OL pass protection - thumbs up

dep026 : 11/12/2018 11:31 pm
Pulley and Brown got beat once for a sack. And Browns holding penalty was unnecessary.

But all in all. That was their best effort all year, especially Solder who shut me up for a week. His best game of the year.

Run blocking needs to much better. But Eli had a lot of time tonight and was able to get a couple scores.
Solder actually didn't F things up this week

a great job and the new kid did a awesome job.
Congrats oline

You did a decent job vs a bum unit, you closed the gap between yourselves and the 2nd worst oline the NFL has ever seen

Seriously, have you not been watching all year? That's what has been beating us all season, it's not like we are consistently getting crushed by overload blitzes.
I saw a graphic late in the fourth quarter
Hammer : 11/12/2018 11:36 pm : link
saying that the 49ers only blitzed once all game.

I sure didn't get the impression, but it is what it is.

I seem to recall that San Fran blitzed in the last couple of Giants drives to no effect.

Eh. It doesn't really matter. This season is a disaster.

Don't remember the cowboys game? They blitzed every play and got to Eli in .000001 seconds

But yeah most teams have been ok just sending for and getting to Eli in .001 seconds

And we have to keep in mind it was the Niners, not a team with a sensational rush..

Of course it has. My point was that I'd like to see the other team have to blitz to get home. An OL should be able to block four or five. We did it tonight, but haven't been able to do most of the year.

The 49ers had 7 sacks against the Raiders last week.

blitzing the Giants actually plays into their hands. They want to throw quick. Its when 7 and 8 guys are in coverage and their is still a rush that kills us.

Had a very quiet game which is good.

Thats because Eli could step up into the pocket because there was one.

The two keys to the game...
bw in dc : 11/13/2018 7:54 am : link
were indeed the oline and the +2 in turnovers. San Fran won almost all of the key stats outside of the that.

The bye week definitely seemed to help. There was certainly a lot more continuity. Now the question is if its sustainable.

Looking ahead to TB, if our defense is unable to create turnovers, then it is on them. TB leads the league in -19 turnover differential.
Blitz or not

I looked like Eli finally had time to throw. And whatta ya know? He looks a lot better when he ain't running for his life.
