I dont think the Giants are in any danger of escaping the top few picks of the draft and Im not sure its a year where #1 matters very much. Just gonna enjoy the win, theyll be back to losing soon.
Love the guy, but Eli isnt without blame in this. Because its been going on since TC was here. Coach and QB never seem to understand when the clock is no longer working against them and they can just let the clock bleed
Our D was not preventing a FG so he was going for TD.
There were about 20 seconds on the play clock on the TD pass. No resason to snap it until 3 seconds on the play clock. If its not there take an incompletion. Plus the Giants still had a TO
Given health this team was never bad enough, nor had a strong
enough schedule to get that #1 overall pick. I still think Oakland and Arizona are easily worse. I think we'll pick 3-5, especially with the schedule getting easier.
He maligned Eli the whole game, then does a 180 and praises him how he showed his naysayers hes still got it! WTF, he was his biggest naysayer the whole game!
to win, but the 49ers are awful. Mullens, and no downfield receiver. Kittle killed us all freaking night. So die Breida. ST were again poor. Not enough running lanes. Tons of check downs because Eli was again throwing against six or seven defenders. Collins and Ogletree had poor games. J. Brown looked good IMO.
Young players need to learn how to win and there are a lot of young players on this team. If there was anAndrew Luck available in the draft, then at least theres a conversation. But theres not, so enjoy the win. Let the team go on a run with a nice winning streak that will carry into next year
down the stretch. We got weapons. Engram showing up on that last drive was especially nice to see. Eli can still be effective, if not as good as he used to be, when he has the time.
I know he got the roughing the passer call but he hit him as he was throwing the ball. Thats a bad call. And I guess he landed on the QB.
I'm still wondering how the hell that was roughing the QB. Total & complete BS call
Right there with ya. He didn't land on him with all his weight or even drive him into the ground IMO. He was all shoulder, off to the side and just made a nice solid on time hit on the QB.
I thought maybe it was a hit to the head or something but it clearly wasn't that. No idea why that was called.
Amazing the amount of donks on this site who think building a winner in the NFL is like building a winner in the NBA.
Pretending 'culture' is important is how we ended up with trash offseason moves.
So you dont think culture is important?
I think it's wildly overstated, especially here. How are the Rams doing? All they did is collect players on defense that were 'red flags'.
'Culture' gets thrown around a lot. Gettleman needed to come in here and change the 'culture'. So he signs 'culture' guys. And one year after a 3 win season with a bad locker room, we're 2-7.
I know he got the roughing the passer call but he hit him as he was throwing the ball. Thats a bad call. And I guess he landed on the QB.

Because the league is totally pussified about protecting the QB now to the point of absurdity
but a win feels so great. I love that we won. There are still flaws and improvement needed but this was fun. A lot of these guys will be back next year so winning is a positive.
I also thought they played hard until the end which means they haven't quit on the coach. Enjoy this my friends. One game at a time. I have no illusions of a 9-7 record but a good, fun win. Maybe our first home win in 2018 comes soon?
Greg I am having deja-vu from the Rangers threads. I must be tired. : )
I also get the sense that you are not a fan of the word "culture". Just kidding around with you. I dont want to see you and chopperhatch go at it again.
in 2013 when 1-7 became 7-9. In the long run, those wins were utterly meaningless. And yes, I know they ended up with OBJ. My point is that there was no positive impact from that "winning culture".
No doubt. But imo, you cannot sustain winning without the right culture, the right mix of guys and inner team accountability. Im a big believer in culture. Now that doesnt mean DG made the right moves re this, but I do think it has to be developed by the coach and the leaders of the team.
nice return and a nice reception in traffic. Seemed to be playing with intensity. Not sure of his issues elsewhere but if it was lack of effort then he didn't exhibit that tonight. Maybe a light bulb is going on. We should be taking chances on guys like him. You never know.
by the time the Giants are a contender again. So, the culture talk is meaningless.
It is definitely meaningful. Good players sour quickly on teams with shitty locker rooms. Good players won't come to a team with a shitty locker room. Young players will not fear making errors in a shitty locker room. Good locker rooms drive players to excel and compete. Would you want to play for a team with malcontents?
No doubt. But imo, you cannot sustain winning without the right culture, the right mix of guys and inner team accountability. Im a big believer in culture. Now that doesnt mean DG made the right moves re this, but I do think it has to be developed by the coach and the leaders of the team.
Even if it's something you believe in, which is fine, you can have your beliefs, a winning culture comes from having the tools required to allow players to believe they can win games. This roster is outmanned and outgunned. When the 53 guys in that room believe they can compete, that's how culture generates. It's not some force that elevates bad rosters to contention.
It's easy to get seduced with acquiring talent at any cost. Ask the Browns. But getting a mega talent for one or two years before they stupid themselves off your team or out of the NFL is effectively not much different than picking shit players that aren't worth a second contract. It's unsustainable.
You can pick talented guys that aren't addicted to substances or getting arrested in the offseason. They're not mutually exclusive.

