Both teams were poorly coached and made a ton of mistakes.

SF ran the clock down when they got the ball back in the last two minutes of the half - burning the clock forced them to kick the FG on second down. Better clock management would have allowed them to run each play. The risk of giving the ball back to the awful Giants offense wasn't enough to do that.

Then the timeout in the final two minutes. Just dumb football all around.
