Eli needs a good showing tonight

EJJ : 11/12/2018 4:40 pm
IMO if Eli comes out and shits the bed they have to bench him if not next week they need to at least move Lauletta to number 2 and get him ready.
I don't think they have to win for him to continue to start but he has to elevate his play and not be the reason they loose. We all know the line is what it is BUT he can't look like dog shit again after a bye week without some kind of change?

Eli is in the past, not the future.

The only good that can be obtained from the rest of this season is to find a starting quarter back for the future, or at least to look like we were finding for one.

Who are they benching him for?

Tanney? Iím sure Lauletta will not be active again tonight. Anyway, Lauletta will get his chance sometime this year. Itís not happening yet. If and when the agiants are mathematically eliminated from playoff contention, you can be rest assured that theyíll be getting the back ups ready to play in games.
Only reason to play Lauletta is to tank for draft position
widmerseyebrow : 11/12/2018 5:30 pm : link
"Seeing what he's got" is for the people in the stands, not for the coaches who have seen him play in practice and have not seen enough to even elevate him to backup.

He's more than likely not the future and he was drafted to sit for at least a year. Us sucking this year doesn't all of a sudden make him a first rounder who's turn has come.
Eli needs a good showing for what?
Larry in Pencilvania : 11/12/2018 5:34 pm : link
That ship has sailed. I just want him to not get clobbered and look like a fool because he's behind a sieve for an offensive line. I want to just move on to the next era of Giants' football and put this nightmare to bed. I thank Eli for the wonderful memories and times he has given me. He doesn't deserve this shit from the team, the fans or the media. I'd just like to see him drive off into the sunset with respect

How about little things like
- We should all want to see Eli go out on a high note
- Win 1 game just win 1
- And I've said this before - how about 1 in a row?

Would love to see Eli

The odds of Eli going out on a high note are going to continue to diminish the longer we keep trotting him out there.

We've won just 4 times in his last 20+ starts.

There's no reason why that is going to change. We can keep putting him out there week after week, the results are going to continue to be poor.

There's just no benefit now or long-term. I can't think of a single one.

and is frankly still the best QB on the roster (by a long margin). The people wishing for him to fail are idiots.

Also there is a big difference between when Eli came in during 2004 and now. Eli was the #1 pick, clearly the next Giants QB. Lauletta is lucky if he makes the team at all next year, since the Giants will likely draft Hebert. We only need 1 developmental QB on the roster.

their QB transition. Watching the games yesterday I think Eli is still better than half the QB's in the NFL. But I think his time with the Giants will end after this year. The owners and the people the owners are weak and worried about fan reaction and media reaction. Especially the Mara brothers. They cave quickly.

As far as seeing Lauletta this year behind this line. Yes I think that is a good idea. All rookie QB's take their lumps, take a pounding, even the HOFers like Aikman or Peyton or Eli. May as well find out how Lauletta will handle it and if he has a chance to at least be a good back up if not more.

Yes Mara is media and fan driven on decision esp w/ Eli

Les, this is a great post, but maybe inadvertently so. To say this organization, this corporate-like ownership, has 'vetted' anything is to imbue it with a notion of process and professionalism, which is illusory. Carefully crafted, as in spin, I can buy that.

But the best part is
Quote:
to explain the change so the fanboys don't riot again
. This is beautiful, and spot on. Because those fan boys, including those notable posters here who still are, as well as those who have leapt off the wagon, are the same whom the craven and spineless Mara Tech couldn't stand up to when the cards were on the table.

This dog don't hunt no more: it's the combination of a shit-stained OL and a QB whose time has come and gone, yes, I think we can agree, gone>>>accelerated by that OL, but he does not have the skill set, athleticism at this point in his career, or quick cognitive skills playing behind a NYG OL to make the team competitive. Hence the 4 - 20 record these past season .5

What I've been begging this stupid coach to do, run the god damn football more than 30% of the time. We pass more than any team in the league, it's absolutely mystifying to me that our horrid OL and up and down QB are asked to carry this offense by throwing 70% of the time.

I hope Eli lights it up and they win. I do not expect that to happen, but dare to dream.

Not to defend Eli, but the Giants were one 63 yard miss away from Eli's best game in awhile, against a Texan team that is now a winning team, and 30 plus point output with two 4th quarter TD'S for a comeback win. I know this team sucks, but who knows what happens if that kick misses, that was a brutal loss.

That was against Carolina not Houston.

I'd agree, but you see what a s..t show it is when they try to run. As often as not, SB is snowed under behind the LOS. It is astounding how porous the OL is when they move FORWARD, TRY to move the DL forward. Mind boggling, but we see it game after game, the same.

Probably because the run blocking is the worst in the NFL.

Barkley is getting hit at or behind the LOS on nearly every carry. I'd like to see more of a commit to the run too - but we're probably just going to see more 3 and outs (if that's possible) by setting up 2nd/3rd and longs constantly by getting stuffed for no gain or a loss on 1st down carries.

I'd like to see some more outside/off tackle runs. Even a few tosses. We obviously can't run anywhere near the A gaps because the interior is just getting driven backwards.

I wouldn't run to the right often, either - Wheeler is awful.

Best bet is to try running behind Solder/Hernandez more often.

Yes, the Carolina win would have come right after the Houston win. Piggybacking good games from the offense including breaking the 30 point plateu in a comeback win.

Also, it boggles my mind the Giants pass so much. I know they o line gets blown up and many runs are for losses, but how do you air it out 51 times last week when Eli is getting drilled and it is a kne score game for so long.

Unless the team really looks better in the second half, I have seen enough of Shurmur and I think he will likely crash and burn.
Let's be clear here

Barkley could still break big one, it at least forces opposition to think about the run. May allow for more effective play action or at least not allow the d line to be fresh and just rush eli the stationary target.

Also, plan to use players and formations in a way more favorable to line it up and run. It is madness to keep airing it out and frankly Eli, I know loses all time now, is the only guy who can not get injured with the battering he takes.
