KC Chiefs - LA Rams next Monday Night

dep026 : 11/13/2018 10:45 am
In Mexico City where the field looks like something from an over 30s flag football field.

Seriously, the NFL is the leader of fucking up good things. Move it back to LA. Promise them a preseason game next year and lets move on.
Crap field - ( New Window )

do you get kickbacks from ESPN?
Yeah, that sounds like a plan

'Hey Mexico? Remember that primetime, midseason matchup between two of the better teams in the league? Well, cancel that - we'll give you the third 49ers/Raiders preseason game instead.'

Should go over great.
Ahh, it's only the best game

on the entire regular season schedule.
They were pushing it all night.
Gman11 : 11/13/2018 10:55 am : link
I get it. It's two very good teams. But, the fact that it's in Mexico City? Why would the TV viewer give a rats ass? The field looks the same whether it's in KC, LA, Mexico or Siberia (well maybe not Siberia).
Now that looks like a football field!
Rico : 11/13/2018 10:56 am : link
Football was meant to be played in sloppy conditions. Today's fields are too perfect. I actually like this, and I'm sure John Madden would approve!

It's a promotional gimmick for them to increase viewership. That's kind of their job.

As for the field looking the same - the important thing to remember here is neutral field, no home field advantage. That's so long as the field condition isn't as shitty as last night's game.
Stop baby-ing football players

Play the game in Mexico. Come on

If the game was the Raiders/49ers would you watch the game just because they're playing in Mexico? I don't see how the game venue increases tv viewership. It will be watched because they are the two top teams in the league right now.

Would the Super Bowl have more viewers if they played it in a foreign country?

The field is a mess. No way an NFL team should be playing on that shit.

I think they are trying to build a mexican fan base.

I'm sure more mexicans will tune in than a normal MNF
I found it quite funny
Defense56 : 11/13/2018 11:31 am : link
that the broadcast was playing up the fact the game was being played in Mexico as some sort of additional incentive for fans to watch. I don't think the fans give two shits about where the game is played other than the fact that one of the teams is getting jobbed out of home field advantage. Mexic. Pffft.
I've been watching

less football the last two years and its jarring to hear how bad these announcers are. That should be an awesome game, but I'm not looking forward to the audio clown show.

Would definitely pay something for a crowd noise only feed.
Sucks for the Rams to

Lose a home game.

KC should be favored in this one
$$$$$
joeinpa : 11/13/2018 11:54 am : link
That a what NFL cares about. When trying to make sense of some if their decision ll, start there

Rams Chiefs, nice game. Not as good as Giants 49ers, but nice game.

I vote for not having games in countries that you cant run for elected office without being assassinated.

Now, that should actually be a good game.

From Giants/9ers to Rams/Chiefs in a matter of one week.

Precisely - they figure the promotion will draw in more casual viewers of football or more Hispanic viewers. They're not repeating this over and over for my benefit, I'm already watching them regardless of location.

I'm not a fan of football played abroad either - I think the added travel just monkeys with the teams, degrading the quality of the game. But NFL owners are all billionaires who enjoy making more money year over year, which means they have to turn to shit like this to make it happen.
Rather then the field, I'd be more concerned....

above sea level, according to Google Search. That is much more likely to affect 'playing conditions' than the turf; ~ 2000' higher than Mile High in Denver.

I used to do a ton of work in Ciudad de Mèxico, and it gets to you. I'll be curious to know if either Chief or Rams decide to travel a few days early, if they arrange practice venues. A few days adjustment helps.
And it's moved

The NFL has played on worst fields
JohnF : 11/13/2018 7:09 pm : link
Granted, this was back in 1932, when the NFL Championship between the Chicago Bears and the Portsmouth Spartans (who later became the Detroit Lions) was forced by a blizzard to be played inside of old Chicago Stadium (hockey fans will remember that building!)

Here's what the field looked like (and this link explains what happened that day:)

From the article linked:

Quote:
The players who did play before a near-capacity crowd of 11,198 fans dug into the 6-inch layer of dirt and tanbark that covered the arena’s cement floor and had been used the previous two nights by a circus sponsored by the Salvation Army. Unfortunately, the performing elephants left behind more than just memories, and the manure odor caused at least one Chicago player to get sick on the field.

Yep, elephant manure and straw.
Here's a closer look at that field

Who gives a shit how Mexico feels? Want the NFL? Dont do dumb shit to fuck up the playing surface a week before the game.

I'm going to guess - the marketing people responsible for the NFL's money making machine? The people who know a shitload more than you or I do? They give a shit, obviously, otherwise we wouldn't be watching games from London, Mexico or anywhere else.
How is it fair to move the game to LA
Matt M. : 11/13/2018 8:55 pm : link
essentially making this a Rams home game? And how bad is the condition of the filed really? Who cares what it looks like? It really can't be much worse than the condition of the field last night.

Yea I guess. But the game is still getting played. Is the revenue differential from playing the game there vs in LA that much different? If this happened in Europe I could see it being a much bigger deal because of the potential for fans from other countries being shut out and losing out on those fan bases
