginner's intro and found it very frustrating and shallow - to the point where I was just looking forward to it to end. I would like to pursue some meditation and have heard good things about this but at 12/mo I'm not sure if it's worth it. Anyone have any suggestions/encouragement?
Check out Waking Up - Sam Harris's meditation app

It's got a 4.9 at the Google Play Store. I have it downloaded, but haven't gotten into it yet.

The full curriculum costs $8/month (or $60/year), but there's free content you can try out to get a taste and see if you like it.
I got the Calm app

its a $60 one time charge. I'm not deep into meditation but I use it before bed and it does the trick. It seems to be more adult then Headspace (meaning it doesn't have drawings and animations)
Yeah, I wasn't a fan of Headspace

I don't need a little British man to tell me to breathe in and breathe out.

problems with anxiety for the last 5 years or so (39 now) and have given meditation a try numerous times. I am absolutely horrible at it. I have tried numerous times and even attended a class on it once, but I cannot do it. It’s like those images inside a bunch of color that everybody can see except for me and the guy from Mallrats. I am sincerely impressed by people that are able to do it with any degree of success.
My wife uses it

She likes it - It’s worked for her to put a routine together to destress and get to bed

Matty, I was the same way as you, tried meditation numerous times and, instead of relaxing, it was so frustrating. I couldn’t do it “right”. Until a friend of mine who swore by meditation got me this book. To an experienced meditator, they may laugh at the oversimplistic approach to this book. But due to that oversimplistic approach, it “worked” for me.

Key point I took away from this book was you can’t do it right or wrong. It’s kind of like exercising, just the fact that you are doing it at all is a positive. Once I understood that, I was able to not worry about doing it right or wrong, just doing it. And one day it clicked, can’t describe it. But I did it “right”. Before quitting on meditation as a whole, order there his book and just try it out.

can be extreemely difficult, especially these days. Id suggest actually doing a cpl of live class sessions with a leader to learn breathing techniques etc.