In Cleveland it was a knock on his work ethic, documented pretty clearly on Hard Knocks. They were accusing him of not running hard enough in practice.
He's made a few stops so I'm skeptical, but sometimes it takes desperate measures for the light to go on in some people.

I don't think anyone's advocating for picking dumb guys who are going to smoke or drink themselves to retirement. There's plenty of talent available at the top of the draft where you don't have to compromise talent for bad character.
Seems if Herbert does not come out is there a QB worth
taking top 5 ?? .. Play the season out were gonna get a great player where ever we pick If Bosa is there we would
likely take him or the Bama LT . Lord knows we need help .
I wouldn't mind taking O-line in the 2nd round either
Don't think Oliver is a bonafied pass rusher but this draft
has plenty of Defense . we have two 4ths can move up as well
into the 3rd . Young players need to win learn how to win and finish .
in 2013 when 1-7 became 7-9. In the long run, those wins were utterly meaningless. And yes, I know they ended up with OBJ. My point is that there was no positive impact from that "winning culture".
What about what happened down the stretch of 2006? That team was a wreck as the season moved along. Injuries mounting. Rumors of discontent. It was getting uglier by the minute but that team did not collapse. They battled. They won 2 games out of 6 and limped to 8-8 record. Lost the WC game. What about 1999? 7-9. Not much good in December but again, the team struggled but didnt fold up shop. Won 1-2 games out of the final 4-5-6 weeks. Didnt Look good. Didnt feel good either. But what emerged from those meaningless seasons?
I dont know how any giants fan can actually sit here and be comfortable with MORE losing. Christ on fucking crack, havent we lost enough? Have we not tanked enough here? We cant enjoy one fucking win here in god damned November? I hate you all.
Were gonna be lucky to win 2 more games so dont worry the tank will be just fine in the end. We win two in a row by crushing Tampa than reality hits. Probably. Unless this offense really stays hot. Not convinced but you never know.
RE: RE: I think Witten and whoever the other booth announcer was ...

Really people! Have we even been watching this team this season in the red zone? Really going to complain about when we score? Maybe we should just be happy we scored at all!
So this win does not bother me. But I understand why those of you who want Herbert are bummed. But in reality, Gruden is focused on Herbert and no way Giants were beating out the Raiders for the number one pick
Then why even watch? You cannot manipulate the draft through a full seasom unless you are Oakland. And what they are doing is a disgrace. We aren't guaranteed that anyone from even this year's touted qb class will be great to say nothing of next year. Nice to see a win and aittle vintage Eli
RE: I understand why some think losing is better (draft pick)
but a win feels so great. I love that we won. There are still flaws and improvement needed but this was fun. A lot of these guys will be back next year so winning is a positive.

