What was with that crappy field condition last night?

jcn56 : 11/13/2018 10:42 am
If there was discussion leading up to the game, I must have missed it. Was there a reason nobody could hold their footing on the turf last night?

Reminded me of that season they tried to do natural grass at Giants Stadium before they switched to Field Turf.

I was in my car for the first half. They said due to a warm afternoon turning into a cooler night, the turf built up condensation.

I loved how, after Saquon slipped the second time, Witten said, 'Well, it's late at night.'

It was 5:30 PM PST. That's not 'late at night'.

Park was built with the field below sea level. What's the elevation regarding sea level at this stadium?
they actually had the grass for three seasons at Giants Stadium

Should have only been one once they saw how badly it played, but it was three

"Dallas" time...you can take Whitten out of Dallas, but you can't take Dallas out of Whitten....

Field conditions that we saw last night should never happen. the Niners organization should be embarassed
It didn't look like he slipped,
BigBlue in Keys : 11/13/2018 10:50 am : link
It looked like a big piece of turf came up. It didn't seem like the grass was wet necessarily, just that it was coming up in chunks everywhere. Can't recall seeing the 49ers guys sliding as much though.
I'm surprised the NFL was OK with it
jcn56 : 11/13/2018 10:51 am : link
Could you imagine the resulting shitstorm if someone had been injured because of that slop?

As an aside - when Mullen hit the turf with his knee while trying to scramble, shouldn't he have been considered down? Didn't we get spared a fumble sometime back because Cruz touched his knee down while running (untouched) and he fumbled the ball? My son mentioned the knee last night, but I didn't think much of it until I remembered that Cruz play.

In college, yes, in the NFL you must be touched to be down.

Not true - in the NFL, you can give yourself up. Here's a link to the Cruz play, which was debated at the time.

If the field was slick
BigBlue in Keys : 11/13/2018 10:59 am : link
wouldn't it make sense to put on sneakers, not longer cleats. It's worked for the Giants before :)

Seriously though I got nervous seeing Barkley putting on the longer spikes. With the power he plants and pivots with I had bad visions of some non contact injury.

Anyone who remembers those old 49ers games, esp playoff games, probably didn't think anything of the poor turf last night...........

Every game out there in the 80s seemed to be played on overcast, wet days.
It's Witten goddammit

That was the first thing I noticed when they did the flyover shot of the field when advertising for the Rams/Chiefs matchup. That field looked like garbage!

The NFL should be ashamed if they continue to hold it there. The field in Mexico looks like a vacant lot between row homes in Detroit. The only thing missing is an abandoned refrigerator and a filthy mattress.
No bueno

If Monday nights game is played in Mexico City, a number of Rams and Chiefs players are now strongly considering not playing in that game on that messy surface, per sources. Its not fair to risk our health, one prominent player said today.
And they'd be completely right to do so
Greg from LI : 11/13/2018 3:37 pm : link
Their bodies are their meal tickets. Expecting them to risk them on that ridiculous field for the sake of the NFL's international expansion fever dreams is appalling.
I was at the game

There were chunks of turf all over the place. It is hard to compare Barkley's 3 stumbles to the 49er runners. They depend more on quickness getting thru the hole while barkley uses his powerful thighs to change direction.

Did I see them change barkley's cleats in the third quarter right on the field?

Did anyone else see this?
