I just realized JPP is next week

Jim in Forest Hills : 11/13/2018 9:33 am
Hopefully this isn’t the game where he accrues 60% of his sacks.

Srsly though has anyone watched him play? Is he playing better, same, worse?
stats are certainly there
Greg from LI : 11/13/2018 9:34 am : link
Eight sacks. I haven't watched a single Tampa game, so I couldn't tell you how he looks.
8 sacks?
Doomster : 11/13/2018 9:45 am : link
That's one per game....you can get that, if you make one good effort, and take the rest of the game off.....we have seen his act for 7 years....

Solder, meet Mr. JPP.....this is the kind of game where JPP pads his stats against an average LT.....
Only if Eli could run the read option
dep026 : 11/13/2018 9:49 am : link
and watch JPP bite time and time again.
How is JPP REALLY playing...
BillKo : 11/13/2018 10:17 am : link
.....I ask because I watched him versus Pitt weeks ago on a MNF game and he looked the same player here. One move, and getting stunted at the LOS. He did have a sack that game, but it was a sack where Rothlisberger started to scramble up the middle and JPP was waiting for him.

JPP is a good player, not great. He hustles and give it 100%....but he never got back to his 2011 form.
Motivated ex player going against the team that traded him
widmerseyebrow : 11/13/2018 10:31 am : link
And a couple dogshit tackles. Should be a good time.
JPP vs Chad Wheeler
FStubbs : 11/13/2018 10:32 am : link
... hmm.
He's done well in the limited time that I've seen him
jcn56 : 11/13/2018 10:35 am : link
That the Bucs D is generally dogshit around him isn't helping him much.

The problem with JPP is his motor - if he could give you 85%, he'd be a HoFer. I don't know if it's injuries, his back, his desire - but he goes too many plays where he just contributes nothing.

Point taken. There was no place for him in a 3-4, so we had to trade him.
He's still a plus capable player
JonC : 11/13/2018 10:43 am : link
but you don't always get a well rounded effort from him.
He's also a good example
JonC : 11/13/2018 10:47 am : link
of where many tend to not understand what they're seeing on the field.

Its things like the second paragraph that uncalled for.. people just make accusations that player like JPP and Nicks and others are not performing because they don't try enough.. I seriously doubt you can be as good as JPP has been without giving 110%.. The dude won us a superbowl.. had a major back problem and blew out his hand but still came back to be the best defensive player we had that season..

He played over 95% of the snaps with no pass rushing help up the middle and horrible LB play last couple of seasons.. and still had to be a 2 way player who needed to contain and rush the passer.. thats a tall task for anyone..

Was he great the last couple of years? no.. but trust me he wasn't just collecting a pay check.. he put in all the effort he could..
He played hard
KWALL2 : 11/13/2018 12:05 pm : link
I just don't get the motor comments.

He would give up on his pass rush and look to knock down passes too often. That was an issue. But he never left the field. Played hurt. Was very good vs the run. And hustled down the field.

In TB, they love him. He's playing very good 2 way ball and doing it while hes banged up right now.

And I don't know how anybody saw him vs PIT and didn't think he kicked ass. He tossed them around. Hit Ben several times. 2 sacks but a lot of pressure. A few TFL. And a forced fumble that they recovered to get back into the game.

Its all about unreasonable expectations with JPP with some here. He was a very good player here and a guy who played hard. Made too much money? Maybe. But what did we do with that money?

We gave him away. Got Hill but also traded a 4th for the right to use overpay for Ogletree. We pissed away money on Omameh too. I'd rather have JPP right now. We would still suck but the team would be better.

Jon, I agree about not always getting full effort from JPP, but coming back to Met Life after being traded, one would assume you are going to get JPP's best.

He peaked as a player in year 2 and set expectations that he'd be that player for a while, and he was never that player again. That, and being an idiot who hampered his own career by blowing half his hand off.

KWALL2 : 11/13/2018 12:21 pm : link
Year 3 he was excellent again just the sack number wasn't there but his QB pressure % was better in year 3 then 2.

He had the back problem but I thought he got too heavy. He should have cut 10-15 lbs and played leaner. He's on par athletically with Chandler Jones. Jones is much better lighter. JPP would have been too.

But one thing that irks me is the hustle comments. On the field he played hard. Off the field he could have done more, cut the weight and maybe not blow your hand off.

I look at this way ... get all the negative shit out of the way while the Giants stink, clear the decks. When they're ascending again there will be less flotsam and jetsam from the Football Gods.

I hope.
He still takes a bunch of plays off
cjac : 11/13/2018 12:35 pm : link
but he's getting to the QB on the obvious passing downs. he's going to cause some problems this week for sure.

i honestly think getting traded was the best thing for him, he certainly seems more motivated
I don't think he takes plays off/doesn't hustle...
BillKo : 11/13/2018 12:59 pm : link
....he never developed a 2nd move and gets stood up at the LOS way too much IMO. Seemed to be he relied purely on strength and a bull rush to get to the QB and that's not going to work.

He takes plays off
JonC : 11/13/2018 1:05 pm : link
and he gives up quickly when a move doesn't work on the rush.
Gotta hand it to JPP
FranknWeezer : 11/13/2018 1:09 pm : link
His numbers have exploded since he left the NYG.