...on almost every play. Stood his ground, didnt get bowled over or pushed back into the pocket like our previous RGs. Nice to see for a change. Hope it continues.
slot need to get a life. The coaches and players are trying to keep and earn their jobs. Theres more at stake than your sensitive fandom. Sure, Id love to openly tank and get a better draft position to increase the odds we get better quicker, but Im not going smash my keyboard in anger when I dont get what I want.
Enjoy watching these guys smile for a change, and try it yourselves.

+1 The O-line actually looked like a real O-line, although the run blocking leaves much to be desired. Yes I know it's the 9ers but the giants have made worse teams than that look like the 85 bears.
I keep reading here that Gruden is focused on Hebert - Is that really
In the long run, it probably hurts more than helps to have won the game.
That said - while it was going on, the juices were flowing for the first time in a while. I felt a sense of excitement. I knew it was under a shitty premise, but seeing it unfold in a way that put Eli in position to lead the game-winning drive after all that's been said and all of the focus that was on him to basically "win or else" - it was just so perfect. It was almost a microcosm of his career in one shot.
The line was better. They really did a much better job in pass pro. The running lanes were still tough to come by, but we had a better approach with Barkley I felt.
I'd like to see them start to work Coleman into the offense more opposite Beckham. He can run - he can help us stretch the field. He's limited but he does have some skill we can use.
Honestly, it just felt good to win again. Regardless of the long-term implications. As hard as I've been on Eli, I really loved watching him come through and turn back the clock like that for a night. The records kind of just got pushed aside for that time and it was exciting and enjoyable for me finally.
I'm actually sort of looking forward to the next game again for the first time in a while.
That said, both teams are pretty bad.
*SHOCK*
Yeahh... not really
We aint winning another this year
I agree. Just makes no sense.
Did you want them to win or not? If you did then perhaps enjoy the win
It feels great to win one.
Love the guy, but Eli isnt without blame in this. Because its been going on since TC was here. Coach and QB never seem to understand when the clock is no longer working against them and they can just let the clock bleed
We scrambled to beat a 3rd string scout team QB on a terrible team.
Hip....hip....we suck....
And could blow the top pick with this win.

Eli had more time tonight.....but the play calling was still bad....
Idiots on BSPN are just irritating with there bias and stupidity .. Anyone named Booger You deserve what you get .
Pass rush is non existent Any QB will look better than whet they are .. Feels good to win period same with the team
So....Ed Oliver?

The Faiders were never going to be out-sucked for the first pick. They're not winning another game and the Giants were going to win at least 1 or 2.

Exactly, no team is out tanking the Raiders, the Giants never were. My guess, they finish 4-12 or 5-11. Gruden is shamelessly tanking.
51 yard return and a few pretty decent returns. Only bad play was Rosas bad KO to open the 2nd half.
We're two weeks removed from them recognizing the need to sell and rebuild. Their 'core' hasn't been picked yet.
Agreed!!
I'm still wondering how the hell that was roughing the QB. Total & complete BS call
Amazing the amount of donks on this site who think building a winner in the NFL is like building a winner in the NBA.
There is no "young core group ". Most of these losers will be long gone when/if this team ever becomes a winner again.

Carter is gonna be a good player. One off-season working on his moves and he should be a stud.

What moves did they fail to make? DG got what he could considering what was out there within the confines of the cap.
The roster was trash. It takes time to completely retool the core of the team.

It's pure assumption. Nobody knows.
Still having difficulty in run blocking.
Really impressed with Carters play last night. He needs to start and play all the time. Bench Barwin.
I thought Grant Haley made some nice plays last night. He needs to play more in the last 7 games.
If Coleman works hard he maybe a good pickup as 3rd WR and kickoff Returner. We can only hope he decides to work hard to make himself a good player.
DL had a tough game last night in run and pass defense. We need to see improvement from Tomlinson and Hill.
Vernon looked disinterested during the game last night. So overpaid. Too bad we couldnt move him for a draft pick.
Eli had a good game last night as well as OBJ. The lack of arm strength on the deep ball to OBJ who was wide open was very telling.
A win is a win and very happy this morning. Slept slot better last night.
Go Giants!!!
